Lynne Cheney Responds to Kerry's Remarks After Debate
Vice President's Wife Accuses Kerry of 'Tawdry Political Trick' in Mentioning Mary Cheney's Homosexuality
By Michael Laris Washington Post Staff Writer Wednesday, October 13, 2004; 11:42 PM
MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa., Oct. 13 -- Lynne V. Cheney, wife of Vice President Cheney, accused John F. Kerry Wednesday night of "a cheap and tawdry political trick" and said he "is not a good man" after he brought up their daughter's homosexuality at the final presidential debate.
Mary Cheney, one of the vice president's two daughters and an official of the Bush-Cheney campaign, has been open about her lesbian status. The candidates were asked if they believe homosexuality is a choice, and Bush did not mention Mary Cheney. Then Kerry said, "If you were to talk to Dick Cheney's daughter, who is a lesbian, she would tell you that she's being who she was, she's being who she was born as."[snip]

...Lynne Cheney issued her post-debate rebuke to a cheering crowd outside Pittsburgh. "The only thing I can conclude is he is not a good man. I'm speaking as a mom," she said. "What a cheap and tawdry political trick."....'
For those who might be curious, "Moon Township" is the area around the Pittsburgh airport. Hotel row, and all that.
As good a summation as any.
I am starting to think this is going to be seen as the big gaffe of the debates.
Dems have no class, plain-n-simple: Laura vs. Teresa. Need I say more?
a very very low blow in my opinion, it was utterly classless and it just underscores the point that Kerry will say anything he feels will be beneficial to him in the polls. Although I was appalled by the remark I can not say I am surprised
Well, it was a cheap and tawdry political trick. Even Dick Morris was explicit in what a bad idea it was. (And who better to comment on cheap and tawdry?)
"If you were to talk to Dick Cheney's daughter, who is a lesbian, she would tell you that John Kerry is a miserable son of a bit**."
"If you were to talk to Dick Cheney's daughter, who is a lesbian, she would tell you that John Kerry is a miserable son of a bit**."
Mort was pissed on Fox and he is pretty calm.
This is the 4th night in a row the WP has written an article damning the Kerry campaign. I've got my tinfoil hat strapped on tight now. I honestly believe they are trying to throw the election to Bush to set up Hillary in 2008.
I hope this is given more traction.
Cheney should give a pointed, yet very somber, speech letting Kerry have for using his family life as a political campaign prop.
If the slimey Kerry thinks this will hurt Bush-Cheney with religious Republicans, he obviously is out of touch with religious Republican. We all know and sympathize with the struggles our children go through and we know how to sympathize with others. Although I'm really religious, I have to say in honesty that Kerry is really a useless turd.
GOD, HOW COULD ANYONE WANT TO PUT SUCH A DEGENERATE REPROBATE IN THE WHITE HOUSE...WHAT THE HELL HAS HAPPENED TO THIS COUNTRY???....
Good for her. You could see it on Kerry's face as soon as he began to talk about Cheney's daughter---he knew he was screwing up. But he just couldn't stop himself. This is where the rubber meets the road, my friends, and we see John Kerry for the classless scumbag that he is. Throughout this entire contest, Kerry has continually lowered the bar on gentlemanly behavior. Tonight was "more of the same."
It was a cheap shot that was meant to show "understanding and compassion." All it really showed was Kerry's real character, or rather, lack of it.
Try, "He is a low life", Ruth.
Now, that is eloquent!!
Kerry goes for the opponent's family. Actually drags them into the debate! I do believe he's crossed a line here that's never been crossed.
This one almost surprises me.
