So what is the explanation for Alan Keyes' dismissal showing;

That's "dismal," and the reason why he didn't win was because the Illinois pubbies saw to it that he would be outspent by Obama at a rate of 260-to-1. Try to make a decent showing when you're that outspent.

he is, after all, a "genuine conservative." Don't try to deny it; his own web site says he is.

I find your obvious glee in Keyes' defeat remarkably disturbing.

This is garbage. We had no solid majority. We had Hagel, McCain and the NE Rinos. This is a dumb article.

"Well Sarge, if you can explain what that picture has to do with new nanny-state entitlements, and expanding the funding of the NEA to insane levels, please post it. "

Good point.

Don't forget the further relaxing of our southern borders with Mexico by a (R) President, even though we're fighting the WOT.

So stop the whining, quit lazily blaming every problem in life on mythical RINOs (it's a meaningless term) and start doing smart things politically to get your needs met.

First off, RINOs are not mythical. If you think John McCain qualifies as a genuine Republican with his assault on the First Amendment via the McCain-Feingold Act (which favors the multi-million-dollar Leftist 527s), then you've got some serious learning to do, FRiend.

And when you see Republicans voting for pro-abortion, anti-Second Amendment and invasive government programs, you've got yourself a RINO. Those positions are in line not with the Republican platform, but the Democrat platform.

I find it quite disturbing that we've been told for the last six years that we're not GOOD ENOUGH conservatives.

That's "dismal," and the reason why he didn't win was because the Illinois pubbies saw to it that he would be outspent by Obama at a rate of 260-to-1.

What about all the Keyes supporters? Didn't they donate? You'd think a "real conservative" running -- you know the ones who CAN win -- would have drawn money from all of you that have been claiming that for years now.

I find your obvious glee in Keyes' defeat remarkably disturbing.

It's not glee at all; it's like watching a train wreck you knew was going to happen sooner or later.

Other than blaming others, don't you think Keyes' and his wildly extreme statments could have had anything to do with his own apparent defeat?

Note that I've included his name in my post #52, which is more than you did when referencing him.

I didn't feel the need to ping him; he's busy trying to run a freepathon so you can post this drivel here.

"Get rid of federally-mandated seatbelt and helmet laws. Try that. Just a little liberty restored, ok?"

If I have to pay to take care of traffic accident victims who lack insurance (or money), allow me to try to minimize my costs.

So, first, eliminate free health care. Just a little personal responsibility restored

Mandatory military service. Reparations for two generations of blacks. Machine guns for all.

Is this a rational human being?

Tell me, do you think Keyes' campaign manages the donations...or the Illinois Republican Party?

Take your time answering. I'll wait.

Please cite a credible source for these incredible claims.

And I'm trying to reply - just didn't get to you first...

We're all aware of the War on Terrorism. We're not going to damn anyone for elevated spending to execute it. There are other factors though, and some of them are just indefensible.

Oh, believe you me, when I agree with you on the head-shaking at some of the votes that come out of the swamp, sometimes. My point was, this particular piece failed to mention, even once, the existence of The War. If everything was in a parallel dimension, sure we could go after these, issue by issue, and discombobulate it. But The War trumps everything else.

if you can explain what that picture has to do with new nanny-state entitlements, and expanding the funding of the NEA to insane levels, please post it.

Well, here goes, with my weak eloquence...

I have read several places (wish I kept the links, though) of these things getting funded through omnibus spending bills which receive up-down votes without great scrutiny. Or worse, they're tied to the budget provisions for Homeland Security.

Now, when I was just on my last DHS mission, we were awash with cash; training missions, we got 'em. Equipment upgrades, they were there. No one questioned the taps wide open for Federal cash coming in - but what I did learn was, there were little remoras attached to the bills, which siphoned off oxygen from the mission: not enough to get the spider-senses tingling, but to a nosy guy like me, it was plain.

Now, I told you that to tell you this: I read the piece front to byline, and to me, it's wonderment that someone can rail against the departments it mentioned, most of whom are engaged in the home front, with the usual GOP-separatist fervor, and fail to realize the current situation. MY question is, what does all this GOP-bashing have to do with The War?

There were threads on FR about each and every one. Is this the first you're hearing about them? You can read about Keyes pushing the mandatory service on the forum, right now.

"Good info....he should've included in his analysis the over $ 70 TRILLION in unfunded liabilities that is conveniently overlooked by both parties.....it's gonna get ugly."

I'm glad someone else read this too. I tried to post the article detailing how the 'Greatest Generation' is set to completely bankrupt the country, but was unable to.

You are correct. Neither candidate wants to offend the elderly vote and both would rather have the power of the Presidency than level with America on our impending banruptcy if we continue to pay these foolish, socialist entitlements.

It's going to take either a massive MASSIVE slashing of Socialism Security and Medicare or a MASSIVE increase in taxation to pay for the Baby Boomer's retirement.

Nope. I asked who you thought managed the money. You gave me a P.O. Box address. What kind of answer is that?

There were threads on FR about each and every one.

There have also been threads on FR about the U.N.'s black helicopters.

I asked for a credible source. FR threads, while interesting, sometimes illuminating and often entertaining, are largely the product of a cacophonous echo chamber and only occasionally resemble credible reporting. The last serious investigative work I saw in an FR thread was courtesy of Buckhead in the wake of the CBS memo scandal.

John McCain is IN FACT a Republican. He organizes with the Republican Senate Caucus, his choice of party affiliation gives Republicans a majority and therefore Chairmanships of the various Senate Committees, he runs against a Democrat every six years and he is campaigning for GOP candidate George W. Bush.

Ron Paul is a more legitimately labeled RINO than John McCain, but even that is false.

What has evolved, in miniscule numbers in the real world but as a significant bitching bloc here, is a cultish group of "my way or the highway" purists who have created a false standard that the only legitimate Republican is one who agrees with them over the entire range of social, economic and security issues. It's bull ... oney. It's a rationalization to withdraw from responsibility, do nothing and affect an "above the fray" arrogance in the process.

If you have such a low opinion of this place, why do you stay?

Let me tell you, the threads all quoted Keyes' own words on these subjects. He favors reparations, mandatory military service, and thinks machine guns ought to be widely avaialable.

You can believe these things or not.

One thing is clear, however. Obama's margin of victory may set a record for a U.S. Senate race.

the single most important issue which trumps all others, for none of the others are worth considering if defense isn't solid

Clearly, I agree. If we're dead (or Muslim for those who want to choose losing that way) it doesn't matter who did what with social security.

just as incrementalism got us here, it might be the only road back

Again, I agree with or at least understand your point. But we're now looking at 10 years after the Contract With America, and it's hard to find even incremental successes. The tax cuts, which may not last, and welfare reform (which at the time we all thought was a good start). But you can't even call the end of the assault weapons ban a success because that's a relatively new problem solved.
