If I went to a university for a geology degree and came out thinking the earth was flat, either the school would be shut down or I would be deemed a mental defective. Maybe both would happen.

They don't come away, or for that matter, go in with any beliefs. It is a sad fact that theology or religion, as taught at American Universities, are the only areas of study which require disbelief in the material.
Religion is only viewed as a method of philosophy.
I can't count the number of times I've heard a PHD in theology explaining the meaning of the Bible, only to think to myself, "Unless of course you believe in God."
I noticed that the "gay theology" meeting mentioned in the article promotes perverts acting out in all sorts of violent sadomasochistic ways. Reading this article I realized for the first time the extent that "gay" events also have strong violent undertones. It is as if some people are so addicted to sensations (even bad, painful sensations) that they go from one extreme to the next. I wonder how much of the violence in society is directly or indirectly tied to the increased acceptance of perversion?
They try to reduce the word of God to what Jesus explicitly said, as if Jesus wasn't constantly quoting scripture, identifying himself with the prophets, and fulfilling the prophecies of Isaiah.
There is a coarsening of society as mankind invents new ways to be perverse. The first few chapters of Romans discusses this.

Mrs little jeremiah and myself have studied various eastern topics such as Chi Gung, Tai Chi, Kung Fu, and Ayurveda. These all teach that not only same sex acts but anal sex, oral sex and masturbation promote mental and emotional sickness as well as physical ailments. I have had the 'privilege' of being in the Mission District during one of these Marches, and I must say that for electrically venomous, rank, raw, screaming, chanting, swearing, death demanding street hissy fit Tantrum Theater - I have never seen its like. Quite a visceral feeling it is too. One moment you are going about your business in your home town, and the next the sky is filled with the roar of what seems like an entire hells angels convention come to town.
Then the Dykes on Bikes appear at the head of the mob. These are some of the most butch hatemongers of the bunch (a matter of degree only), and they delight in 'Bulling' their way through the streets using motorcycles as a weapon. Little jeremiah's other half inadvertently ran into a couple of "Gay Pride" parades and the sight burned an indelible mark of horror. Stuff like "men" dressed up in bits of leather, chains, and spikes, hold LITTLE BOYS on leashes and dog collars behind them, or sitting on their shoulders. And on and on.
What's amazing to me is that is that so many who are NOT homosexuals are drinking the Koolaid.
