Biden Says Assured Allawi of Support if Kerry Wins

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A leading Democratic senator said on Sunday he assured interim Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi that U.S. support for him would continue if John Kerry (news - web sites) were elected president.

Allawi, who paid a high-profile visit to the White House last week, responded: "Thank you, and I know it," said Sen. Joseph Biden (news, bio, voting record), the ranking Democrat on the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Biden and other senators met with Allawi, who addressed Congress and the U.N. General Assembly during his trip.

In an interview on "Fox News Sunday," Biden angrily disputed assertions by the administration that Kerry's criticism of Bush policy in Iraq (news - web sites) meant he would abandon the effort.

"I personally was authorized by Kerry in front of all my colleagues to say the first thing in a private meeting. I said, 'Mr. President, you know me.' And he said, 'Yes, I do.' I said, 'I guarantee you that John Kerry as president -- you will continue to have the full support of the United States of America in order to be able to establish a representative republic.' He said, 'Thank you, and I know it."'

At the White House on Thursday, President Bush (news - web sites) said he and Allawi would "stay the course" in Iraq.

Biden also had the unmitigated gall to accuse Bush of being inconsistant. After Kerry, who can even say that with a straight face? Biden, I guess.

"I personally was authorized by Kerry in front of all my colleagues to say the first thing in a private meeting."

Is Effin' Kerry too big - or too small to bring himself to say those things?

The hair plugs have grown into and are affecting Biden's brain. Or was he always an ***hole and it wasn't quite as noticeable as now?

In this interview Biden said Kerry has always supported the war in Iraq. Oh really? Kerry told David Letterman just this week that he would not have gone to war. Of course, this was the same Joe Hairplug that said "no one in the Kerry campaign is comparing Iraq to Vietnam." And that was two days after Holbrooke and Hagel (who is no doubt supporting Kerry) made the Vietnam references on Fox News Sunday.

Biden's lies are so easily provable, makes ya wonder what this guy is smoking.

All the free Iraqis have to worry about if Kerry wins is written in the history books - called "the Killing Fields of Cambodia" and "the boat people of Vietnam".

Really, after about 30 years in politics, those are his greatest achievments.

The answer is always the ***hole. Joe Biden is probably the dumbest member of the Senate. Next to him a box of rocks is Steven Hawking.

Has anyone else noticed that Biden says he called Allawi "Mr. President"?

When it should have been "Mr. Prime Minister"?

I'm sure it was just a mistake, right? Or did Biden say something completely different during the meeting?

ROFL, as if Biden has anything to say about it. This is strictly damage control for Kerry's gaffe.

Unfortunately, the Iraqis don't need to read history books on Cambodia and Viet Nam to know about killing fields. They have their own, brought about when Bush 41 told them to rise up against Saddam. U.S. support never came, and Saddam slaughtered the rebels by the hundreds of thousands.

If they are less than enthusiastic about rising up now against the Baathists and insurgents, it is with good reason. The sooner Bush 43 gets reelected, and the uncertainty of future support for a free Iraq disappears, the better for all of us..

Kerry would stab them in the back and they all know it.

Allawi should ask former South Vietnamese officials what they think of this kind of promise...

Wonder what the Iraqi equivanent of "boat people" will be?

Someone needs to ask Kerry if he thinks the "blood bath" that will follow defeat in Iraq will be bigger that the one that followed the fall of Saigon...
