WASHINGTON - In the presidential campaign's closing weeks, Democrats are bracing for an "October Surprise," an event so dramatic it could influence the election's outcome. The capture of Osama bin Laden, for instance.

Bush could use a massive "October surprise".

Hope Rove can come up with something huge.

The RATs have been saying this for months. They are just prepping us for anything so they can say see what told you they were going to october surpise us. And then they'll dismiss the charges by just saying the timing is suspicious.

If it is Osama's capture, once again it's smart for the RATs to get out in front of this. If he isn't captured, the US has been given the false hope that we could capture him. If we do capture him they'll say they timed it with the election.

Smart play by the Party of the RAT.

The surprise is that a Republican inside the Pentagon will leak Kerry's dishonorable discharge, the one issued before Jimmy Carter's pardon allowed him to get an honorable discharge in 1978.

Rove said this week on radio, I believe it was Hannity that a couple of interesting things have been saved for October. The Dems have fired both barrels already. Let's see. UBL, Hillary, Linda Tripp his Pentagon records to show his bad conduct discharge,, jail Sandy Burglar, or CA Sec of State Shelly, or NJ GOv McGreasy, maybe expose Kerry's gay affair with Hillary or something kind of juicy.

Oh, Criminy! What a load of C-B-S. I guess the DNC sent out these talking points to the MSM just to be on the offensive should something break. (It's old news, etc...)

I guess the "Kerry-hit-a-grand-slam-during-the-debate-and-is-now-well-ahead-of-Bush " memo isn't cutting it.

Sheesh.

Sadly they would love to see a major disaster befall our fighting men. It's sad how far down they've sunk.
My guess for the Oct surprise is the Dems replacing Edwards with Hillary.

Let's see... in 2000, the DUI story surfaced that last weekend.... in 1992, the Iran-Contra indictments came down.... In 1988, the George H.W. Bush SR-71 Blackbird "story" came out...

Someone tell me why the DEMOCRATS should be worried about an October surprise?

I hope you're not suggesting that we get into a nuclear war to win the election! I want to win, but sheesh...that's too drastic for me! Remember, N Korea has nukes that can hit the U.S. I would wish for some OTHER October surprise than that one! Maybe a big hit on some terrorist areas in Iraq or something. But not a nuclear war. No way.

Q: Why so much news coverage of an item that hasn't happened?
A: Building hyperanticipation, so that if nothing transpires, and it probably won't, it will seem that Bush is weak.

These will begin about Oct 15 or so.

It occurred to me some time ago that if Bush found WMD's he might just sit on them and trot them out right before the election.

However, this would upset me, because news like that would have wound things up a lot quicker in Iraq and that means a lot of service people got hurt or killed to get Bush reelected.

For anybody who has taken basic Psych... there's a little thing called T.R.A.N.S.F.E.R.E.E.N.C.E. In essence, those with an evil character subscribe the same motivations and interests that motivate them to others.

Because of their inherent corruption and incompetence, as well as envy, Democrats assume all Republicans are similarly disposed. In terms of politics, it means that because they can't possibly create anything worth being bought and/or make their livings otherwise, Democrats have become leaches and whores living off those of us who work hard and are angered when we reduce their right to our blood.

In essence, they hate us Republicans not necessarily because we disagree on an ideological basis, but because they think the world owes them power and wealth that has been denied them. What we are dealing with is the inherent jealousy of those gifted with lust for power but no intellect or value to use to derive wealth.

They have created an intellectually and morally bankrupt party with a lust for power and messianic complex that results in paranoia about their opposition when they lose. They hate Republicans and Libertarians because no matter how educated or uneducated we are, we are generally more successful and better friends to our neighbors. We show up to put out fires, stop to help people on the highway, give to the church and caharities, etc...They want to tax all of us so they don't have to do any of those things and can still sleep at night believeing that these things are the government's problem.

I would sooner live within a mile of 100 armed Republicans than next door to one unarmed Democrat. Those who are unwilling to protect themselves from criminals and terrorists do the rest of us no favors.

Similarly, only the stupid believe Dick Cheney or George Bush care to derive or do derive any benefit from their former corporate affiliations. They're already rich from legal means, they don't need government help.

"The surprise is that a Republican inside the Pentagon will leak Kerry's dishonorable discharge, the one issued before Jimmy Carter's pardon allowed him to get an honorable discharge in 1978."

This has been on my mind as well. I wonder if the Dims think if they had seceded in the Dan Rather Memogate that it would have balanced out with the Dishonorable Discharge of Kerry's? I too think that this is what is being saved for October's shock.

The has to be good a reason that Kerry didn't receive a discharge of any kind until March of 2001. Thirty years is a long time to wait for release. j

>Where is this conjecture/rumor coming from? ANY solid evidence to encourage us with?>

Just a gut feeling mainly. I have followed freerepublic for quite sometime and gathered facts and opines from several of you. I guess the light just came on from the evidence given. I guess being a Cop is part of it though and a crime scene is usually abundant in evidence and a general focus of direction. The arrows all point to this IMHO.

I still want to point out that Kerry was never intended to win this race and I have stated so here a couple of times with no response to my lunacy. I guess it is hard to comprehend the Dims not wanting to win, but I have logic to cover this idea if you are interested. J

"that would also explain why Rather & gang are so reluctant to admit the memos are forged"

Look at the memo documents, do I really think that the WH didn't know they were fake? They just accepted them and sent them out to everyone and then, Oh my, a guy from freerepublic noticed that they were produced by Word2K. I don't think so. We play hardball just like everyone else. It went over much better with the blogers elevating this to view than the WH doing it.

As for the choice of the far left Kerry for president? He will not swing the centrist or moderates voters that are on the fence of every election. It is no secret that they are the key to winning and the ones who have decided every election of the last century. Even the Dim's made note of this fact upon Gore losing the 2000 election. Their statement then was that they must move toward a centrist position to win the next election. Their own statements in 2000 supports the fact that John Kerry was never intended to win. The Democrats conceded the election before the 2004 campaign even started by choosing him.

Just look at this left wing extremist they are running. He has enough negative aspects from the Vietnam War protest alone to knock him out of contention. I thought from the beginning that the objective was to wait and win in 2008 with two terms into 2016 with Hillary Clinton. There is something about this time frame that is appealing to the D's. If Kerry won the 2004 election it would kill Hillary's chance of running because of Kerry's automatic second term shot. Besides "W" hasn't finished cleaning up the playground yet.

I know my views are not accepted by all, but I think this new Democratic logic will become a reality. Look at the disgust we all have and share with most Democrats of the political extremes of the party. The moderates swarm to the side that offers the centrist issues attention. I have been such a voter and many others here are as well.

I see the Democrats turning back to center with the proclamation of being the party your grandfather was supportive of and not the left-wing liberal party that has been hi-jacked today. Look for Ted Kennedy to fall from his throne and other left-wing extremist and their ideas as well for proof.

I believe the blame of loss in this election is needed by the party to shift the direction back to the center.

The Dims have to long been guilty of recruiting any lunatic that will vote in their direction and allowed the grass root democrat to be consumed by the right who reached out to the common conservative voter that had been abandoned. j

Kerry and the DNC are betting (hoping?) for another terrorist attack. The DNC has been running ads on bin Laden and Kerry refers to Homeland Security shortcomings in most (every?) of his speeches now. If anything happens, he'll be saying, "I told you so, but you didn't do enough." Pretty disgusting when what's good for America is bad for Kerry and the Dems.
