Sentencing should be fitting to the crime. Obviously this guy is unstable. But killing a dog should not put him away for life. 3 strikes? If we sentenced according to the crime in the first place, we would not be concerned so much with "repeat felons".
This guy does not need prison, he apparently needs a mental hospital.
I support three strikes and you are out...I also think one strike is enough...You have not even addressed anything to do with the article itself you just went off on some rant bassed on your belief...that's fine but it has nothing to do with the article....And every comment since then is more of the same....He is NOT being sent to jail for life because he only killed a dog...He is being sent to jail for life because he committed another violent act AFTER HE COMMITTED TWO PREIOUS VIOLENT FELONIES...do you get it yet???
You stilll don't iunderstand and since you don't live in this state why are you bothering to make ridiculous comments....Fact of the matter is that the three strikes law has been very effective you must be a bleeding heart lawyer cause those are the only people I know who don't approve of the three strikes law...Interestingly enough you want us to have Christian compassion for this man and after all his crime isn't all that bad...well he got his compassion when he was allowed out of jail the last time...Since he cann't comport himself by society's rules it is time for him to live elsewhere...and since I would guess that you won't take him into your home then I recommend the pen forever
News 1992:
In November of 1993, Jeffrey David Mann was convicted of Angelas murder and sentenced to 15 years to life. He will be eligible for parole in 2004.
Jeffrey David Mann commanded his pit bull to brutally and repeatedly attack Angela Dolly Dennise Kaplan
I agree with you, Mann got off way too light. I still think the 2 time loser who tortured and killed his dog deserves prison time and not time in a mental hospital. He was found to be sane even though his attorney's claimed he suffers from schizophrenia and delusions.
Mental hospitals are notorious for stabilizing a patient and releasing him back into the general public. Many people with schizophrenia quit taking their medication because they don't like the side affects or the disease itself tells them they don't need the meds. He can't be forced to take his medications. I wonder why he was only diagnosed with his mental illnesses after he tortured and killed the dog. Why not the other 2 times he broke the law?
The guy got 25 years because of the three strikes law. If it had been his first offense he would have faced a max of 6 years. He's a repeat offender. If he's always been diagnosed with mental illness, he's chosen not to take his medication.
I don't want this man living next door to me. If he can beat his dog, stab it with a piece of wood and then behead it because he's mad at his girlfriend, what happens when he gets mad at me for some reason? Especially considering his previous 2 convictions.
With this post, I finally see where you're coming from and I agree with what you've written in this post.
Yes, those who are opposed to the war in Iraq may not condemn those who beheaded the Americans and the Brit. Their rationale is, if we weren't there in the first place these people wouldn't be kidnapped and so wouldn't be beheaded. They see these evil people as resistance fighters who are fighting for what they believe in.
Unfortunately I believe you err in your premise that if these evil people tortured/killed a dog that it would energize the world to become involved.
Obviously you need to read more of my posts. Your comments don't follow for what I've written.
