Bust of Darth Vader on north facade of National Cathedral (DC) [NOT humor]
National Cathedral via Kriston at grammarpolice.net blog ^ | September 25, 2004

In fact, Darth Vader is in the premises. There's a grotesque of his bust on the north façade. Apparently the Cathedral's planners weren't satisfied with a hodge-podge building comprising various ill-applied historic European traditions—what it really needed was a contest for children to design a few pop elements. Much as I respect Darth Vader—I cherish the Dark Lord of the Sith more than I do most other Lords out there—I'd call this an aesthetic crime on par with the questionable establishment-clause propriety of the whole affair.

I already sensed his presence there.

It is, after all is said and done, just a pile of rock. Besides the thing belongs to a bunch of Episcopaleans or their friends, so I suppose they can decorate it however they wish.

My own church would not have spent so much money on the myriad of crosses you find in the place.

Darth Vader (and the stormtroopers) originally were George Lucas's Nazis of the future, thus the German WW2 soldier helmet resemblance for Darth Vader's helmet.

Maybe this points to some kind of Freemason/Knights Templar/Illuminati/Ultima Thule/New Schwabenland/UFOs/gray aliens/New World Order agenda.

I enjoy a competition to have something displayed as much as the next guy, but this seems kind of stupid. The other "winning" ideas weren't so great either.

Just Vader? Always two there are. A master and an apprentice.

Actually, Darth's helmet and mask was modeled after Japanese helmet designs from the Waring States period. That makes sense when you learn "Star Wars" was inspired by Kurosawa's "The Hidden Fortress".

Everything points to some kind of Freemason/Knights Templar/Illuminati/Ultima Thule/New Schwabenland/UFOs/gray aliens/New World Order agenda.

BFD, like the gargoyles of 1200 AD weren't just as made up.

It is a modern building, what is wrong with modern gargoyles?

"establishment clause propriety"

What is called the National Cathedral is an Episcopal church. Any group can name its building the "National Cathedral".
