I used to be a fan but now think Buchanan is the John Kerry of the right... self-absorption in his own career has made him put consistency and care for our national security at the bottom of his value system.

"Did ND ever answer the question?" I think she had to take her neo-Nazi uniform to the cleaners'. You may have heard their slogan-"We'll make your clothes as pure as the Master Race."

But after we unceasingly have stuck our nose into the Middle East time in again, and continued to support Israel uncritically(to the tune of billions of dollars)..It is no wonder that we are so hated and despised there..

Well let;s see, the Islamist are fighting with the Hindu's in India, I don't recall India being a big supporter of Israel, In Indonesia, Nigeria, Sudan, Phillipines, Russia, and on and on.

The Islamist attack anyone who resist Islamic Theoracies. Do the Jews REALLY control policy in ALL those other countries in conflict with Islam???

Pat is crazy at this point. On economics I'd recommend he read Freidman and Sowell, but I doubt he' listen to a Jewish or BLack economist.

I don't think much refutation is necessary...just turn on the tv
That is not an answer. There are many interpretations of what is going on. I'm sorry that you only see one perspective.

I find it tragic that Buchanan is bashed for being so right on the mess we are in today in Iraq
Only if you ignore half of the balance sheet and buy false assumptions regarding Iraq's relationship with terrorist groups.

...Our standing in the Moslem world is about as high as John Kerry's on Free Republic
So?

Wars ALWAYS result in MORE government and MORE wasteful spending and more attacks on individual freedom...Does that bother the pro-war crowd here?Apparently not...So much for being "conservative"....
Quite the opposite. We simply look at the costs of not fighting now.

Ronald Reagan would NEVER have been involved in a quagmire such as this.
Really? He supported Vietnam.

His use of force in Grenada was calculated and prudent, not reckless and with no purpose
Bush has a purpose here, even if you are blind to it.
The goal of changing the Middle East may be a pipe dream, but it is still a purpose.

I've never understood why the "anti-semitic " charge always seems to have more moral compunction than say,Rudolph Guliani's attack on Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ..
1. Look up the Holocaust.
2. Buchanan skirts the line in almost any imagineable way.

Maybe old Rudy's an anti-Catholic bigot, but that doesn't seem to matter.
PRobably, but the difference is the facts behind the charge.

Find fault with something Israel does or someone who happens to be Jewish and you're automatically Hitler's illegitimate son.
Don't give me that victimization by the victimized crap.
REread Cui Buono and tell me that Buchanan does not blame Jews for everything.

Chastise a Catholic(or any conservative Christian) and nobody says anything...
Who are you talking about here?

The problem is, you can't control everybody in the world...
This is true, but irrelevent. No one is calling for it.
Make a coherent case otherwise.

What are we supposed to do?...Declare war on the entire Islamic world?.
That is exactly what neocons actually don't want to do. They wish to see this as a problem of bad governments whpping up the clash of civs.
I see the clash as inevitable. However, we can take out threats, while promoting liberty.
Hiding is not an option.

Instead of invading places that have little or nothing to do with national security,we should have pursued a much more moderate, responsible course...
Such as what, appeasement?

The Moslem world does NOT have to be our entire enemy...
Who has said that it is other than certain paleocons like Srdja Trifkovic?
The conflict is with Islamists, not all Muslims. The idea is to destroy the Islamists and to force Muslims to look to other solutions like modernization.

We need to quit taking sides and announce our neutrality on the Palestinian/Israeli question as well as our disinterest in who governs the Middle East as long as we can trade for oil...
You should really read what the enemy says it actually wants. Allowing an Islamic anschluss will only guarantee that we will have to fight the Islamic world in the future!
The Islamists want to conquer the entire world. First they wish to unify the Muslim world. Then they wish to reconquer any territory actually or percieved to have been controled by Muslims. Finally they wish to conquere everything else.
Fleeing before a small threat to allow the Islamists their first goal, will only ensure more threats in the future.
Islamists do not think like we do. Givin g them control of oil will not make them weak. It will give them control over us.
Selling out Israel will only delay the fight and make it occur in Andalusia, Russia, or mainland Europe.

The same people(mostly neo-cons,but not all) who say that China will change through trade, somehow want us all to put on combat boots and invade anybody in the Middle East we don't like...
Hardly.
1. Neocons are quite split on China. Most actually do not believe that the Cold war ended and support Taiwan.
2. No one is talking of taking out every regime from the Atlas Mountains to the Java Sea.

...I think Buchanan is entirely correct to suggest that forces in America who are overly solicitious of Israel may indeed be interested in just such an outcome.
A yes. Churchill was the war monger, not Hitler.

Pat is saying what many think but don't have his courage to say....
Stupidity and courage are often confused.

Again, the charge of Anti-Semitism is used to stifle debate....For the record, I support self-determination for EVERYBODY...Israel and the Palestinians...but some unfortunately, want it for only one side...
1. Considering that no one opposes a sovereign Arab nation on 3/4 of PAlestine, Jordan, you are just wrong.
2. Any arguement against Israel in the West Bank and Gaza can be made against the US in the west.
3. A number of neocons, including Wolfowitz support a second Palestinian state.

My comments are posted on the previous thread.
IMHO, you've been around long enough to be expected to make better use of the FR search function before posting duplicate threads.
