Heinz Kerry swings through Eugene
Register Guard ^ | October 8, 2004 | Matt Cooper

Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of presidential hopeful Sen. John Kerry, attacked the Bush administration on all fronts Thursday during a speech to 1,100 mostly Democratic supporters at the McDonald Theatre downtown. Bush-Cheney supporters in the crowd chanted "four more years, four more years" at the start of Heinz Kerry's speech.

The first such group - five or six men and women in their early 20s - left without incident, theater operator Kit Kesey said. The second group - three men - scuffled briefly with the crowd and were being pushed toward an exit when police escorted them out. Police made no arrests, but Anthony Edward Warren, a University of Oregon student and apparent Bush supporter, told police he was hit over the head and dragged toward an exit, police spokeswoman Kerry Delf said. Security removed Warren, 21, but he was unsure who had allegedly harassed him. Police are investigating.

Warren, an intern for Republican 4th Congressional District candidate Jim Feldkamp, did not return a phone call Thursday night. But he said he suffered bruises and minor injuries, in a statement released by Feldkamp's office.

"I was absolutely swarmed and completely bombarded," Warren said. "And I was forcibly removed against my will. A flier for the event said it was free and open to the public, unless you're a Republican. Then you get assaulted."

I'm a member of the University of Oregon College Republicans (and a new freeper-be nice! lol), and I was about 5 feet away from the fight that broke out. Of course, the Register Guard is trying to downplay what really went on.

After Anthony took out his sign and started chanting "four more years", he was jumped. He had his sunglasses and necklace broken, he was punched four times, and several people tried to drag him to the ground. By the time he was able to get out, he was bleeding and had a headache. We later found out that he did suffer a concussion and severe head and neck trauma-that's exactly what the hospital said, regardless of what they're reporting.

And guess what the cops did? Nothing! They didn't take a report, and only "talked" to two of the men who attacked us, then (as far as I know), let them back in. When we moved to a street corner, a woman punched a man standing near us (not a member of our group), spit on him, and then walked off. Again, a policeman across the street merely stood, and refused to cross the street to stand next to us.

When I tried to file a complaint with the cops, I was told that they’d “pass my concerns along”, but I got the impression a report hadn’t been filed-the woman I spoke to said she didn’t know what I wanted her to do (I called the person in charge of civilian complaints I said I wanted to file a complaint!). However, I was told that just because police were in the vicinity, didn’t mean that I was guaranteed any measure of safety-their presence was a deterrent only, and that cops are assigned areas that they are to stay in unless there’s a problem (this isn’t a problem!?!).

I’ve already sent this along to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michael Medved and Hugh Hewitt-hopefully someone will pick this up. I just find it very telling about the Democratic Party-they certainly are rabid, for such a “diverse” and “tolerant” party!

Eugene, yikes, ...the belly of the beast. This doesn't surprise me. Oregon Dims seem to all be of the rabid, foaming at the mouth variety. Just thank your lucky stars they didn't bite you. You'd probably get rabies.

Democrats are the stormtroopers of today. The brown shirts. Socialists, as much as they say otherwise, may not be for the violence of war, but are all for violence as a means to create change when they don't get what they want from the democratic process. In essence they don't believe in democracy. It is a means to an end. That end being the little politically correct dream world they have concocted in their petty minds.

Of course violence is wrong if its the police using it against them. This is the exact pattern carried about by Hitler's National Socialists. They used violence and intimidation. Yes, they were elected legally into power, but the meas they used included violence. The democratic process was just a tool. They soon abolished it and created the Reich in its stead.

Thanks-actually, I grew up here. Well, Veneta (about 10 miles away)...but still. We're actually gaining ground-at the UO, my class is 3 to 1 Republicans (so the school says...who knows!).

Who's Eugene, and why is Teresa swinging through him?

Who's Eugene, and why is Teresa swinging through him? Actually, I think she looks like she may "swing" the other way!

Venata? Isn't that where the Country Fair is held?

My son went years ago and many bare breasted young ladies.

I stopped at the Shell gas station a couple of months ago, coming back from Peace Harmony Hosp., and the attendant/cashier fumed at how the young ladies wander out of the fair into public where her kids had to witness the nudity ticked her off.

My son enjoys visiting the off campus area when he goes to Peace Harmony.

The bookstore puts out conservative as well a liberal books on display.

It is not as hippie like as it was when we moved to Oregon 15 years ago.

Or so it seems.

No, it's definitely getting better. We have a new police chief who's bent on getting the fair cleaned up, and he's been doing a pretty good job of it. I've never gone, myself, but I hear there's still plenty of nudity and crack to go around...to be fair, however, it isn't nearly as widespread as it used to be. And the UO has gotten in trouble for being so liberal, and is making an effort...even if it is forced, it's a start.

Your problem is you aren't a tree...or some other object revered by liberal scum at the expense of valuing human beings. Welcome to FR.

Thanks! And I know...people in my classes even had the nerve to tell me that Anthony deserved what he got...mind boggling, isn't it?
