DeLay Statement on Unanimous Dismissal of Bell Complaint
WASHINGTON- House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) today released the following statement:
"The Ethics Committee has done the right thing in dismissing Mr. Bell's embellished allegations with bipartisan unanimity. While the allegations were dismissed, I accept the Committee's guidance. Mr. Bell displayed contempt for Congress by manipulating the ethics process in pursuit of his personal vendetta, and today's dismissal says more about Mr. Bell's conduct than it does about anything else.
"The Committee was forced to complete its work in a highly divisive atmosphere fostered by politically motivated individuals and entities who have attempted to tamper with and influence the congressional ethics process for partisan gain.
"For years, Democrats have hurled relentless personal attacks at me, hoping to tie my hands and smear my name. All have fallen short, not because of insufficient venom, but because of insufficient merit.
"Mr. Bell's allegations, coordinated with one of these groups, intentionally misstated law and facts and violated the spirit and letter of House Ethics Rules. Although I believe this filing should have been thrown out immediately, I have spent the last four months cooperating with the Committee fact-finding. To expedite this matter, I even offered to waive my rights to bring this matter to closure. I'm glad this matter has been brought to its conclusion.
"I would invite my political opponents to engage the battle of ideas instead of misusing the congressional ethics process or abusing the legal system in a misguided attempt to settle scores.
"I'll continue to work hard to advance the cause of Republican governance, which I believe is critical to America's security, prosperity, and families."
"and furthermore, Nancy Pelosi is a POS..."
I don't mean to sound like a dolt but what is this about?
What did I miss?
If you know you are a target - then don't do anything to give them a reason to get your name in the media -
Democrat scum have been trying to manufacture charges against Delay for years. They've failed yet again.
The Houston Comical doesn't care. They have an agenda. Unfortunately they tipped their hand:
Accidental Houston Chronicle memo admits to tainting the news with political agenda
HOUSTON PING
I just think he could have been smarter - because they "can" and "do" come up with attacks all on their own -
We can't afford to lose this guy - we've lost enough good people already -
just my opinion -
On October 24, 1995--the fiftieth anniversary of the United Nations--frosh Representative Joe Scarborough (Republican--Florida) introduced a bill in Congress to, as the old slogan goes, "get the U.S. out of the U.N. and get the U.N. out of the US" Scarborough's bill seeks U.S. withdrawal from the United Nations, the closing of the US. mission to the United Nations, and the withdrawal of the United Nations from U.S. territory by the year 2000. Among the signers of the bill are Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, House Majority Whip Tom Delay (Republican--Texas), chair of the Resources Committee Don Young (Republican--Alaska), and Sonny Bono (Republican--California). --- Source: some lib site
The Democrats effectively got rid of Trent Lott with more bogus charges than this. Is DeLay going to have to resign or retire?
FYI..just checkig the "political Oddsmaker"..currently, only 9 Dems are favored to win Texas House seats..and as an added bonus..Marty Frost is running way behind..
I've GOT it. Check this quote from today's Salon: "It was Kerry's one burst of hot lead -- a fiery putdown directed at chicken hawk Tom DeLay for impugning his patriotism -- that brought his campaign the biggest injection of Dean-like Internet donations so far. The message, again, could not be more clear for Kerry and the Democratic presidential pack ...Anti-Bush voters want a fighter..."
The answer is Tom DeLay. He's the bogeyman. He's Newt Gingrich only worse. Every minute we're not whaling on Bush, we should be characterizing DeLay as the personification of the Republican party.
From the same article:
"For years, we have suffered while right-wing bullies hijacked American politics and media -- persecuting a president for a consensual sex act; stealing the 2000 election; trashing the country's economy, environment and constitutional safeguards; handing the government over to the highest corporate bidders; deceiving the public into a bloody quagmire; and then brazenly smearing anyone who dared to criticize this orgy of dreadful leadership as un-American. "
That's who these guys are. And their leaders are George Bush and Tom DeLay. Now, at a certain point, you have to lay off Bush. You have to shake his hand and debate him face to face, and you have to maintain a minimum level of decorum, because that's what you'll want when you're President. But you can bash DeLay all day long. And if he says anything about it, he's whining. Better yet, he's playing right into our hands. So think about some talking points like these:
"When chickenhawks like Tom DeLay want to lead us into wars of choice, not neccesity, I'll be there to fight for our men and women in uniform."
"When "lawmakers" like Tom DeLay try to steal elections they can't win in a fair fight, I'll be there to stand up for the rights of voters."
"When Tom DeLay tries to rewrite environmental laws for his corporate masters, I'll be right up in his face, standing up for the rights of the American people."
DeLay calls himself "The Hammer." It's time to show him the meaning of the word.

Well said Cazart. I posted a similar strategy at:

This is finally a way Kerry can ignite some passion. The chickenhawk issue.

Cazart - Tom DeLay is even WORSE than Bush - You are absolutely right. Lay into Tom DeLay. He is on a mission from God to convert the Middle East. He has been meddling in Israel. I can't think of one positive thing to say about Tom DeLay. Bush at least can be said to be a puppet.

I totally agree with you Cazart! Thats why I get such a kick out of the whole concept of "Kerry is the Hammer!- Bush is a Nail!" I think it would really piss Delay off if Kerry managed to go national with it.Ha!ha!ha! Posted by: Laurie on September 3, 2003 02:41 PM
What?!

No troll, YOU are wrong. John Kerry is going to WIN and WIN BIG! Furthermore, I think that Tom Delay is a miserable little chickenhawk twerp who is going to need a big crying towel in 2004!

Sessions is pummelling Frosty on radio ads. I usually don't hear many of the local stuff, but I've heard some pretty effective sounding radio ads on Frosty.A class of 1st graders saying: "It's not a [lie/wrongdoing/whatever/fillintheblank] if you don't get caught" .....
FYI..just checkig the "political Oddsmaker"..currently, only 9 Dems are favored to win Texas House seats..and as an added bonus..Marty Frost is running way behind..Texas Democrats are quickly becoming an endangered species.

In a word, NO. Not even close.
Thanks!
The Houston Chronicle ran TWO stories today which read as if the Ethics Committee had read DeLay the riot act, and that he was a hair from being expelled from Congress.
The media will bash DeLay and the Republicans at any moment, they don't have to do anything.
Take this example from the LA Times: "Republicans Glad to Lose on Bill to Start New Draft"
