Moonves:'We Are Risk-Taking. When You Extend Yourself, it Sometimes Becomes Controversy.'

# NEW YORK, Sept. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- CBS President Leslie Moonves vehemently argues that there are no common threads among the string of controversies that have piled up at the network-including Nipplegate at the Super Bowl and "The Reagans" movie, according to a report in the current issue of Newsweek. And he proudly notes the network's lead among broadcasters, with top-rated shows like "CSI" and "Survivor." "We are risk-taking," Moonves tells Newsweek. "When you extend yourself, it sometimes becomes controversy."(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20040926/NYSU004 )

He emphasized that the current "60 Minutes" crisis is profoundly different from other episodes. "Clearly errors were made," Moonves says. "But that doesn't reflect the history or integrity of CBS News."

But, as Senior Writer Johnnie L. Roberts reports in the October 4 issue of Newsweek (on newsstands Monday, September 27), critics and rival executives have other theories. They blame arrogance and flaws in the corporate DNA. "There's been this series of bungles that reflect a kind of corporate culture where haste and thoughtlessness prevails," says Jeff Chester, a leading opponent of media consolidation.

Yeah! The biggest risk they took was keeping a bitter, senile old man at their newsdesk and not paying attention to what he did.

You know, I can just now visualize a yellow, soft-cover book titled: "CBS: Running a Television Network for Dummies."

Clearly BIAS is being made at CBS and it certainly DOES reflect the history of Dan Rather and Mary Mapes!

CBS is the antithesis of integrity!

I'm not sure that CBS is any more liberal than the other networks. They just have a worse case of hubris and stupidity.

There are subtle ways of slanting the news. The problem with CBS and most of the other liberal media outlets is that they've gotten too angry at losing to Bush to hide their bias.

Les Moonves pulls his head out of Howard Stern's butt to speak.

And from what he says, it would appear he got a mouth full while his head was up there.

Thoughtlessness? That would lead to a random ser5ies of incidents.

When 100% of your "risk-taking" supports the Denmocrat agenda, there is no "thoughtlessness" involved, rather, it is obviously thought out carefully.

"Clearly errors were made,"... Clearly your publishing company has purposely broadcast lies for many years - for the 'common good' of the lesser masses who just (unfortunately for you) happen to have the right to vote. And who now (unfortunately for you) have learned to get truthful news over the internet.

And about Viacom removing the boos that rained down on hilaryclinton at the 9/11 rally?

Nope, nosireebob, no agenda at all, just a bit of risk taking.

Well, we just happened to notice.

However, Moonves does know the the importance of making money and getting good PR for Viacom. Why do you think he canned showing The Reagans on CBS and moved it to Showtime? I expect Moonves to do something soon regards to the future of Dan Rather and Mary Mapes because CBS affiliates are complaining already en masse.

Risktaking is not what anyone needs in news. It's a long, arduous process to get the truth. Bot to fly by the seat of your pants like CBS does.

It's good to extend yourself, but why does SeeBS always extend itself to the left?
