"Some alternative therapies bring a smile to my face. One of them is the "arthritis martini," that is, the gin-soaked raisin. Gin-soaked raisins are said to be effective for the relief of pain. Five or six raisins added to a small amount of gin and eating the raisins on a daily basis is said to provide significant relief. Now, raisins do contain anti-inflammatory chemicals; however, there's no evidence that it provides any significant pain relief." WILLIAM ARNOLD, MD, ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION (Story)

This could be my all-time favorite thread. I'm literally sitting here in non-stop laughter.

"Now, when I'm feeling a little low, I invite some of my girlfriends over, and we eat a plateful of 'Mama T's Special Brownies.' I like to start with the basic Alice B. Toklas recipe, but - here's the special thing - I soak the walnuts in 151 proof Rum!"

Well, now we all know why/where the inspiring comment "let them run naked" came from - must of been one extra raisin in the mix.

Might not cure the arthritis, but it ought to make you feel better.

Curative and Medicinal Properties

The high food value of raisins arises chiefly from their sugar content. They contain eight times more sugar then grapes. The sugar contained in raisins is of superior quality, like that of the grapes, as major portion of this sugar is formed by glucose and fruit sugar. As is well known, glucose produces quick heat and energy in the body. Raisins are thus an excellent food in all cases of debility and wasting diseases. They are also valuable during convalescence.

Hmmmmm...nothing in here about gin.

Careful. My mom does this and she's a voracious health reader. She's also a very intelligent lady.

Raisins for breakfast, raisins for lunch, raisins for dinner, and for desert - Rum Raisin Ice Cream

Now everyone say Rum Raisin 10 times real fast.

"I never saw a raisin I didn't eat".

Not if my wife finds out! I might then need the Gin and Raisin cure for the headache and removal of the frying pan from the back of my skull

She'll be out in public loaded to the gills, rambling about paying Kerry's bills and hiring nothing but outrageous gay men to run her office. Can't you see her piling down the stairs during a State Dinner and insisting someone moved the staircase? Dropping an F bomb when receiving the Queen of England. Telling Larry King that she rarely sees VP John Edward's wife because she is always "under a bridge scaring billy goats". Asking Vincente Fox if he had any trouble getting across the border. Asking the Prime Minster of Ghana to "fetch me another martini or go back to trimming the azaleas".

Not to mention the knock down dragout king daddy of all cage matches between her and Hillary as Hillary prepares for the 2008 primary.
It would make the 4 years bearable.

My mother does this and she swears by it. It was funny when she first started. Not wanting to be seen anywhere NEAR a liquor store, she would send me to go get it for her. When I moved to a different town, Dad became her 'enabler,' LOL.

I can't stand the taste of gin and she doesn't drink at all. I'll stick to my Glyco-Flex Plus, thank you. I keep the pills in the fridge to tone down the fishy taste. The stuff works wonders on my arthritic knees.

Bee stings are not a folk remedy - they do work on arthritis and other joint problemns. Rasins soaked in alcohol are just plain dumb though. The casual observer would learn that Terry Kerry is only a cash cow for John "the suit" Forbes Kere. What other use does she have?

"soak them in the gin for two weeks. Then throw away the damn raisins and drink the gin..."

Maybe she meant to say the gin is to forget the arthritis and the white raisins were for the hangover from the gin but blurted it out after the gin.
