Yesterday, I drove by the welfare department in Bakersfield, California to see if anyone was registering voters there (as sometimes is the case). Sure enough, there was a democrat voter registration table.
Now, hold your fire on the location. In all fairness, we Republicans have sometimes registered voters at the welfare office, though with probably far less of a natural constituency.
Anyways, I parked, walked up, and listened to a woman I will refer to as "Rat-lady" as she attempted to register voters. A woman I will refer to as Maisha came over to the table to register to vote. (Maisha may have been an employee of the Dept.)
Maisha indicated that she wanted to register as an independent, but Rat-lady told Maisha that she had to register as a Democrat since Rat-lady was working for the Democrat party.
I spoke up and told Rat-lady that she was wrong. I said that I am a Republican who registers voters for the GOP, and that Maisha can register any way she wants to.
I told both of them that it's not legal for Rat-lady to tell anyone that they "have to" register as a Democrat.
Rat-lady told me to "quit telling me how to do my job".
I said, "But what you're doing is illegal and I can report you to the elections office." [Secretary of State, etc.]
Rat-lady told me to "have at it" (which I later did by leaving a message re the incident on the voice mail of an elections official in Bakersfield).
Sometime during our exchange, and only after I said Rat-lady was doing something illegal, Rat-lady indicated that Maisha can take the registration form with her and mail it herself. I think Maisha did this, but I'm not sure.
Keep in mind this was the last day to register in California in order to be able to vote in the upcoming election.
Maisha seemed very concerned that if she did not register as a democrat, then Rat-lady would not turn in the voter registration card on time (I mentioned that was a real possibility).
Maisha also indicated she might register as a Democrat for now (if she gave the card back to Rat-lady to turn in) so she would not miss the deadline, and be able to vote in the upcoming election.
Bottom line: Maisha seemed intimidated by a very coercive Democrat.
But that's not all. Consider this irony: During the course of our exchange, Rat-lady took a stab at Republicans (since I mentioned I did voter Registration for them) by mentioning the alleged Democat voter registrations that were trashed in Las Vegas.
I then mentioned the story I read about [someone with ties to the NAACP] the rats' allegedly paying for voter registration cards with crack cocaine.
Meanwhile, Maisha was starting to laugh at the whole exchange.
Now, folks, Maisha was a black lady. And the Rat-lady seemed to want to disenfranchise Maisha's right to register with the party of her choice, or to register as an independent if she so chooses.
Do you think Jesse Jackson will be coming to fight alongside me against the 'rats in Bakersfield?
Also, I would have offered to register Maisha myself, but i would have to go back to my car to get the forms, and it seemed that Maisha was kind of in a hurry.
I thought she may have been an employee of the welfare office on a 10 minute break or something, and she just wanted to get registered before the deadline, real quick.
Why am I not surprised?
I'd say there is a good chance Jesse the Jack___ will be coming. But it will be to stage a protest that a Republican dared to "interfere" with the registration of a Democrat. Makes no difference the woman wanted to register as an Independent. The Democrats have decided they have the right to register anyone as a Democrat, regardless of your wishes.
i saw this.
I wonder how many people have been intimidated into registering as a Democrat and in the process were turned off and will be voting Republican while skewing the polls towards Kerry. Enough I hope.
You spoke that long without being called a racist? WOW!
I'm really getting depressed. If the leftists get their way, it won't be too much longer before we become a bananna republic with sham elections.
Saddam would be proud of the election-manipulation efforts of American leftists. Is it any wonder that liberals in America defend facist dictatorships around the world? They are becoming indistinguishable from one another.
The only cure for this is to trash the changes that have promoted voter registration at places other than the voter registrar's office.
Betcha that after the election that Las Vegas voter registration story will be debunked. It smells fishy now.
"I wonder how many people have been intimidated into registering as a Democrat and in the process were turned off and will be voting Republican while skewing the polls towards Kerry. Enough I hope."
Excellent point. Maybe this explains why some of the numbers are so close.

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.
Her view of blacks is condescending, patronizing and totally disrespectful.
In that regard she best exemplifies her party's position.
Hey. It's always worked well for them with the "Graveyard Vote".
I have a question and this may sound silly but I guess I do not know the answer. Can't a person register as democrat and vote Republican? What difference does it make what party you affiliate your self with when you vote?
I have been called by 2 different pollsters this past month. Both times I lied and told them I would vote for Kerry :-)
I know of at least 3 other people who have done the same.
Nope.
Just like I don't see Jesse Jackson campaigning around Toledo over the Crack for Votes bombshell.
I think all the 'get out the vote' sh** should be stopped! If people don't care about America or their right to vote, then let them stay home! If they can't get off their a** to go register for themselves and get to the polls, then so be it. Let the informed vote.
In most states it determines which primary you can vote in.
Hey. It's always worked well for them with the "Graveyard Vote".
...illegals, convicted felons, drug addicts, derilicts living on the street..
With the Democrats, its quantity, with Republicans, its quality.
Good on you, tame.
Makes one wonder how often this type of intimidation took place up and down the state and even worse, how many of the acts went unchallenged.
It shows in the polls and it matters in most places for primarys
You did the right thing.
We're the Democratic Party and we approve of this message.
Of course you can. Registering as Dim or republican only affects primaries where you have to vote for which candidate of your party you want to run for election.
Good for you! Are you going to follow up on your call?
And how does anyone authenticate what your affiliation is if you appear at the polls during primaries? If one likes the president and has every intention of voting for him again would it not be fun to go and vote for Dean for example. I guess I still don't get it's significance?
How many people did she successfully dupe is what I wanna know...
If it was illegal, why didn't you call the cops? They could have come out and had a talk with her, and got some [bad] publicity for the Dems as well.
Not all illegal matters are police matters. they would have just told me there's nothing they can do, and then they would have referred me to the Secretary of State.
yes. i was not able to get her name, though. But i've seen her around, so if anyone cares it won't be difficult to ID her.
PERHAPS FREEPERS
WOULD WANT TO TAKE A PHOTO WITH THEIR CELL PHONES and, if possible get names etc. and then call the police and ask for an arrest.
Failing that, perhaps calling the local GOP and asking for someone to come and man a table for the other side.
I consider this a very serious violation of law but more important, now, a huge potential influence on a lot of idiot voters--which is the bigger problem, now.
Thanks for your intervention on this voter's behalf.
tha's creepy, (to say the least but fitting for 'rats)
and shields are righteous babes :o)
hehe I live in Bakersfield and used to work for Human Services as an Eligibility Worker. If the lady that wanted to register works there she is prolly sick of the handouts. I couldn't stand it anymore and quit.
This is an ecellent post and I think something else may be important for our efforts to get out the vote. I truly believe that there are a lot of people out here who have been bullied into registering as a Democrat. These people may also be under the impression that they have to vote Democrat because that's the way they registered.
Especially with younger voters and those who will be voting for the first time. I know when I was in college and went to vote, I was a little overwhelmed and would have easily been misguided by a person of seeming authority telling me some BS about the rules.
Get the word out that you can vote for anyone, regardless of your registration or party affiliation!!!
They are? ;o)
you've got mail.
JJ is too busy in Jacksonville Fl right now making sure that everyone knows no matter how much is done to improve voting methods etc, it will not make him happy!
"Jackson and Brown said the new sites and new elections office leadership won't make elections better, blistering the city's leadership in criticism painted with the memory of 27,000 invalidated votes in the 2000 election. Jackson compared the city's situation to his civil rights fights of the 1960s."

You said it!!!!

DemocRATs are barely viable people let alone honorable Americans...
Wow! I am shocked - - - shocked I tell you - - -!
I did something similar a couple of weeks ago. I work in Washington, DC, and live in Arlington, VA. I take Metro to and from work.
A couple of weeks ago, after I got off the subway train at the Pentagon City Metro Station, I noticed that there were several people, all wearing "Kerry/Edwards" t-shirts, holding clipboards, and shouting out to people, "Register Here to Vote!"
The thing was -- they were doing this on Metro's property. (The day I saw this it was raining very heavily, and the people who were wearing the Kerry t-shirts were standing outside the faregates of the station, but were still insdie the station.)
I went first to the Station Manager and asked if Metro allowed such activity on its property. He referred me to a rather muscular Metro Policeman nearby. I asked him if Metro allowed such activity on its property, and he said that Metro only allowed such activity near -- but not on -- its property. I then asked him to ask the people with the Kerry t-shirts to leave the station.
He did so, and as he did, I stood by to watch and see what would happen. They told him that they were within their rights -- one of the t-shirts even told him that she was an attorney, and knew what the law said, and that he had better back off.
The policeman remained polite, and pulled out a copy of what I assumed was Metro's policies on the matter. When he told them that they would need to go outside the station, I heard one of the t-shirts say, "But, it's raining!"
As I was standing observing this, one of the t-shirts came up to me and asked if she could help me. I told her that I was the person who had asked the policeman to enforce Metro's rules.
She told me that there were doing nothing wrong. I asked her how she might feel if she were to see a group of people wearing Bush-Cheney t-shirts attempting to register voters on Metro property. SHe told me that they would be in the wrong area of Virginia to do that.
Anyway, I finally left after I saw the band of t-shirts picking up their materials and leaving the station.
Righteous='in right standing with OUR LORD.'
The one i know are :o)
Thank you. ;o)
I'm glad you posted the rat-lady's actions. I'm also glad you're an active Republican lookin' out for the less than fortunate folks who are being scared by THE RAT PARTY. How despicable!!!
