Bush started horribly, finished decently.

Kerry won the debate. Had more facts, stayed on message better, seemed in control.

Not a big deal in the big picture though. Kerry needed a knockout punch and didn't get it. No major gaffes from Bush, though (inexplicably) he seemed unprepared.

Shouldn't move the polls much, but Bush needs to do better in the next two debates.

It's unfortunate that when we are of one mind on a subject it is bad for our side.

Your comments are right on target.

Kerry handed the Swiftboat vets a HUGE baseball bat to bludgeon him with when he said "I've never waivered"

Yes, talk about a flat-out lie. However, I don't know that much mileage for Bush will come from it, as Kerry's whole campaign and history are lies and flip-flops. People that will vote for Kerry already know he's a liar, so I don't think that one comment will make much different. It just further demonstrates what a danger it is that this man could be President.

I recall the Gore/Bush debates. I couldnt watch them. I wanted to take Bush by the shoulders and shake him. If I remember correctly, I felt that he lost those debates--but in the end they worked for him.

He is inarticulate. He stumbles. He grasps for words. Its aggravating. But thats who he is.

I think we'll be OK.

I just love this man George W Bush
He is a good man , with a good heart .
he may not be the sharpest 'sounding' guy around
but what's inside is what counts.
President Bush is real, and Kerry is a stage managed
prop , a front man for a lot of people with very
questionable agendas.

Take heart dear Mr. President , we the people are behind
you ! We will not disappoint you on Nov. 2nd....

Bush is a "nice guy" however now is the time to get the boxing gloves on.

Why? Ok, for us we would like Bush to clean Kerry's clock in a internet kind of way but we are already voting for Bush.

No, Bush showed he isn't the mean evil devil the media makes him out to be, just a regular sort of fella that isn't slick, swarmy or condescending. Kerry on the other hand came across are pure slick politico but without the smoothness of a Clinton.

We aren't the only ones with BS detectors and maybe the fence sitters can't pick up the subtleties but I think they can tell poor BS from Clintonian BS and Kerry is no Clinton. Kerry needed to sell himself tonight and all he did was show he is a used car salesman with a poor pitch.

Kerry's constant attacks arent going to go over well with the undecided female voters.

I'd have to say Kerry won on points....but like I said earlier......Bush came across as HUMAN, and STEADFAST, Kerry came across as just a typical politician with wonky talk

One thing though- Bush needs to quit slouching on the damn podium!

I think Bush will do much better in the town hall format..

My ISP server has a poll that has Bush-56% Kerry 44% (8,000) voters) and they are a bunch of liberal hacks. Don't PANIC. I'm glad that is over I was so nervous.

Yes, but do you think the average person will judge the debaters on the actual debate skills or points?

I don't thinks so. Alot of people will decide by how confident or assertive the candidate's are.

I think Pres Bush came off as defensive and unsteady. But I don't think that we're doomed as some others may think.

I hope the next debate is different.

Kristinn talking about John Effin Kerry saying he'd go to other countries saying, "what do you need? What do you need?" so they'd be on our side.

Kristinn said, "We already had one Monica Lewinski on her knees in the Oval Office. We don't need another one in the person of John Kerry." (para)
