Did you ever see that "Curse of the Bambino" special (on HBO, I think)? It suggested that many Sox fans wouldn't know how to psychologically handle a World Series victory (especially if it came after beating the Yanks for the pennant) and would likely fall into a deep depression after a (very) brief period of indescribable elation. This would be the result of the 85 year losing streak (and the way the team loses) having become such an intregal part of Sox fans' consciousness that losing it would be like losing a part of themselves. The identification is that strong.

Fortunately we're never going to find out ;)

This is the kind of BS that is said about the Red Sox fans by people who actually don't understand Red Sox fans. In the words of the Sportsguy Bill Simmons:

"Red Sox fans don't define themselves by the fact that the team hasn't won the World Series since World War I. We're defined by the fact that the team hasn't won the World Series since World War I. There's a difference. We hate hearing about the (rhymes with "schmurse"), we bristle at every "19*8" reference ... we just want to reach a point where nobody brings this stuff up anymore. It amazes me how many people don't understand that. All we ever wanted was to be "Just Another Team That Won the World Series Recently."

There's no curse, Dan Shaughnessy.

I see that Shaughnessy has revised his "Curse of the Bambino" book, just in time for the post-season. I just want to know how he keeps a job -- I know a lot of Red Sox fans online, and I've yet to meet anyone who actually likes him!

& IF the "Sox" "Win It All," they WILL be "One of the Greatest Teams of All Time!!"

The Competition isn't exactly "Vanilla!!"

But, Then, No Matter WHAT the "Sox" Do,; There can be NO Accomplishment of the "Sox" EQUIVALENT TO ANY "Accomplishment" of the "Yankees'!"

If the Red Sox Win the "World Series;" it will NEVER Be as "Good As" ANY Number of Previous Yankee Wins!!

" their fans will walk around with a big woody and act as if their team is the greatest franchise in baseball history. "

Kind of sounds like Yankee fans to me .....

The big difference is that Yankee fans have with 28 world championships to back up their bravado. Unfortunately, there won't be a 29th this year.

I agree it's farfetched, but The Curse often goes a long way to do some mighty painful things to Red Sox fans.

(See how the Astros are still alive?)

What do John Kerry and the Red Sux have in common?

They are both losers with delusional fan bases.
