"John Edwards offered an optimistic vision for the next four years. ... Dick Cheney had nothing to offer but attacks and excuses. ... This vice presidential debate made it obvious that John Kerry and John Edwards are the right choice."
No doubt this accurately reflects the Democratic view of the outcome of the debate. In fact, we got no fewer than two dozen letters from Greater Waterbury, Litchfield County and beyond offering the same spin. The same thing happened last week, when we got numerous letters that sang the praises of Sen. John Kerry's debate performance and criticized President Bush's record.
Ordinarily, this would be expected. In a hotly contested presidential race, people are eager to express their opinions; every October we are inundated with letters about the elections.
What makes Mr. Walsh's letter so extraordinary, however, is his Cheney-Edwards analysis arrived in our e-mail box at 3:42 p.m. Tuesday -- more than five hours before the debate began and a full seven hours before it concluded.
It could be Mr. Walsh is a man of uncommon insight, or maybe the "debates" have become so scripted that ordinary citizens can confidently predict their outcome.
Or perhaps he and the other letter-writers got help from the Democratic National Committee, which on its Web site provides a form letter for people to edit and send to newspapers.
Pertinent excerpts from the DNC letter include: "John Edwards shared an optimistic vision for the next four years. ... But Dick Cheney had nothing to share but attacks and excuses. ... The vice presidential debate made it clear that John Kerry and John Edwards are the right choice." In fact, except for some light editing, the letters were identical. The plagiarism aside, these letters left a good number of other clues showing they were part of a calculated campaign.
As space allows, we are more than happy to publish authentic letters about current events provided they meet our guidelines, which we publish frequently.
But people who cut and paste letters from the Web sites of vested interests waste their time and preempt genuine letters from others supporting their cause.
It really shows how dumb some democrats are.
I wonder if Mr. Walsh has sent his letter concerning the outcome of tomorrow night's debate yet?
Thank goodness this newspaper's editor had enough sense not to run the DNC-programmed letters!
I saw a new pro Kerry ad today. (not sure what group made it) It accuses republicans of lying to make it appear that the president won the last debate.
The other day a freeper said that the best way to know what the democrats are up to is to listen to what they're accusing the president of doing. Apparently it works.
Dear NYTimes,
Anyone with a modicum of intelligence could see that Congoleeza Rice outperformed "The Hildebeast" at last night's historic presidential debate. In fact I .... er.... wait. Sorry, copy/pasted the wrong letter.
Nevermind!
...Maybe this editorial should be in the "Humor" section...
Just finished reading the DU funnies. It seems that the DUmmies view is that any opinion expressed by their minion that Edwards got creamed by Cheney is just not good for the country.
"Lie like hell, it'll help save the world."
Hahaha. LOL
Thank God this newspapers's editor actually reported the DU/DNC e-mail shenanigans for it's readers. You won't hear about this on the MSM, or read about it in the NYT or WaPo. Ironically, the newspapers the DNC told it's supporters to e-mail were mostly relatively unknown newspapers.
I had thought about it when someone posted the Terry McAwful e-mail, because I knew they would get caught doing it, and I would help them get caught.
wrong thread. Disregard last post.
= P
They made a big mistake by sending them to the "Waterbury Republican-American" It is one of the most consistently conservative on line news papers around.
I do that too but I am old.
rofl, optimistic vision.. The left is all about doom & gloom. Long live pessimism!
I did it. I edited the DNC form e-mail to include praising Kerry/Edwards for their support for "the purity of essence of our precious bodily fluids."
"It seems that the DUmmies view is that any opinion expressed by their minion that Edwards got creamed by Cheney is just not good for the country."
When I look on their wesite I always look first for flames, because you know its because one of their own have dared to report a rare (for their site anway) fact.
It always gives me chuckle to read that.
