Ruby shot Oswald in the Dallas police HQ basement

DALLAS, Texas (Reuters) -- Dallas plans to allow tourists into the underground garage where President Kennedy's assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, was gunned down more than 40 years ago, city officials said Wednesday.

Nightclub owner Jack Ruby shot Oswald in the basement of what was then the Dallas police headquarters on November 24, 1963.

TV footage and photos of Ruby emerging from a crowd and firing a handgun at Oswald as he was handcuffed to a Dallas police officer have been among the most-seen news images in the world.

Visitors will be allowed to see the basement as well as a cell in the same building complex where Oswald was jailed.

Plans are in the early stages and it could be several years before the historic site is ready, Dallas interim City Manager Mary Suhm said.

For years Dallas tried to live down the reputation of being the city where Kennedy died. In 1989, after a long struggle, Dallas opened The Sixth Floor Museum -- located in the former Texas School Book Depository where Oswald fired his rifle -- that recounts the Kennedy presidency and his death on November 22, 1963.

The museum has been well-received and the city wants to include more of the assassination history into its development plans.

"I think it is a mistake to ignore unpleasant events in the context of history," Suhm said.

LOL! I had to do a double take! Have family who are friends with the Giancanas and read a book (Double Cross ) by Chuck. Great insight into CIA and Mafia collusion.

I didn't know Ruby played a left-handed TelecasterTM. I remember when I first saw the pic, I'll admit I chuckled a bit. Whatever happened, it seems like Oswald was some sort of (involved) patsy. (oops, I might have started a 1,000+ post thread!)

CBS uncovers Bush's hidden past!

Dan Rather and CBS News today showed a photograph that they say Republicans have hidden from the American public for more than 40 years. The photograph shows a young George W Bush 'jamming' with his band in an underground nightclub in Dallas circa 1963.

According to reliable "double-super-secret" sources, President Nixon ordered the cover up, which featured the "doctored" photograph as "prove that Lee Harvey Oswald was himself killed in Dallas two days after assassinating President Kennedy".
Earlier releases of the photograph had been 'doctored' by the Republicans in an attempt to stop the investigation into President Kennedy's death in 1963.

John Kerry, Democratic party nominee for president, has expressed outrage that the assassin of John F Kennedy has been allowed to roam free and even serve as President.

DNC officials say that this photograph is further proof of a "vast right wing conspiracy" and also proves once and for all that George W Bush has not been truthful about his past.

RNC and Whitehouse spokespeople have called the new photograph "ridiculous", but have offered no explanation.
