ELECTION 2004 Kerry denies owning Chinese assault rifle Senator derided as hypocrite for supporting ban on weapon

A sportman's magazine's report that John Kerry owns a Chinese assault rifle is not true, the senator's presidential campaign contends.

As WorldNetDaily reported, Kerry, who has pushed for bans on so-called assault weapons, was quoted in the October issue of Outdoor Life responding to a Q&A presented to both leading presidential candidates.

"My favorite gun is the M-16 that saved my life and that of my crew in Vietnam. I don't own one of those now, but one of my reminders of my service is a Communist Chinese assault rifle."

But campaign spokesman Michael Meehan told the New York Times Kerry owns two guns, a double-barreled 12-gauge shotgun and a single-bolt-action military rifle, which he "keeps as a relic" and had never fired.

Outdoor Life claimed it had done an exclusive interview with the candidates, but Meehan said many of the remarks attributed to Kerry were from a questionnaire filled out by campaign staff.

The military rifle, which has no markings, came from a friend of Kerry's "years ago," Meehan said, noting rifles of that kind were first produced more than 100 years ago in Russia.

They commonly were used by North Korean and Viet Cong communists.

Meehan told the Times he was unable to ask Kerry about the rifle last week because of the senator's hoarse voice.

Kerry is a hunter who voiced support for the recently expired assault-weapons ban and often tells citizens he's never met anyone who wanted to use an AK-47 to shoot a deer.

Last week, Andrew Arulanandam, a spokesman for the National Rifle Association, told the Times the comment in Outdoor Life made Kerry's support of the ban disingenuous.

''It's OK for John Kerry to own these kinds of firearms, but it's not OK for John Q. Public?'' Arulanandam said, adding Kerry could be subject to court-martial if the gun were brought home from the war as a souvenir. ''He certainly owes people an explanation as to why there's a double standard.''

""My favorite gun is the M-16 that saved my life and that of my crew in Vietnam. I don't own one of those now, but one of my reminders of my service is a Communist Chinese assault rifle."

Kerry missed that part in boot...

"This is my rifle, this is my gun, this is for work, this is for fun."

Which one does he use while crawling around after deer? My guess is that he borrows an AK-47 from his wife.

I always make sure I purchase the Republican version of all my "assault rifles".

He probably got that Chinese rifle from one of his Vietnamese General buddies, when he was over in Paris negotiating on their behalf.

I've been wanting to ask, but never got around to it....

Here in the Southeast, my hunter friends tell me that the preferred method for hunting deer is out of a treestand or running the dogs. But that's just here, so....

Does ANYONE, ANYWHERE, hunt deer by crawling on their belly?

Not unless I WANT to make noise to scare the deer. I was taught to pick a spot near areas where deer are likely to move and quietly wait for them. On the other hand, I am not a flip-flopping, France-worshipping poseur who is running for the highest office in the US.

Apparently, Kerry holds a pen in his throat to write.

Do these guys even think before they open their mouths?

Or the North Vietnamese Army gave it to Kerry as a gift for negotiating the POW MIA crisis
settleing it in their favor and thereby securing a nice real estate deal for Kerry's Forbes cousin

Never mind John F Kerry did this while our POW MIAs were being tortured right under his nose as he was wined and dined by our most vile enemies...

But campaign spokesman Michael Meehan told the New York Times Kerry owns two guns, a double-barreled 12-gauge shotgun and a single-bolt-action military rifle ....

...adding that such rifles were first manufactured in Russia more than 100 years ago and were used by the North Koreans and the Vietcong.

The Mosin-Nagant rifle was developed in Russia in the 1890s and was used by Russia in WWI, WWII and was later produced in huge quantities by the Red Chinese.

Kerry was either exaggerating his story, turning an obsolete bolt-action rifle into an AK-47, or Kerry thinks that a WWI-era bolt-action rifle is an "assault rifle" and should be banned. Given that Kerry recently voted to ban most centerfire rifle cartridges (including calibers that are not "military" but are commonly used by hunters and target shooters), it stands to reason that Kerry would also ban 100 year-old bolt-action rifles.

The gun control fanatics might allow Kerry to hunt pheasants on his estates with his $10,000 shotgun, but the "sportsman" Kerry would confiscate grandpa's rifle.

There is no John F. Kerry.

The only fact about kerry is he doesn't understand facts. He understands sound-bites and canned speeches but there is no way in the world anyone can get a simple answer from the katsup boy.

It must be from dealing with a willing, biased media which sucked up every lame answer he has given from the last twenty years.
