Sorry, but Keyes has made a fool of himself and will in no way help the GOP.

Quotes on Keyes

Sen. Peter Fitzgerald:

Alan Keyes is perhaps the most articulate spokesperson anywhere in the country. He has few equals in his understanding of the issues or his ability to articulate core values and principle.

Rep. Henry Hyde:

Republicans in Illinois will have a splendid, credible, outstanding, persuasive, principled representative. He is a politician who believes in something and if the voters have an open mind you may get the surprise of your life November 2nd.

Mike Ditka:

If you want to talk issues, I know issues. I know what the people want, I know what the people demand. What I see in politics I don't like, because I see a lot of people going to Washington who don't represent the people who elect them. And that bothers me a lot. . . .

Now, let me tell you this. If people listen to Alan Keyes then he'll win. He's a solid man, believe me. This guy's not only intelligent, but he's solid, and if people of his own race listen to him, they'll understand that this guy, he's what it's all about. He's a good American. Let's forget all the other crap. I don't like that [we] have the Afro-American or Hispanic American or Irish American. Hey, he's an American, and I think that's what counts most.

Mike Ditka:

I support [Alan Keyes] because he's a conservative and on the right side of issues I already believe in. We're very close philosophically about what we believe, about politics and issues. . . .

Anybody who listened to him speak in the last presidential debates and didn't understand what the man was saying had to be deaf, because he's good.

Sen. Frank Watson (R-Greenville):

[Alan Keyes] has a strong message that I think will resonate with Illinois voters. I think it will resonate with Downstate voters. This election is going to be about issues, and he's not afraid to take them on.

Rush Limbaugh:

I think ninety percent of the people who listen to Alan Keyes know in their hearts he's right, but they don't want to reorder their lives to live that way. . . . [Supporting] Alan Keyes is not just committing to Alan Keyes! It is saying to yourself: "I have got to fix my life. I've got to straighten up and fly right, I've got to accept responsibility for things."

Rep. Roscoe G. Bartlett (Maryland):

With Alan Keyes' extensive diplomatic and foreign policy experience as an ambassador at the United Nations, he will offer voters a vigorous and informed debate about the biggest challenge facing our country, which is winning the war on terrorism without losing our civil liberties.

Thomas Sowell, economist and columnist:

Alan Keyes . . . is a man who knows what he stands for, who is not afraid to take stands on a whole range of controversial issues — from abortion to foreign policy — and is articulate enough to go toe to toe with any Democrat.

Because the Republicans are at their weakest and most confused on racial issues, a Senator Alan Keyes might be able to introduce some sanity and some backbone into the Republican leadership on this issue.

Thomas Sowell:

Alan Keyes has had far more experience at the national and international level. After serving overseas as a foreign service officer, he rose within the State Department to become Assistant Secretary of State during the Reagan administration.

What Alan Keyes has become best known for, however, have been his staunchly conservative views on the family, military defense, and other conservative causes. He has been part of the conservative movement since his teenage years.

Star Parker, president of the Coalition on Urban Renewal and Education:

Alan Keyes provides a stark contrast and genuine alternative for voters. In Keyes' view, a free society cannot exist with capricious law. A standard must exist and for the "nation under God" that Lincoln addressed at Gettysburg, that standard must be our religion and our tradition. This is the standard that has protected life, liberty, and property so well and provided the basis for the prosperity we have created. It is this standard that recognizes human dignity and uniqueness and allows parents to educate their children as they see fit and allows them to retain their earnings and to save. . . . The test and unfinished work that Lincoln talked about at Gettysburg remain with us today. Let's hope we have the wisdom to choose the real path to freedom, in Illinois and around the nation.

Jim Robinson, founder of FreeRepublic.com:

Nothing . . . would please me more than seeing Alan Keyes win a seat in the U.S. Senate!

Why?

He's a God-fearing man.

He's an unabashed conservative.

He defends America and traditional American values.

He would be a pro-life vote in the Senate.

He would be a pro-family vote in the Senate.

He would be a pro-gun vote in the Senate. (He's one of the few who is unafraid to express and stand for the true meaning and intent of the Second Amendment.)

He is a true advocate of the principles stated in the Declaration of Independence.

He would be a pro-tax cut vote in the Senate.

He would be a pro-defense vote in the Senate.

He would be a pro-sovereignty vote in the Senate.

He would be a pro-limited government vote in the Senate.

He would be a pro-self-government vote in the Senate.

He would be a Senate vote opposing liberal activist judges.

He would be a vote in the Senate for an eventual repeal of the 16th Amendment.

He would be a vote in the Senate for an eventual repeal of the 17th Amendment.

He's a far, far better man than his opponent on every issue near and dear to my heart.

I would be extremely happy and take great pleasure in seeing Alan Keyes defeat Barack Obama. I believe wholeheartedly that unlike Obama, Senator Keyes would preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States of America to the utmost of his ability and would dedicate himself to working with all of us in securing the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.

I challenge anyone to put up a detailed list of the reasons why you believe Barack Obama would be better for America in the Senate than Alan Keyes.

Paul Harvey:

So you're less than enthusiastic about any of those fellows running for [office]?

How would you respond if one of them should give first priority to restoring the moral environment of the marriage-based family?

Suppose he should say "If you think money makes people happy, just look at Hollywood."?

Would you vote for one with experience in government who says that government expanding itself at the expense of family values has been a destroyer?

Suppose he were to say "Welfare, taxes and education were all mistakes of an earlier era. They didn't work." He says only work works.

"Welfare" he'll say "discourages marriage and promotes illegitimacy."

"Taxes" he'll say "have forced more and more families into two parent working situations, leaving their children to be reared by nobody."

"Government" he'd say "has been planting weeds."

"Churches once took the lead in charity and should again. Not just with material help, but with moral and spiritual and emotional help."

Abortion: Only when a mother's life is in danger.

Affirmative action is a patronage program that benefits too few people."

And if this candidate's credentials include a Harvard doctorate and, as I say, experience in government and if he's been president of a university, would you vote to support him?

Well you can if you want to. He is running.

His name is Alan Keyes.

I know. I'll bet you can't even spell it. K-E-Y-E-S.

Ronald Reagan:

Alan, . . . every time I asked you to do your best, you did that and better. Every time I asked you stand for America, you stood tall, and you deserve not only my thanks, but the thanks of every citizen of this great country.

You're the one making a fool of yourself.

Just go away, please.

This is intended to be a positive thread.

Bashers need not apply.

No, I'm not going anywhere. Bush-Cheney are avoiding Keyes like the plague and well they should. The only question is whether Keyes will lose by 30% or 40%. It will be an ugly sight.

Yep, it was a brilliant move for Keyes to call the VEEP’s daughter a “hedonist.” Great move, Alan, you simpleton!
