NEW YORK — CBS has appointed former U.S. Attorney General Dick Thornburgh and former Associated Press chief executive Lou Boccardi to investigate the National Guard documents story that has caught the news network by storm. The two-person review panel will begin its work this week and will have full access and complete cooperation from CBS News and CBS, as well as all of the resources necessary, CBS said in a statement Wednesday. The panel will report its findings to CBS News and CBS. The findings also will be made public, according to the network. Meanwhile, a veteran CBS News producer may be taking the fall for the news network at the center of the "memogate" controversy regarding President Bush's Texas Air National Guard service.

"You start tying these connections together … I said I'm so scared because I know what's going on with my party," Democratic strategist Pat Caddell told FOX News. "The fact is, [Burkett] did not approach CBS, CBS approached him looking for the documents, which means someone tipped CBS off … which could be a violation of the law."

This is a felony. Like Berger, the Democrats write their own rules on-the-fly.
Berger and Rather belong in jail, but this administration
coddles and encourages domestic terrorists.

-snip-
Reporters could not justify pursuing the Bush “AWOL” story by citing any actual proof of wrongdoing, any relevance to Bush’s role as President, any sign that his conduct in 1972-73 was especially uncommon, or any clamoring from voters to get to the bottom of the story. The only impetus was DNC boss Terry McAuliffe’s wish to contrast “John Kerry, a war hero with a chest full of medals” with “George Bush, a man who was AWOL in the Alabama National Guard.”

-snip-

On February 12, the CBS Evening News promoted a conspiracy theory floated by retired National Guard officer Bill Burkett, who claimed he overheard a 1997 order to purge Bush’s records. The Boston Globe reported the next day that Burkett’s back-up, George Conn, totally disagreed with his friend’s version of what happened, but the Evening News never told viewers about that crucial detail.

When a liberal Democrat faces a personal charge, the national media find ways to avoid discussing it in public.

This whole memogate thing is just a tiny tip of a huge iceberg - but it's beginning to shrink.

Maybe just maybe, we will find out how & when CBS became a 527 for the JFKerry campaign.

Wasn't Richard Clarke the first introduction? The 9/11 Commission asked for a ninety day extension last January, they got 60. Richard Clarke's book was not to be release in that time frame, but somehow managed to get to the presses 30 days early, just in time for "60 Minutes" to advertise and Richard Clarke became the star of the Soviet Style 9/ll Commission.

Maybe we could send Judge Thornburg some helpful hints in what questions to ask...

One question for Mr. Thornburg is "Mr. Thornburg, Judge, when you upset when another Judge in his Court forced you to pay back the $170K you had owed to Mr. Karl Rove for work he performed at your request on your behalf?"

former Associated Press chief executive Lou Boccardi ?

Isn't this a little like Jamie Gorelick being on the 911 commission ?

Sorry you must be more clear, calling me blind and dumb without telling me what I am dumb and blind is not helpful.

YOu have a point spell it out.

The story is not about Thronburg it is about how the JFKerry Campaign and CBS joined together using FORGED documents to respond to the Swift Boats Vets.

Here's ONE clue, Danny Rather, one only:

Karl Rove & Co. v. Thornburgh, 39 F.3d 1273 (5th Cir.1994)
