If someone would be kind enough to make a list of Republican nays and no-votes, along with Democrat yeas...?

If not, I'll try to find the time to do that and add it to the thread here later.

BTW, the vote was reported by news outlets to have been a "largely party-line vote" ("Anti-Gay Marriage Amendment Fails in House," Reuters), so don't let Democrats get away with comments or arguments that the FMA is doomed to fail. It's almost Election time, and the FMA will be back!

There are virtually no Republicans who are against the FMA, and our President announced that he is in favor of it, thanks to our very prevalent moral majority.

So now they should go back to their earlier idea, that of eliminating the power of the federal courts to foist this abomination onto states. And this time they should demand that the President take a stand on the issue, one way or the other. If he really means what he says about protecting marriage, then he has no excuse not to support it.

It's interesting to see that 6 black Democrats voted for the amendment, and 6 additional black Democrats did not cast a vote. While the fact that blacks overwhelmingly oppose gay marriage is ignored by the liberal media, many black Democrats know on which side their bread is buttered. Among the black Democrats who voted for the amendment is Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, who had an uncomfortably close election in 2002 against black Republican Clinton LeSueur and who will face an even stronger challenge from LeSueur this November. Methinks Thompson is scared that his black majority district will toss him out unless he pretends to be a conservative.

It is also interesting to see the names of the other Democrats who voted for the amendment---it's pretty much a who's who of Democrats who are running in conservative districts where they may lose if they vote against the amendment (although a handful of them would vote for the amendment out of personal conviction even if it didn't help them politically).

I noticed that too.

Chris John in Louisiana (running for Senate) and Jim Matheson in Utah (a close race in '02) just to name a few.

Stephanie Herseth of So Dakota voted for it too. Imagine the brown fecal matter hitting the fan back in SoDak if she hadn't voted for it?

Out of 227 Republicans, 36 either voted against or didn't vote. How many of the Democrat Platform, sick, lame and lazy are in the northeast and on the west coast? ...most, I suspect! Would one of you be so nice as to show us which states each of the following are in? And let me know
if there are any errors in the following (see "Roman" font at the top of the post above).

We worked with a black client today who said the only reason he would consider voting for President Bush was over the gay marriage issue. This is a conservative man who is snookered by the democrats!

Bart Gordon, the dem representative from Tennessee knows on which side his bread is buttered. He voted for it, although I am sure it is one of those "choke on it so I don't get booted" votes.

Some of the Republicans who voted "no" are actually pretty good conservatives, so I assume they voted against the amendment on federalism grounds. While I disagree with their reasoning, I wouldn't call them RINOs or call for their defeat.

After years of contributing to them, I stopped donating to the NRSC (Natl. Repub. Senatorial Campaign) the day that 5 GOP Senators voted to acquit Clinton in the big impeachment trial. I told them it was because they could not guarantee to me that any of the $$$ I donated would not go to any of those five!

And I haven't given to them since. There are still plenty of other GOP groups I've continued to donate to, though.

What a shameful day that was! I went and put up my flag at half mast that black day, in mourning for our country.

There are virtually no Republicans who are against the FMA...

About 16% of the Republicans didn't vote for it. That's one in six.

...our President announced that he is in favor of it

And our Vice President announced that he was against it.

I wrote "virtually," meaning "for all practical purposes." The word was around before electronic computers were.

And a higher percentage of Democrats voted in favor of it. It is also likely that quite a few Democrats will lose their seats as a result of their vote against it.

The FMA will be back soon, and it will pass.

"I would also like to see what states all of the votes came from."

Here they are--the parade of RINO districts (and states, where multiple offences occurred) and individuals in the House. Now we know why they have such piggy voting records.
