Democrats Worried About Inroads Made by Republicans in Jewish Vote
The Sun-Sentinel ^ | October 11 2004 | Anthony Man

Jewish Democratic leaders in Palm Beach County are worried.

They are increasingly concerned that Republicans and the Bush administration have done such a good job of marketing themselves to Jewish voters that the once-reliable bloc of Democratic votes could go in a big way toward the president's re-election.

With 22 days until Election Day, Democrats are scrambling to undo gains Republicans have made among Jews.

"It's a very big problem," said Sylvia Wolfe-Herman, a vice president of the United South County Democratic Club. "We no longer have the bloc vote."

The situation has attracted the attention of John Kerry's presidential campaign, which has deployed Charles Glick, from the Democrat's home state of Massachusetts, to serve as director of Jewish outreach for South Florida.

"The Republicans have made major inroads with respect to Jewish voters," he told Democrats at a Palm Beach County party meeting last week. "If they get 40 percent, it would be devastating. If they get 30 percent they could win the election. We need to keep them under 20 percent."

Sid Dinerstein predicted President Bush would take one-third of the Jewish vote in Palm Beach County. He's the chairman of the county Republican Party, and for year's he's been pushing Bush to Jewish voters.

He said the Democrats have reason to be concerned, and said it involves far more than his party's and the president's ability to market themselves.

>> "We no longer have the bloc vote."

You should be ashamed you ever had it and voted like so many brainless sheep.

This prospect has Democrats more terrified than the possibility of another terrorist attack.

Democrats would rather win the election than win the war.

Praise the LORD and may he open the eyes of the Jews.

This contradicts a dozen other articles that state the Jews are going for Kerry in a fairly solid block.

According to my parents, who live in a largely Jewish community in Boca Raton (the buckle of the Palm Beach "Bagel Belt"), their neighbors are overwhelmingly voting for Kerry.

Contrary to what many deluded fools here think, secular Jews (and in South Florida, the population is elderly and VERY secular) put domestic liberal issues way ahead of Israel in terms of their voting priorities. That's the way it is.

The Jews will vote as they always do.

Better to focus on the more sensible segments of the Hispanic community ... not by pandering, but by reaching out.

Yeah, I'll believe we've truly made dramatic inroads when the results come in on Nov. 2nd.

Charles Glick is also head of outreach for Kerry among Jews.

A good first step would be to say that they'd close down the borders and deport all illegals that are found; the Hispanic community has always overwhelmingly supported that in every impartial poll ever published. Even if they didn't do that, moving felony deported illegals who are gang members into the priority list for deportation would be one heck of a great first step.

But hey, instead the outreach is in Spanish, pandering to anchor children who are looking for a free ride for their parents.

My take is that the Republicans and Bush haven't done anything in particular to sway Jewish voters their way. Instead it has been the Democrats or liberals in general who have done the most to sway Jewish voters to flee.

Big difference.

Meaningless. Jews are overewhelmingly voting for Kerry. Any other scenario is delusional.

Today, Kerry will allege that Jews will be blocked from voting.

Actually, this says quite a lot about the Democrat mindset. They expect people to vote as blocs. No one is allowed to deviate from groupthink.
