Bush in the first presidential debate on Thursday, the president’s lead in the race for the White House has vanished, according to the latest NEWSWEEK poll. In the first national telephone poll using a fresh sample, NEWSWEEK found the race now statistically tied among all registered voters, 47 percent of whom say they would vote for Kerry and 45 percent for George W. Bush in a three-way race. Removing Independent candidate Ralph Nader, who draws 2 percent of the vote, widens the Kerry-Edwards lead to three points with 49 percent of the vote versus the incumbent’s 46 percent. Four weeks ago the Republican ticket, coming out of a successful convention in New York, enjoyed an 11-point lead over Kerry-Edwards with Bush pulling 52 percent of the vote and the challenger just 41 percent.

Could be, or perhaps that considering that unlike Kerry, President Bush still has to do his job as President as he campaigns. That cannot be an easy set of balls to juggle, and then have to go and stand there and listen to Kerry begin with a barage of lies and misrepresentations from the get go, that it would have taken the entire 90 min to unravel....I would scowl too......that is if I didn't just go pop him and get it overwith;/

The picture that MSNBC uses in this article bugs me a little - it shows Bush frowning with the caption "The face of frustration?". Well, yeah he's probably frustrated, but it was probably with a dumbass statement Kerry just made, not with whatever MSNBC is implying.
I've posted here a half dozen times my view that there should be no debates. These broadcast debate charades are a relatively new development. The "debates" merely serve to enhance the prospects of a glib, quick-thinking speaker who otherwise is an empty suit, to the disadvantage of a candidate whose gifts are strenth, resoluteness, intelligence, purposefulness, etc., but doesn't have the language skills of his opponent. It would be shameful if the outcome of an election with major geopolitical consequences would hinge on mere televised theatrics.

Forget the polls. Run like we're ten points behind. Get the base activated, and get them to the ballot box in November.
Right. In fact, except for the more outrageous of their "ideas" and feelings (perhaps a large majority, at that), I would welcome the ability to skewer their crap. Sorry for the mixed metaphor.

I'e been noticing an odd strain of defeatism, unjustified by what's actually been happening. I suspected that DU trolls were infiltrating, posting negatively, then reporting back to DU that "Freepers are freaking out over all the bad news"

Tell me somebody this isn't true. I have seen the Rasmussen poll and Bush still leads by three, but this poll is scary. I really hope Bush did not screw up. John Kerry as President would be a nightmare.

I don't mean to be rude to the originator of this thread- yet this topic was THOROUGHLY covered on FR yesterday.
As a relative newbie myself, I try to take the TIME and search the current threads to see if what I'm about to post is in fact "news". This forum is remarkable in it's ability to quickly disseminate facts.
A simple truth in life is Money talks, BS walks.
Meaning...I wouldn't put much weight in a poll were the participants have nothing at stake.
Looking at Tradesports.com , where people actually have to back their opinions with money, the President is doing just fine.
