INDONESIAN investigators have identified the suicide bomber of the Australian Embassy attack after finding DNA at the scene that matched samples taken from his mother, police said yesterday.
A senior officer refused to name the man but said police now believed one suicide attacker - not two as previously thought - drove the van that blew up outside the heavily fortified Jakarta building on September 9 killing nine people and injuring more than 180.
The officer did not say how the DNA sample was known to be the bomber's and would not give any more details.
Meanwhile, police released a photo of a new suspect in the blast that also wounded 170 people.
Lieutenant General Suyitno Landung identified that suspect as Iwan Darmawan, alias Rois.
General Landung would not specify Darmawan's role in the blast, but said he was believed to be on the run with the attack's alleged masterminds, Malaysian militants Azahari bin Husin and Noordin Mohamed Top.
The photo shows a light-skinned man with a beard and a small scar on the left side of his face. He speaks with a West Javanese accent and is 165cm tall, General Landung said.
The attack has been blamed on al-Qaeda linked militants implicated in the 2002 Bali attacks and a blast last year outside the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Jakarta.
Police have arrested five people in connection with the blast.
Hey why not get the DNA of the mother in the same form. At least another terroist breeder will join her spwan in hell!
