CBS Alluded To An Un-Impeachable Source: Definitely Not George Conn. Who Was It CBS?

Posted on 09/21/2004 4:01:05 AM PDT by notkerry

Burkett has now disclosed he had previously falsely identified the source of the forged documents as a former Texas National Guard friend, George Conn. CBS had claimed it had an unimpeachable source who clearly could not of been Burkett. If it was George Conn, CBS again has shown its utter failure of investigating reporting and/or its bias.

George Conn denied to the Boston Globe in February 0f 2004 that Burkett's stories were true. CBS needs to name their un-impeachable source!

This DU's rant is what is wrong with the democrats politics today. Most dem's aren't lunatics they just have a different point of view. Guys like this is why you see W's numbers up. They don't want to be associated with these off-the-wall morons who see a new conspiracy behind every negative screw up in their campaign. That's the biggest problem I see with thier philosiphy. It's never their own fault it has to be ours(Republicans)!

The only repair for this is to rescind the CBS networks FCC broadcast license for one year as a warning to other "news" networks that collusion and patent dishonesty is not protected freedom of speech.

Also, what's up with Burkett saying he burned, in the Kinko's parking lot, the copies of the documents given to him by Lucy Rameriz? Not believable.

Are you sure he didn't say Lucy Ricardo.

I just had a thought. Help me out here a little.

Doesn't Burkett sell bulls? http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1217752/posts

So wouldn't it make perfect sense for him to go to a cattle show? So, doesn't it appear that some one that asked to meet him at a Houston cattle show knew him?

Just sort of odd if a total stranger called me, after seeing me on tv the night before, he/she would know my interests.

So your idea is that Mystery Person just sees Burkett on TV - at no time in this TV interview is mentioned Burkett's interest in bulls. Surprising then, that Mystery Person comes up with such a slick spy-perfect way of meeting Burkett at cattle show.

Yes, good thought.

If the source is "unimpeachable" it can only refer to one individual ... the one who couldn't be impeached.

Continue to let c-BS know that they are ethically challenged by consorting with the Kerry campaign and until they make it right by firing Dan Blather and Mary Mapes you will boycott their advertisers. The depth of the lies, deceit and Dan Blather's apology (for getting caught, not to the President or Killian's family or others hurt by his lies) goes too deep for c-BS to get off the hook on this one. Let the advertisers know how you feel. c-BS won't move on political pressure but money talks.

Am I missing something here? CBS accepted Burkett's word on the "original" source of the documents? They then failed to interview the alleged original source, but accepted Burkett's story because Burkette said he got them from a good source? That doesn't pass the laugh test. Burkett was known to be "unstable" and why would you fail to go to the "real" source?

It was the Kerry Campaign staff via the Democrat National Committee.

I like your thought if it is the slickmeister to whom you are referring. But I must point out that the slickmeister was impeached, but not convicted.

1. Rather's "unimpeachable source" could not have been Burkett, because Burkett's credibility problem and grudge against Bush were well known.

2. It probably wasn't Cleland either. Although Cleland is highly placed, Cleland himself would not have been in a position to know what Killian believed.

3. Therefore it seems clear that CBS is still covering up something very important about this story.

4. In addition, its likely the Democrats are also concealing their own activities vis-a-vis this matter. They probably had low-level investigators working this story, and these people were probably in contact with CBS. The "unimpeachable source" was probably contacted by these people.

5. IMHO, Burketts current story about the anonymous phone call sounds like complete BS. CBS's apparent willingness not to press Burkett on this or release any additional details about what CBS knew and when CBS knew it seems also to show that CBS is still covering up important informtation about this case.

"There is no "Lucy Ramirez". Burkett invented her to try to escape forgery charges"

Right. But Burkett on his own could not have sold this story to CBS. Burkett must have had help. Rather as much as confirmed this by saying he had an "unimpeachable source" backing up Burkett.

So CBS still has to be hiding their second source.

You're absolutely right, and I knew that. But it's not the validity of the facts so much as the point of the accusation that counts. I learned that from Dan Rather!

In identifying Burkett as a member of the TANG Rather was lying right out of the box the other day.

"Burkett also says that, before the encounter with Scribner, he was standing with a group of Guard officers, and heard a ranking officer order Scribner to review the Bush file and remove any documents that might be embarrassing to the then-governor."

Oh yeah, I'm sure this would have been said with earshot of a group of people. NOT!! So who are all these Guard officers Bill? Why haven't they come forward to support your claims?

Burkett's story has many flaws, but to me, the fatal one is that he claims, with other National Guard officers also present, to have overheard an order to sanitize Bush's file. No one with even an elementary level of sense would give such an illegal order with witnesses present.

Exactly!

I also find it highly unlikely that someone having just stolen files to scrub clean the TANG records of GWB, would have thrown them in the trash can in the very office they just stole them from.
