Mandatory Draft Bill

Posted on 09/24/2004 3:37:18 PM PDT by Primetimedonna

Has anyone else received an e-mail regarding a Mandatory Draft bill for Ages 18-26? I received a panicky e-mail from my niece saying that there is Pending Legislation in the House & Senate S89 & HR163 which are planned to begin in Spring 2005.

Anything to this? Can anyone give me info to debunk it if it's a myth?

Help!!

Charlie Rangel (D-NY) and other democrats have sponsored such a bill... but NOT the Republicans as Kerry has declared.

Odds of passage are zero.

And welcome... a good first post!

Yes, Democrat Charles Rangel (house) and Democrat John Conyers (Senate) have introduced 163 for a renewal of the draft.

Tell her that a draft is apparently a part of John Kerry's program.

Tell her not to worry because Pres. Bush and the Republican Party are solidly OPPOSED to a draft.

Charlie Rangel, a big DEM, is sponsoring some draft legislation but I don't know the details and don't think it has a prayer of passing.

Democrats Rangel, seconded by Mc Dermott, introduced a bill. 46 Democrats are for it, no republican. That's where it stands as of now.
Rangel has been advocating a draft for quite some time, since it would be less discriminatory. He says if we have a draft everyone would have to serve, not only the disenfranchised.

A load of crap, if you ask me.

> Anything to this?

Did you try using [ draft ] in a search here?
We've been getting dozens of articles a day,
to which I often reply with:
______________________________

Joseph Goebbels would be proud. We have here a case of the
"Reverse Big Lie"

Not only is the "secret Bush draft" a lie,
the truth is a secret Kerry-Edwards draft.

The Kerry camp coordinators have fired up a series of scare
ads on the draft. As is usual for "progressives", accusing
their opponents of what they themselves are doing.

Kerry has accused Bush of having a secret draft plan, based
on no evidence at all. Kerry himself has been trying to
cover up his own statements. What would a President
Kerry be likely to do?

Before getting to the details, it's important to note that
this issue is not primarily about a military draft. It's
about Universal National Service (UNS). Stealing two years
from every life, then 3, and heck, why stop there ...

And National Service is less about service than about
indoctrinating the slaves by controlling the agenda of
the approved forms of service.

But make no mistake about it, if Kerry is elected, they'll
also need a draft to meet military manpower requirements,
because voluntary enlistments and re-enlistments will drop
to near zero. The National Guard is already seeing signs
that people are waiting to see who will be the next
President.

Furthermore, it will be very dangerous to be in a Kerry
military. Apart from more Mogudishu disasters, expect
the troops to be exposed to random war crimes tribunals.

The Bush Administration has done zero to move toward a
draft and does not support it.

The only bills submitted are by Democrats.
http://www.congress.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d108:HR00163:
http://www.congress.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d108:SN00089:
One of them, HR 163 (aka SB 89), bears the title:
"Universal National Service Act of 2003"
it includes the provision:
"...or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the
national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes."

... and for other purposes ...

Completely undefined and arbitrary purposes. Involuntary
servitude, i.e. slavery, doing whatever bidding the
ruling class prescribes. Fear the ruling class that
advocates mandatory national service.

Bush has said he'd veto HR 163.
Kerry has said exactly nothing about it.

Although Kerry and Edwards are on the campaign trail
promising to oppose a "draft", they in fact support
UNS, but are hiding that. And even if they were to
oppose UNS, you already know what a Kerry promise
or position is worth.

Where have they been on this issue?

Kerry has removed pages, formerly at:
http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/natservice and
http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/100days/communityservice_high.html
A copy of the latter was saved from the memory hole here:
http://www.mcgath.com/kerryslavery.html

"As President, John Kerry will ensure that every
high school student in America does community
service as a requirement for graduation. . . ."

The current K+E National Service is more watered down:
http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/national_service/
Apparently, the older position was too honest.

And Edwards? Go see:
http://www.senate.gov/~edwards/issues/educ/service.html

Under the Kerry plan, of course, we can expect
exemptions for the children of rich politicians.

The Selective Service System is already in place, and
could be reactivated in the event of some unforseen
emergency (Canada threatens to invade us :-). If Kerry
is defeated, the SSS, unneeded since Vietnam, is most
likely to remain right where it is today - dormant.

> This scare is getting to people on the college campus.
> It has to be responded to, not minimized and disregarded.

So share what I've written with them. Have them read
the legislation and check out the sponsors. Tell them
to do their own research on what Bush people have said,
and what Kerry & Co. have historically advocated. Tell
them to look at which faction is more likely to stick by
their historical positions.

Someone is lying. The only question is who.

Kerry is leading the naive into a trap. He's opened
a "hide out from the draft" building and invited the
kids to come in.

After it's too late, the sign will be pulled off to
reveal a new sign:
Universal National Service Processing Center

DRAFT FEAR

My daughter is in a VERY LIBERAL art school, and this is the new college campus "buzz" going around to misinform college kids - they ALL think Bush/Cheney/Karl Rove/John Ashcroft el al are going to institute a mandatory draft.

My daughter, a conservative, and several of her conservative friends, are working hard to counter-act this Kerry BS campaign. I email her anything I can find on the subject and she emails it on to her campus friends and friends at other schools too!!

If your niece is of voting age and in touch with other kids that are being taken in by this malarkey, by all means, help her get the word out that the Bush "mandatory draft" re-instatement is PURE B.S.!!

The Democrats think the public is too stupid to know the difference between a Republican sponsoring a bill and a Democrat. They think any awful bill will reflect on Bush because he's the president, and will hurt him in the election. The Republicans are NOT pushing for passage. However, you and your worried friends should also know this: I, a 34-year-old mother of 1 who recently saw a God-awful beheading video of an American in Iraq, and many others like me, will be HAPPY to go in your place, should there ever be the need for a draft to fight terrorism in Iraq or anywhere else in the world. My email is listed above.

Draft Fears Fueled by Inaccurate E-mails
A scare story spreads electronically, but it gets facts wrong.
June 15, 2004
http://www.factcheck.org/printerFriendly.aspx?docid=200
Modified:June 15, 2004
Summary
Several FactCheck subscribers have asked about an e-mailed rumor that is causing a lot of anxiety. It claims that steps are being taken to resume military conscription next year. But the message abounds with misinformation and half-truths. And some experts say conscription is the last thing the military wants or needs, despite being stretched thin in Iraq.
Analysis

We can't say whether this one is deliberate misinformation or just sloppy reporting, but it sure is generating a lot of needless anxiety. It amounts to another "lying e-mail" of the kind we've warned about before (check the links to "related articles" at the end of this one.)

The bill to re-instate the draft is being sponsored by two democrat congressmen, McDermont and Rangel.

So yes, if Kerry and the dems win, the draft will be re-instated. Charlie's bitch is that rich Whites needs to fight the war, not poor Blacks. Rangel claims too many Blacks are enlisting and dying rather than Whites, and he wants to stop them from doing so.

It is a lie, but lies and Dems are as alike as the moon shining at night.
