In an interview Monday evening, a repentant Rather conceded it had been a mistake to broadcast the documents. But even though he could not vouch for their authenticity, he said he still did not believe that they were fakes.
"Do I think they're forged? No," Rather said.
"But it's not good enough to use the documents on the air if we can't vouch for them, and we can't vouch for them."
What kind of reporter would I be if I put something on the air in which I believed, and as soon as it's attacked and under pressure, you run, you fold, you fade, you side-wind? That's not the kind of person I am, and it's not the kind of reporter I am."

Every time I think of Dan Rather now, that little five note organ melody from "Close Encounters" runs through my head.
Dan has a point. The paper is real. The ink is real. You can touch them. They have mass. How can they be fakes?
It depends on your definition of "real". Dan's got the same perception-vs-reality problem as Bill Clinton, who didn't think oral sex was sex and didn't think he and Monica were alone.
Bill Kristol said on Fox this morning that Rather's rhetoric sounds like something out of the old Soviet Union. This goes one step further. Captain Dan is living in a world of denial. Agreed, Rather is psychotic and the psychosis is called, liberalism.
I'm Dan Rather and it is impossible that I could ever be wrong! And if I am, then it's not me that needs correcting, it is reality that should bend to my will.

Once again, I believe that there is more to this than meets the eye. The DNC did this for a reason. As inept as we believe them to be, they put Clinton in office, twice. Something is up and it almost seems that they are leading the Pubs down a path. To where I cannot be sure, but they know something which will climax(always knew I could get this word in without referring to sex) with the October suprise.
My bet? Terayzah has a breakdown and Kerry will need to tend to her. HILLARY TO THE GREEN ROOM PLEASE!!

Let me see now. If they can't be proved to be authentic it means they are either forgeries or legitimate documents. There is no in between! So if Rather does not think they are forged then by default he personally still believes they are legitimate. He is making a total idiot of himself because he has no other choice except to insist they are real because he must continue to keep the pubic believing that he was duped. Or maybe he is delusional and he really does the documents are legit in which case he needs medication.

Usually a corporation of even modest size makes an effort to identify employees with diminished capacity and puts them into some employee assistance program or terminates them before they do something dangerous, like get themselves on the news.
