Rush was WRONG !!
Open Secrets, EIB Institute for Advanced Concervative Studies ^ | Sept. 21, 2004 | Broker

Posted on 09/21/2004 5:13:15 AM PDT by Broker

On his Monday radio show, Rush reviewed political contributions and erroneously credited Corporate and Institutional political contributions to the Kerry Campaign. A more critical reivew of his source notes these funds originate from employee PACs. Corporate contributions to campaigns are illegal.

Needless to say, Rush Limbaugh's comments caused a tidal wave of discontent from his incorrect attribution. The accused heard rage from their investors and clients. In fact "Open Secrets" records show some these same PACs contributed more to Bush than Kerry!

It appears that in this case, Rush Limbaugh is half right and half wrong!

The trick is just about everybody knows that employee PACs do reflect the interests of the management class at the company, if not the company itself.

I looked at your web site. It does not disclose like data for the two candidates. All I can say from the data you rely on is that it is comparing apples to oranges.

I don't know who the Center for Responsive Politics is, but I would not be suprised if it is another front for the Democrat Party.

Employee PACs are comparable to employee contributions to United Way. UNited Way uses their considerable leverage with corporate executives to coerce employees to contribute, even though the employee may disagree with, or are likely ignorant of, United Way's extreme left leaning.

I didn't hear the comments myself, but my sister heard them and mentioned it to me. Apparently he said something about MSFT contributing approximately $250k to the Kerry camp pain. The truth is MSFT employees have contributed that amount and they have contributed a similar amount to the Bush campaign. The people who run the company PAC are almost exclusive Repuplican. If you walk through that area of the comapny, you might think you entered Bush/Cheney HQ. The top 3 execs have ONLY contributed to the Bush capmpaign. These people aren't stupid. They remember quite vividly what happened under the Clinton administration.

HOW TO READ THIS CHART: This chart lists the top donors to this candidate during the 2004 election cycle. The organizations themselves did not donate, rather the money came from the organization's PAC, its individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals' immediate families. Organization totals include subsidiaries and affiliates.

Because of contribution limits, organizations that bundle together many individual contributions are often among the top donors to presidential candidates. These contributions can come from the organization's members or employees (and their families). The organization may support one candidate, or hedge its bets by supporting multiple candidates. Groups with national networks of donors - like EMILY's List and Club for Growth - make for particularly big bundlers.

If Rush is incorrect, this will be the very FIRST thing he talks about on todays show. Rush has NEVER been one to try and cover up an error he has made.

This is one of the pleasant distinctions between Rush and the REST of the major media (read: The New York Times, Washington Post, and lets not forget CBS!!!!). When it comes to corrections about the facts, RUSH puts them up front and center, for all to hear. Unlike papers that bury corrections in 4 point type at the bottom of page 32, or networks that simply stonewall and accuse others of lying!

Rush leads when the topic is clarity and truthfulness of information.

I worked for a "major financial institution" and paid into a PAC and the money went to support candidates on both sides...no business is going to draw a line on who they support in case the other guy gets elected. I think they support the right more then the left in votes though...they're not stupid!

I didn't have a problem with it and it was my money so why should anyone else care?

Those of us who have listened to Rush for a long time know that Rush will sometimes throw his listeners a curve ball. This "erroneous" statement could be a "spoof" on the Rathergate story and Rush will see if his listeners are paying attention. If it turns out that Rush was mistaken, he will, as he has always done in the past, correct it with an apology. Rush has class. Rather does not.
