Creepy or not the function is there and I use it as do many others.

In my very own personal and humble opinion--- crap like this needs to be handled by hitting the abuse button. We have a pretty good system set up to deal with trolls and disruptors.

I have never hit the abuse button once. I asked this poster a question to find out more about him/her. I got no reply. If no one else sees a problem then there is no problem. I've helped out quite a few trolls but I leave it to others to ping abuse. Like it or not that's how I am.

I haven't been posting much in the last 2 weeks, and I find this matter insignificant. So I won't say much.

Your sensible posts speak for themselves.

So does the attitude expressed in some others' posts.

From the transcript of the Obama/Keyes debate, I see that Alan is doing fine work giving a reasonable and in depth justification for the Bush policy in International affairs, especially with regard to the war in Iraq.

No one I know, certainly none of Alan's friends, is spreading paraniod claims that this campaign audit is to be blamed on the President or his political advisors. The President's people could have no interest in hurting the party's candidate in Illinois. Those who publicize it, and exaggerate its significance should examine their own motives.

Election day is close, and we should all be closing ranks for the final battles. I think that Kerry and his party, including Obama, are a threat to our Republic and, indeed, to our civilization. I intend to help avert that threat by all I say and do.

Cheers,

Richard F.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Keyes FEC Report Shows $1.1 Million Cash on Hand

More than 20,000 individual contributors fuel grass-roots campaign

(CHICAGO, OCTOBER 15) – Keyes 2004 campaign manager Bill Pascoe today released the campaign's third-quarter report to the Federal Election Commission, and issued the following statement:

"As this FEC report shows, Alan Keyes has broad-based support from the grass roots all over Illinois, and, in fact, America. Given that Alan stands for the kind of traditional, common-sense values shared by the majority of voters here in America's heartland, that makes perfect sense.

"In just seven weeks, our campaign raised $1,349,679.83 from 20,176 individual contributors and five – count 'em, five – PACs and political party committees. The individual contributions accounted for $1,309,015.83 – a stunning 97 percent. And when you divide the total amount contributed by the number of contributions, you learn that our average contribution was a remarkably low $65.04, more evidence of a true grass-roots campaign.

"Contrast that with Barack Obama, who's been vacuuming up money from every special interest group you can name, and the difference couldn't be clearer: Alan Keyes is the candidate who believes there's no interest more special than the citizens of Illinois, while Barack Obama seems to be the candidate wearing a 'For Sale' sign on his back.

"Moreover, our campaign only spent $222,962.32, leaving us with $1,127,318.84 cash on hand. As the campaign enters its closing weeks, and voters finally begin to tune in, we will have the financial resources necessary to spread Alan's message when it counts. Illinois voters will have a clear choice in this election: they can choose a candidate who agrees with them on fundamental principles like a strong national defense, limited government, greater individual liberty, and traditional moral values, or they can choose a man funded by the special interests, who wants to raise taxes to fuel more and more wasteful Big Government spending programs."

If I may be so bold, I think "they all do it" should be understood in the following context:

The FEC rules and procedures are such an insane mess that virtually every campaign fails on one point or another - not intentionally, just by not being able to decipher what to do and not do.

This may or may not be the case with Keyes' campaign, but certainly, unless one wants to presume that all the scores of folks who have been fined over the years are ALL duplicitous (and like dole or not, I don't think he is in this regard), it indicates the ability to give the man the benefit of a doubt (hard as that may be for some folks around here who'd like nothing better than the aroma of blood in the water).

Beyond that, there's the obvious fact that if it take more than one full time staffer on most campaigns (and it does) to keep up with FEC compliance, it's a sure bet NO candidate is personally making decisions on a daily basis about what donations to accept or reject. The Captain is responsible for his crew, but he doesn't know everything that goes on during the course of campaigning. Even if all this were true in it's worst implication, all it would mean is that Keyes had some bad staffer or two screwing up.

I'm sure someone has already called you on the error in your poor attempt at humor, but Keyes drew no salary during the 2000 campaign.

Thanks for playingthough, here's a copy of our home game.

I asked this poster a question to find out more about him/her. I got no reply.

What question? You made a statement in your earlier post.

You have an interesting posting history.

That's not a question. That's a statement.

Anyway, what exactly did you want to know?

To be as brief and respectful as I can be:

There are other possibilities than the ones you suggest.

Well, #19 implied sinkspur thinks Keyes believes he's "the reincarnation of Moses". Where is he getting that idea from?

Moses was just a man God used. I do see how that quite clearly applies to Keyes as well. :-)

P.S. I sincerely hope your great new future for the State of Illinois does not include a Senator Obama.

I'm actually still not *exactly* sure what Amelia is "suggesting" anyway?

Maybe she'll just be honest enough to spit it out.
