Ad homonym attacks are not very effective at changing people's minds. They might make the one delivering them feel like at least they've done something, but they don't work very well. Say Kerry lies & you'll find someone accusing you of getting defensive, meaning there is a smidgen of truth to the false claims.
Instead, draw out the logic in the outrageous claim & allow your audience to draw their own conclusion. Another thing you can do is react as though it's the most foolish thing you ever heard, to the point of being funny.
