Last week in St. Louis Missouri, a racially-charged pamphlet has been the latest attempt made by Democrats to win minority votes in the African-American community.
This is what they used to do to keep us from voting, proclaims the brochure, featuring a photo of a 1960s snapshot of a firefighter hosing a colored person.
Now Attorney General John Ashcroft is trying to prevent African Americans from voting at all. Dont let them do it again."
Missouri Democratic spokeswoman Sarah Howard insists she absolutely will not pull the flier.
This is an outrage. This year the attempts made by both parties to win votes have been nothing but a horrible election process for both parties. This flier is dirty politics at its best.
This is an attempt to get African American voters to vote for Sen. John Kerry by lying to them. They are showing voters how they were intimidated not to vote in the 1960s and telling them that the Republicans dont want them to participate in this years elction process. The fliers are simply misleading and have no basis in fact.
The local mayor simply advises voters, Not to be intimidated.
Trueblackman...have you seen this flier? As an African American, I was wondering your thoughts.
ping
When you have no issues that Americans support then you have to pull this type of crap. Democrats simply want the votes of any group they can scare.
I've changed my mind. There is something lower than whale poop.
Now Attorney General John Ashcroft is trying to prevent African Americans from voting at all.Uh, how exactly is FORMER MISSOURI GOVERNOR Ashcroft trying to keep black people from voting 'at all?'
Turn this around on them. Take that flier, make a commercial, and say 'The Democrats are trying to scare you. The Republican Party WANTS black people to vote, and it wants them to vote Republican-- the party that will offer them more than just fear.'
I'm almost surprised them Dems would want a racist spokeswoman talking to the press.
Well said.
I would point out that the guy holding the hose in the picture is most likely a segregationist democrat from those days.
Election nonsense
Will someone PLEASE tell me when and where intimidation and prevention of voting by LEGAL REGISTERED VOTERS has taken place in the last 20 years? What is so friggin difficult about registering to vote and taking some form of ID with you to vote and going to the right place to vote? I'm so SICK of this NON-STORY!
Then it would behoove the Missouri Republicans to mass-distribute a nearly-identical flier.
The only change would be the caption under the photo---"This is how the Democrats kept you away from the polls in the 60s. They don't want to hear you now either."
Hello!
I don't know you as well, but I like your posts.
I'll ping YOU to the nonsense as well!
Isn't a printed accusation that cannot be verified considered libel?
Cant we put out a flier that states "the men behind those hoses were DEMOCRATS!"
How about 'Vote for the Party that cares more about the content of person's character than the color of their skin'...
The people will know in their hearts which party this is talking about.
That is an excellent idea.
Where is Registered?
( I have ZERO talent!)
*shaking head and tsking mightily*
I have seen a copy of the flier and it is the typical trick of these Democrat off shot groups that are looking to scare minorities into the voting booth, since at the end of the day fear is the only thing they have.
Not just Missouri. My conservative candidate for Congress is being accused by Democrats of having "ties" to white supremacists. These ties are so far removed that the same "associates" have also been associated with Planned Parenthood and the Sierra Club, both donors to the 'rat candidate.
WOW a Democrat with some scruples! I am impressed!
Sarah Howard is a tool of the devil.
Bull Connor????? Democrat
Orval Faubus....Democrat....
George Wallace....Democrat...
Then you would hear some howling
Like they say, turn about is fair play!
I know that you are plenty fired up already, but does this kind of thing motivate you more to work against these ignorant fear mongers? Or, is it even worth bringing this to other African American's attention (as something that is fear mongering)?
Yes it is worth it because it shows that other than fear and big government, the Democrat Party has nothing to offer.
I have read the recent reports and studies that show the conservative movement being a reason why some African Americans have moved to supporting President Bush. What's your sense of that?
I've never understood why the Republicans don't simply go back to the Congressional record and quote the dems prior to 1964. Byrd, Hollings, Gore's father, Fulbright ALL the southern dems were racists and weren't afraid to say so. Print their words and show the blacks. When Byrd or Hollings complain, ask them if "They are lying now or were lying then!"
which is a worse scare-tactic?
black people are being suppressed!
or
john kerry will ban the bible and legalize homosexual marriage!
let's not pick and choose which to get offended over ok? either they're both dirty tricks, or it's all fair game. but either way, both sides are alienating the very groups they are trying to court.

Double-barrelled Mega-PING! to both lists! If you want on, FReepmail me!
Of course, it's just fine and dandy for the voters in my state - and the DNC - that their Democrat senior senator is a former Klansman. It's a strange world in which we live.
Yes there has been a shift and that is why Jesse Jackson was on CNN yesterday making the claim that Kerry will get record black support.
The guy in the picture with the firehose was a Democrat.
That is what people have to be reminded again and again, as many times as necessary.
We are the party of color blind citizenship. Thats our heritage, and thats who we are.
Is it fair to call Jesse a "race pimp"?
It all depends...are Democrats, on average, more bouyant than whale poop?
Someone better tell Ms. Howard that blacks still only make up 13% of the population. Stuff like this really fires up the majority white voting population.
Is "BACKFIRE" one word or two?
Jesse is a joke and will say or do anything if the money is right.
Sam is a moron.
I challenge anyone to explain what makes ANY of the broadcast nightly news anchors a "trustworthy" journalist.
"Colored Person???" Isn't that a tad un-PC?
Its important to point out that the political powers who turned the firehoses on them back then ALL belonged to the Democrat Party because then, blacks would have voted for Republicans. And if the Democrat power brokers thought for a moment blacks would support Republicans today, they would gladly turn the firehoses on them again if they could.
For Democrats, it's always been all about POWER.
Right. That's what DEMOCRATS used to do to keep you from voting.
REPUBLICANS put a stop to it.
Get a clue. Vote GOP.
But JF'inK probably will ban the Bible and legalize homsexual marriage. To point out that very probable reality is not a scare tactic.
Consider sKerry's affinity for emulating foreign countries. Canada (largely the french portion) have already ruled the Bible is hate speech and fined and imprisoned those who have quoted parts of it which the homos find offensive. And after all...sKerry is french.
Source, please?
This would be sickening if it weren't so predictable.
Some of the edge is taken off of this anti-Republican, race-baiting sludge by the knowledge that this pamphlet is a sign of sheer desperation by the "Black power" socialists who have designed it. These DemonRat scumbags are starting to sense a BIG win for Bush on the 2nd, and it's driving them up the wall with frustration. This is nothing more than an ugly but impotent stunt meant to scare a percentage of the population that is solidly in the liberals pocket in the first place.
ALMOST as bad as the two especially egregious examples of this smear campaign against Bush, from back in 2000:
The "Black churches will burn if you vote Republican" ads and the similar "When Bush voted against hate crimes legislation, it was like my daddy was being dragged behind that truck all over again".
Don't have the graphic but, "Ah Jeez, not this sh*t again!"
Eugene "Bull" Connor was a Democrat Police Commissioner in Birmingham, Alabama. He's known for using dogs and fire hoses against protestors.
Another name to add is Lester Maddox...Democrat.
I believe the time of the icident they have on the flyer was about 1962 when a DEMOCRAT southern sherriff called the FD to disperse blacks attempting to vote. Just FYI,heh, heh.
It's time for the GOP to employ some Ju-Jit-Su. It's time to take all these race baiting example and putting them in a TV commercial to the whole state population. That'll make them think twice the next time.
