Flu Vaccine Crisis- Government Cure, or Government Problem?
various FR links | 10-17-04 | The Heavy Equipment Guy

Posted on 10/17/2004 3:05:16 AM PDT by backhoe

Shortage of flu shots was a long time coming (who's at fault?)
"If you want an example of a single payer health care system...take a look at the flue vaccine problem. The government guarantees a vaccine and now nobody can get one. The doctors ration it to the ones who they say need it most"

Fines, Jail Used to Enforce Flu Shot Rules   "It's a strong step," agreed Dr. Gregg Pane, acting director of the District of Columbia Department of Health, whose order took effect Friday. In Washington, violators could be fined up to $1,000, and Pane said the health department would investigate complaints.
This ruling is over the line. This is America, not old Russia. Not that I'd want to get a flu shot not believing they're effective, but it's wrong to fine people of any age not to have the freedom to get a shot if they wish.
The vaccine debacle is just a preview of coming attractions if the Democrats realize their plan to totally take over healthcare.

Kerry Ad Says Flu Vaccine Shortage Is Typical of Bush's Policy Blunders
Best article I've see so far on why the flu vaccine is not manufactured here anymore:

Price caps have driven vaccine makers out of business or out of the country. Bush has been fighting to remove price caps. Where has the Senate (John Kerry) been on this? FY2004 Budget and Vaccines - President Bush released his FY2004 Budget Proposal in early February 2003. The President’s proposal would expand the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program...

Elderly CA woman drops dead while waiting in line for flu shot. -- let Americans know what government healthcare under Skerry will be like. I've told people who have been complaining about this," You can thank Hillary Clinton for this mess. And if you think this is bad...wait untill you get Kerry's socialized medicine!"  This is exactly what the Clintons had in mind. A subservient populace, standing in line for government handouts.

This is an opportunity for the President and the Republicans. They need to drive the following points home:

1. Price controls, implemented by Hillary! and the Democrats have caused the majority of US vaccine manufacturers to abandon the US market. Kerry proposes putting price controls on all prescription drugs.

2. Relying on foreign sources for US drugs is inherently risky. The Brits left us high and dry, with no notice this year. Kerry proposes reducing costs by relying on foreign suppliers for all prescription drugs.

3. The shortage of vaccines means that the government will have to implement rationing schemes, deciding who will and will not get care. Kerry proposes putting the government in charge of rationing all medical care and prescription drugs.

4. Trial lawyers, junk science and frivolous lawsuits have made it impossible to produce vaccines in the United States. Kerry's VEEP pick is the poster boy for trial lawyers, junk science and frivolous lawsuits. Kerry is fighting all efforts at tort reform.

The Democrats are very vulnerable on all these points. Unless the President makes these points forcefully, he will wind up bearing the burden by default. The President needs to make sure people know that this flu vaccine shortage is nothing but a Preview of Coming Attractions if John F. Kerry is elected President.

Good morning. You da man. You have nailed this and the Newsmax article from 2003 is chilling isn't it? Have you put on here who appointed the current heads of the CDC and NIH and FDA? And/or who they support politically? Might be interesting reading.....

Yes, indeed- one nice thing about the New Media is the ability to find some of the older stuff to drive home a point. The Old Media has a curious habit of forgetting stuff.

Yes - another thing that will be "shut down" in addition to vaccinations programs......if the Hillary / Skerry team take power.

I did a fast check on the lady running CDC and I believe the guy running NIH - both Clinton appointees and/or Democratic party supporters. The FDA guy - not sure - could not find info - he is acting head of that agency. But it is the CDC and NIH who have the most power in this event.

The flu shots have been controversial. Some swear by them and some have had negative results. They do have the advantage of providing a preview of the wisdom of letting Big Brother decide your daily health care decisions.

One size fits all. Important decisions are best left to the authorities. Jail time for you buddy, if you don't comply. We are here to help you if you are grateful, if not, die and get out of our hair. Socialized medicine is in your future, you have no choice. Everybody hates us because we have so much freedom. Everybody needs a mental health examination, which I have proposed in my new buget for Medicare

Any similarity between this and the Founding Fathers vision of America is strictly coincidental, believe me!!!!

An excellent synopsis of our future under Kerry.

I personally do not like being forced to get a flu shot. But, my job requires it.

All of those I work with are healthy adults that are not likely to die without a shot.
Easy fix to me. Let the military go without the shots if they are healthy. Let those shots go to the elderly and young who might have a problem.

A simple solution to the flu vaccine would just to pray that the people who are most vulnerable will be protected in a supernatural way.

November 3 the first thing the President should do, after a victory breakfast with Laura, is to fire every single Clinton appointee left in the Government. Don't worry about replacements yet. This would proundly be addition by subtraction.

>>The flu shots have been controversial. Some swear by them and some have had negative results. They do have the advantage of providing a preview of the wisdom of letting Big Brother decide your daily health care decisions.<<

Amen!
I will never get a flu shot again after last year. I went to my girls pediatrician for my four year old's check up. While there, she told the story of a five year old patient she had that died from flu. They were encouraging flu shots for the entire family, and selling them to the adults for 20 bucks. Being the mom I am, I took the shot and told them that I would send Daddy in with the girls for theirs. (Both girls were hysterical about a shot).

WELL, from that day, for about a month, I was sick. No one else in the house was sick and needless to say no one else got that shot. One day my eyes were weeping so badly I had to call my hubby to pick my daughter up from school.

Years ago, I had a vet who told me not to get shots for my indoor cat. He was not exposed to any other cat so why dump the chemicals into him. The cat lived to be 20. Not that I would risk missing the MMR or DPT with my kids, I'd rather be diligent about hand washing, eat well, exercise, take extra C and forget the flu shot!!!

I'll leave it to the seniors who get it.

Kerry Opposes The HEALTH Act Of 2003, Which Would Encourage Vaccine Production. The HEALTH Act of 2003, which President Bush supports but Kerry opposes, contains a provision immunizing vaccine manufacturers from punitive damages for products that are approved as safe by the FDA. Because profit margins on vaccines are low, such a provision is critical to encouraging the development and manufacture of vaccines. (H.R. 5, The HEALTH Act of 2003, Section 7; Business Week, "Biotech's Babies," 1/14/04)

You do realize that if President Bush wins on Nov 2, the Dems already are planning to challenge the election results in the courts -all over the country? I just heard this (again) this morning mentioned by a chief DNC strategist. The Republican strategist said - well he believed the American people wanted the election this time to be over on Nov 2.

Their 5 pronged attack is:

1. 527 - funded by Soros, Heinz, and multiple foreign and domestic liberal / globalist / communist / terrorist "friends" of Hill/Bill/Kerry.

2. Propaganda - MSM, DNC talking points hammered by every single Dem speaker (except for Zell Miller of course) and hit the internet "polls" and use their employed pollsters (ala Zogby)

3. Damage and / or destroy / and or otherwise intimidate all the Usual "legitimate" campaign tools - Repub HQ and Bush/Cheney signage.

4. Voter Fraud - Massive - unlike anything ever seen before.

5. Election challenge - again - Massive - making 2000 look like a picnic.

and, if all else fails - schedule another "hit" against this country and/or its leaders / families.....which is EXACTLY what the 911 attacks were all about.....the global mafia "hitting" America with the aim to take out our leadership.

Remember the Democratic party is a Terrorist organization!
