Actually...

If it is an unregistered full-auto, it is illegal for him to own. Period.

If it is a registered full-auto, which is extremely doubtful, unless he registered in in 1986 anmesty after the passage of NFA '86, and he has a MA Machine Gun License (which does exist, BTW. I have one) it is not only legal, but does not fall under Boston's homerule law against the ownership of "assault weapons" as that law was specific only to semi-auto rifles.

If it is converted to semi-auto, it is illegal in Boston, but not elsewhere in MA.

If it has been made inert -- the most likely case -- it is legal.

All of which prove that Kerry is a lying hypocrite.

Seems to me it's got to be a full auto AK (more likely a Chinese type 56 or 63).

The Chinese didn't tool up semi-auto production for export until long after Kerry left Vietnam (did you hear he was in Vietnam? ;-) ).

The guy is just such a liar and hypocrite, it makes me ill.

We know he 'practiced' law.

Attorney's can't have a license like other occupations do. (Electrician, plumbing, etc.)

Licenses are issued by the state, and since an attorney will wind up in court against the state, it would fall under 'conflict of interest'.

So all they get is a liscence to 'practice'.

So an AK47...OK, any Kalishnakov-pattern weapon that looks vaguely scary... with a 30 round mag would be double-illegal. Triple-illegal in Boston.

Thanks for posting this...I thought the only bringbacks allowed with captured foreign made semi auto long guns and handguns did not know that de-milled full auto stuff could also be brought back
What has to be done to the weapon to de-mill it?...welding the barrel and action shut?

In come cases, the chamber and barrel were welded shut and the bolt was placed in battery and welded from the rear. In most cases if a magazine was presented the follower spring and follower were removed and scrapped and the magazine filled with lead.

In some cases the trigger mechanism was disassembled and the sear and hammer removed with remaining moving parts spot welded in place.

Normally, the work was accomplished so the weapon could be put back together with the outward appearance remaining intact. In any case every step was taken to insure that it would never chamber or fire another round.

There is no doubt that AK barrels went back to the states as lamp standards and such and weapons were shipped back piece by piece. However all outgoing mail was subject to customs inspection and many packages were opened for inspection. When contraband of any kind ws discovered it was not pleasent for the person who mailed it. A chargeable offense under the UCMJ.
