Israel backs off from Missile in Ambulance story

On Monday the Israeli ambassador to the UN demanded the resignation of Peter Hansen, the head of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, accusing him of complicity in terror.

However, the story began to unravel when the agency claimed that the object in the video was too thin and light to be a missile and that a militant would be more careful in handling a crude, homemade explosive device.

A day later the agency produced the driver of the ambulance in question, who said that the object was a rolled-up stretcher and his crew had been on an abortive call.

By Tuesday the controversial footage had been pulled from the Israel Defence Forces and Foreign Ministry websites and the Israeli security establishment was in disarray, with some anonymous "senior officials" briefing journalists that the UN's version was probably correct.

Officially, a defence forces spokesman would yesterday only say that "we are reviewing the analysis because of the questions asked".

Have to wait and see how this pans out. Israels reaction does seem to cast doubt on the missile idea...

Re: story at top-
Bummer if its cast into doubt. We know islamofascists are up to such; it would have been nice to have a bona fide video of the same.

Not to worry, though. Now Palestinian terrorists have figured out that the use of ambulances to carry arms, bazookas, missiles, what have you, is a really cool idea. Look for these ambulances in an Israeli shopping mall soon.

i dont know, ive yet to be convinced by some of these videos ive seen. there was some debate here about that one where the gunman drags that arab kid across the street recently... i didnt find that video to be as clear cut as some argued. now im finding that analysis i trusted (that this was a missile) is cast into doubt. if it turns out to be a stretcher then israel really needs to be more careful or risk losing credibility.

As an error in Israel's part, it is pretty shocking considering their track record and they might need to fire the CIA advisor who helped em out ;).

Still, missile or no- what about other arms?
