Are you ready to play,
WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE, the 2004 Election Edition

For $100, How many laws that get passed are “permissive” (giving people freedom to do something if they wish) and how many are “restrictive” (requiring performance or forbidding it)?
A. Most laws are permissive, because America is the Land of the Free
B. Most laws are restrictive, because government is only interested in making us behave, speak, and believe as they want us to
C. It’s about 50-50
D. Most laws are permissive, because after 200 years of passing restrictive laws in 50 states and in the federal government, there can’t be much left to restrict

For $200, Was the Iraq War a “War for Oil” and a “War to find WMD’s”?
A. Yes, because there are so many new WMD’s and Iraqi Oil flooding our markets
B. Yes, because Dan Rather said so
C. No, because oil prices have risen and Saddam never used WMD’s on anyone
D. No, because it was a war to oust a brutal dictator and liberate 25 million people

For $500, Whose military service has been more impressive?
A. John F. Kerry, because he has several medals in less than one year of total service
B. John F. Kerry, because he denounced the soldiers after he went home early
C. George W. Bush, because he served for several years and exceeded the service requirements for most of those years
D. George W. Bush, because he commanded the US troops in the fastest and most efficient major military campaign in history

For $1000, What is the best way to respond to Iran’s demand for nuclear facilities?
A. Give them enriched uranium, and make them agree to use it for energy, not weapons, just like Bill Clinton did with North Korea
B. Give them enriched uranium, and make them agree to use it for energy, not weapons, or else you’ll tell the UN Security Council on them, like the EU is now doing
C. Tell them that any nuclear weapons facilities that are built will be destroyed, as the Israelis did in Iraq in 1981
D. Surround them with Democratic regimes in Iraq and Afghanistan, while 50% of their population demands democratic reforms and threaten to overthrow the theocratic regime of the Mullahs

For $2000, What is the best way to increase revenues to fund critical federal programs?
A. Raise taxes, but target the most productive financial entities so that they will be less productive
B. Eliminate less effective or productive programs like the Department of Education and funding for NPR, the arts, and subsidizing farmers to not grow crops
C. Lower taxes, especially on the most productive financial entities, so that they can create jobs, wealth, and revenues, just as Kennedy and Reagan successfully did
D. Make the programs fund themselves

For $4000, What is the best way to lower violent crime rates?
A. Ban all guns, because guns are used in violent crimes and they hurt people
B. Ban all handguns, because it is working so well in Britain and Australia
C. Make it easier for every citizen to carry a concealed weapon, so that criminals do not know where the might safely harm others
D. Ban all weapons, including box cutters, because even though criminals ignore the laws against injuring others, they surely won’t ignore laws against inanimate objects

For $8000, What is the difference between a democracy and a federal republic?
A. A democracy is the best way to govern, just like the Federalist Papers said
B. A democracy is what we have now, and a republic is what every other country is
C. In a democracy every citizen votes on every issue, and in a republic citizens vote for representatives to do most of their voting on issues and laws
D. There is no difference, they are the same thing

For $16,000, What is the basic purpose of the American government?
A. To ensure, as much as possible, that every citizen’s rights are respected and protected, and that those who violate those rights be punished
B. To take care of the sick, elderly, and disadvantaged
C. To take from each person according to their ability to produce, and to give to each person, based on their needs
D. To gather more power, money, influence, and responsibilities at all times

For $32,000, What should we do with the Electoral College? A. Get rid of it, because the popular vote is all that matters
B. Get rid of it, because small states shouldn’t have much say in the Presidency anyway
C. Keep it, because it is what the Founders wanted
D. Keep it, because passing the Constitutional Amendments required to change the rule is too much of a hassle, and can easily lead to other major Constitutional changes

For $64,000, Which issues are federal, and which issues are to be left to the states?
A. Like John Kerry said in the debates, gay marriage is a state issue, even though abortion is a federal issue
B. Both gay marriage and abortion should be state issues, because the Bill of Rights says that anything not granted specifically in the Constitution should be left to the states.
C. Both should be federal issues, because abortion and homosexuality didn’t exist when the Founders wrote the Constitution
D. Gay marriage should be a federal issue, and abortion should be a state issue, because that way Republicans can advance their agenda more efficiently

For $125,000, Who is more likely to identify with the average American voter?
A. John Kerry, because he plays football at his several multi-million dollar homes and complains about SUV’s when he has several in the family garages.
B. George W. Bush, because his father was President and he owned a baseball team
C. John Kerry, because he will say whatever it takes to get elected, including insulting several world leaders while assuring us that he will build global coalitions
D. George W. Bush, because he will admit that his wife speaks the language better than he does

For $250,000, Why haven’t there been any terrorist attacks in the US since 9-11-01?
A. The terrorists do not hate us anymore
B. George Bush single-handedly took the fight to them, and now they attack prepared troops in Fallujah, rather than helpless shoppers in Midtown C. They are too busy attacking other non-Muslim cultures across the globe
D. Homeland Security has used the new rules to capture every one of them Which fictional character does John F. Kerry most resemble?

For $500,000, Who is more likely to nominate Supreme Court Justices that will retain a balanced court?
A. John Kerry, because Democrats have nominated two of the most liberal Justices on the current bench to show their idea of balance
B. George W. Bush, because Republicans have nominated two far-left, two centrist, and three conservative Justices on the current bench to show their idea of balance
C. John Kerry, because the Supreme Court should be packed with activist justices
D. George W. Bush, because Republicans can do no wrong

For $1,000,000 and America’s future, Who are you voting for on November 2, 2004?
A. John F. Kerry, because his policies are clearly stated and superior
B. Bruce Bartlett, because television always reveals our best path
C. George W. Bush, because he has done a good job, even in bad circumstances
D. None of the above, because no matter who is chosen, federal revenues go up

I had a fun morning typing this up off the top of my head... the really bad questions, like what fictional character does Kerry most resemble (Mr. Ed, Lurch, Pres Bartlett, Frankenstein), had to get scrapped once I passed 15 questions, LOL.

Sadly, some good ones got cut, too, mostly because I couldn't find a spectrum of good-to-bad answers... like:

What is the best way to help Americans right now?
A. Secure the borders with troops and volunteers, and send illegal immigrants home
B. Make it easier to fire bad cops and bad teachers
C. Pass Term Limits for every federal office, so that politics will be about what is best for America, and not what will get someone re-elected
D. Get the UN out of the US, and stop paying attention to their edicts. Just do what we should, with our without their approval

I welcome any additions, suggestions, and/or changes. If someone wants to use this in any way, feel free.

And, to be lawyerly, "This is only a game, I'm not giving out any money."

Bush was required to get 300 points for his time in the Guard.

He finished with 898.

He did MUCH MORE THAN REQUIRED EVERY YEAR.
