DANCING THREADS AND OTHER STUFF(VANITY!)
Uh???

In an effort to stabilize loading threads, I have taken it upon myself to once again reiterate the proper procedure for posting pics. PUT THE DIMENSIONS(width and height attributes) IN THE IMG SRC HTML! Ahem, when you right click to get the properties for the pic, the attribute box also gives you the dimensions; wonder why? A typical IMG SRC link will look something like this:
<img src="PIC ADDRESS" width="xxx" height="xxx" >
Simple, huh? It's not difficult, so there may be some laziness going around???
Another pet peeve. I know some computers have the right click function disabled, so this is not necessarily for youse guys. BUT, for those that have the ability to copy and paste, is there any excuse for NOT including(in italics or otherwise) the pertinent part of the post you are replying to? It's frustrating occasionally to read a reply that doesn't make a whole lot of sense standing alone, ie, without the context of the "replied to" post.
That's it; carry on.

A "live" demo:

would work better posted like this:

Putting in the dimensions reserves spaces for the images, so as soon as you load a page, it will be the correct height, even if the images aren't done loading yet. If you don't add the dimensions, then when you first load a page, it will be shorter than it should be, and when you start loading a particular image, the page height will grow to accommodate it, causing the jump effect. I'm not particularly bothered by it, but I guess some people would prefer no jumping.

Guess what? Those tags only control the size of the image that is displayed - it has ZERO impact on the size of the original file - so the file will have to load at it's original size to be re-displayed at the modified sizes.

...but I guess some people would prefer no jumping. Much more noticable when responding to a ping, say to reply #847 in a thread. Particularly if there are a lot of graphics on the thread. And as often as not, when the thread finally settles down, it doesn't end up where it's supposed to.
Now, I could stop loading the thread, read the post, then resume loading the thread, but the point being, there is a right and wrong way do do such things.

Cats don't dance. Hmmph! Maybe your cats don't dance but mine sure do! One of my cats has gotten to be quite proficient at waltzing with my dog. The other cat loves to salsa dance all over our bed and us as soon as the alarm clock goes off.

Addendum: If you specify only height or width, the HTML apparently automatically preserves the aspect ratio of the photo. It's more reliable to specify only one.
For single photos, specify width.
For multiple side-by-side photos, it's better to specify height.
If you specify both, you stand a chance of doing this:

I have only used the dimensions if I wanted to alter the size (proportional) of a pic. You seem to imply that if I wished to post a pic without changing dimentions, I should enter the h/w dimension code anyway. I'm unfamiliar that would make a difference in loading times. But if true, you should argue that more. As a vanity goes, your's ain't bad, on second thought. Just so many of them lately. And all those "poll" threads! Cheers.

I'm unfamiliar that would make a difference in loading times. But if true, you should argue that more. I don't think it really makes any meaningful difference in load time, it just creates nervous threads when there are some graphics on it......the more there are, the worse it gets.

There's really not much to wait out for me on a DSL connection.
It seems waht you are asking is for everyone else here to do something to accomodate you, and perhaps a small minority of others. What does that sound like to you?

And until recently, within the last year, say, it wasn't a big deal. Are you a lazy poster? Maybe you should ask either of the JR's what they would prefer if you don't like my take on it?
