So we now see that the German government's refusal to send troops is due to political reasons. Its sad to see leaders feed the irrational beliefs of their populations. John Kerry by saying that he could get the French and Germans to send troops is essentially doing the same thing, garnering support among the naive in the US, playing on their fears to win the election. Fortunately this appears to be failing looking at the current polls.

The American people are too smart to let a Gigolo and an Ambulance Chaser from fooling them again. They learned their lesson from Slick Willie and Earth to Gore.

The Germans are hedging their bets. When Bush wins, they don’t want to be on the other/wrong side. They know Bush would slap them around even more if they suggested such a thing.

Kerry win ‘would not change German position'

I've got to hand it to the Krauts (I can call them that as about 50% of my forbearors
were KRAUTS).

The do have that wondrous mixture of integrity and hubris that keeps them from
being wise and dangling a promise of a small force for Iraq in order to
get a truly exploitable puppet President like Kerry in office.
