Top senator calls Iraq 'quagmire' for US (Teddy Kennedy alert)
Turkish Press ^ | Sept. 26, 2004 | AFP

Posted on 09/26/2004 2:35:21 PM PDT by FairOpinion

WASHINGTON, Sept 26 (AFP) - A leading US senator said Sunday that the United States was locked in a "quagmire" in Iraq, calling the war a diversion from the hunt for Al-Qaeda boss Osama bin Laden after the September 11, 2001 attacks.

"The greatest threat to American security after 9/11 is Al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden," Democratic Senator Edward Kennedy told CBS television.

"We had an effective program to try to deal with Al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. We were diverted to going into Iraq. And as a result of going into Iraq, we see we are locked in there in a quagmire," the Massachusetts senator said on the "Face the Nation" program.

Kennedy said Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi had given a "rosy assessment" of the situation in his country that was "in conflict with the national intelligence and in conflict with the reports that are coming back."

"The facts, the growth of violence, the growth of violence in Iraq, says a lot more than political-speak does," Kennedy said.

"We have to free ourselves from the lies, the distortions about Iraq. Every time we have these misstatements, every time we have these lies, we sink further and further into the quagmire," he said.

During a visit to Washington last week, Allawi vowed that Iraqi elections would proceed as planned in January, insisting that "we are succeeding in Iraq."

President George W. Bush sought to use Allawi's visit to bolster his defence of his own record against mounting attacks from John Kerry, the Democratic challenger in the November 2 election.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina defended the administration's optimistic view, while warning that more troops would be needed to secure the country for the elections.

"We have to push forward, and we have to create a sense of democracy and momentum," Graham said.

"Allawi is right to come here and be optimistic, because his people are dying, and there's been four assassination attempts against him. He's a very brave guy."

"I think we need more troops. We need to make Fallujah less of a sanctuary by January. There are things that we can do as a nation to make it more secure in Iraq, but we need to adjust," Graham said.

"So what I'm urging the administration to do is be more candid about how difficult it will be to have a January election, but be insistent that we do."

This gets picked up in the foreign press, this article is from the Turkish press. This kind of article is what creates anti-American sentiments, NOT President Bush's policies. It also gives hope and encouragement to our enemies, who conclude, that all they have to do is capture and behead a few more civilians, blow up a few more US troops, and we will turn tail and leave Iraq, so the terrorists can take it over.

Teddy Kennedy's (and Kerry's similar) statements are not only irresponsible, but treasonous.

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction."
- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members .. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation .. And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real ..."
- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

Does a state have to choose to secede or can the rest of the United States kick a state out?

Sadly, that's a great comment. Only a liberal killer could be reelected again and again and again.

Ted Kennedy supplies evidence writ large of unrepented sin.. The wages of unrepentent sin. He's still at Chappaquidick. It continues to play out through all these years!

Indeed, the honorable dead do have ways to redeem their honor, and call out beyond the grave.

Kennedy and Kerry are 2 peas in a pod. Kennedy had a lot to do with Kerry and VVAW days. Kennedy has been looking for a coat tail to ride in the oval office for years. He could never get the office on his own because he is a murderer a drunk and a lier.

Understand the truth - Teddy Kennedy, co-conspirators and assorted tools believe they alone are capabable of ruling. They believe the rest of us are mere cogs in the machinery of government.

Alcoholic, slug-like in appearance and demeanor, Teddy perfectly captures the totalitarian nature of leftist politics. Jaba The Hut on wheels or a Munich Beer Hall thug in drag?

What category is Teddy "the swimmer" Kennedy leading in the Senate? Most blow up the nose in one sitting? Waitresses sandwiched between two senators at one table? Number of mistresses killed in Oldsmobiles? Shots of scotch consumed before breakfast? Help me here.

Oh, you cannot hold The Naval "Hero" of Chappaquiddick responsible for statements like that. Give him a break. Florida has been hit by so many hurricanes lately that he has been unable to go boozing and skirt chasing for coeds in his West Palm Beach stomping grounds for at least 5 weeks. He is probably suffering from the "ddt's" and toxic levels of viagra. You have to have a little compassion. He also is probably suffering from extreme back strain. Have you checked out the size of his gut lately! Poor guy.

The only way Unca Teddy is gonna find Osama is if bin Laden is placed in the bottom of a gin bottle.

I just watched the end of a C-Span playback of a Michelle Malkin presentation at a UC Berkley book signing earlier this month. (She was GREAT, BTW - despite what she called left-wang "tantrums".) Michelle mentioned that she had issues with the current administration's border policy. She also said Kerry would be worse - considering Unca Teddy could be Attorney General. There was, surprisingly, more than a fair amount of applause.

Why do Kerry Supporters Share Talking Points with al Qaeda?

John Kerry was sharing talking points with the Viet Cong in 1970.
He now admits he was secretly meeting with them, and they coordinated talking points.

I wonder about this time around is it:
coincidence?
-or-
collusion?

To be entirely fair, Kerry says that in 1970 he was checking out the POW situation with the Viet Cong reps in Paris.
I'll conjecture Kerry agreed to publicly speak out as spokesman of VVAW in favor of the VC's "peace plan" {even though it was diometricly opposed to US foreign policy} in exchange for something.

Kerry probably agreed with the VC's "peace plan" anyway.
Even if he was "selling out" {and committing a felony} for something else.
