United Methodists Call for Accountable Leadership (Petition for B/C to repent)
http://theymustrepent.com/ ^

Posted on 10/22/2004 10:56:20 PM PDT by hipaatwo

Who are we? We are United Methodists bringing a letter of complaint against United Methodist Church members George W. Bush and Richard "Dick" Cheney for their chargeable offenses of crime, immorality, disobedience to the order and discipline of The United Methodist Church (UMC), and dissemination of doctrine contrary to the established standards of doctrine of The UMC. We are calling for accountability and repentance from these two members for their sinful behavior. This specific letter of complaint originates from two United Methodist members, Rev. Courtney Ball and Josh Steward, from the Iowa Annual Conference, but we are encouraging anyone who reads the letter below and agrees with it to sign their name to the letter as well. When the letter has had time to circulate and gain signatures, it will be presented to the various recipients listed on the letter in order that they may investigate the claims and push for a resolution to the complaint.

Our hope: Our hope is that George W. Bush and Dick Cheney (respondents) will recognize the sinfulness of their actions, sincerely repent for what they have done, and move on to change their ways. Although we recognize the improbability of that outcome, we believe that with God all things are possible.

If, however, they do not repent sincerely, immediately, and publicly for their chargeable offenses, we believe that the respondents should have their membership revoked from The United Methodist Church until such time that they see the error of their ways and wish to return.

Why are we doing this? We are taking this action as Christians who are desperate to hold two of our own accountable. We, as United Methodists, understand that it is our duty to support and encourage our members and our leaders, and we have been doing so faithfully through prayers and petitions. But enough is enough. The guidance of our bishops and our church-members has been ignored by the respondents for too long. Too many people have died or suffered from the sins of these two men. Now it is time for them to answer for their actions with repentance, to turn back and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, or to be judged for not doing so.

Read and Sign the Letter: Read the letter of complaint, and if you are a member of the United Methodist Church, add your name to the list of signatures. The more signatures we get, the clearer the message is that we will not stand for two of our own perpetrating these crimes against humanity

This is an embarrassment. Especially if you're a Methodist...and I am. I've always been proud to share the same denomination as the President. Unfortumately, their statement is not a surprise to me because people in nat'l leadership positions have been trending left for quite awhile now. How can we let them know they don't speak for us??

I really don't know. I grew up in a houseful of left Dem's. After Sept. 11th and seeing the ilk that has come out of the Dem party and the liberal Jews I know, I don't understand it either.

Here's their letter of complaint. They're opposed to the war in Iraq and want Bush and Cheney to stop acting in our national interest.

Who are we?

Well you are a bunch of mentally ill sKerry supporting Dimorats. You evidently don't have clue if your supporting sKerry. I saw this from some black ministers doing the same thing. Your petition is just another immature made up Dimmorat plan that will not work. I don't think your going to get many sane people to sign your shitty petition. I used to go to the United Methodist Church until they started supporting thing out side the bible. nuf said!

I think Bush/Cheney are acting in their faith as well, genuinely. I wonder who these two are? Are they supposed to be "heavy hitters" in their church? I think this is just a feeble attempt for them to say that there are "fellow" Methodists who are opposed to Bush.

LOL!Probably the same idiots who are trying to boost gay membership.

What diseased souls they are.

Too bad this crap always reflects badly on the UMC. The vast majority would likely lock these maroons out of the church on Sunday.

Mildly amusing coming from people belonging to a denomination that doesn't generally recognize a sin when it sees one: most clear choices between good and evil are "deeply personal decisions." Not, of course, when you're guilty of the sin of being a conservative. Then you get out the old Methodist sermons ("the preacher was opposed to fornicating, because he believed that it might lead to dancing.")

Check out the official web page, and see if you can find any reference to sin anywhere in there.

And of course, let the flaming of Fred begin...

What's the Bible say about "baring false witness against others"?

Whoa! This takes my breath away. A denomination that backed the ainti war movement in the 1970's that ordained feminists as priests in the 1980's and that has ordained homosexuals as ministers in 2000 and they are talking about sins that George Bush and Dick Cheney have commited.

The sect was founded by John and Charles Wesley in the 1700's in their day they danced shouted and poeple spoke in other tongues in their meetings -- by 1840 they were so backslidden in England that when William Booth the founder of the salvation army (1869) preached in their churches he was expelled for shouting and daring to wave a hankerchief to make a point in a message.

In the 1970's they joined with the world council of churches -- I wrote extensevely about that in two posts early last summer -- The denomination was taken over by radicals at about the same time that the democratic party was taken over.

The sinners are the united methodist church members. They must be smoking crack to have made such an outrageous statement. These fools remind me of the mindless liberal preacher in the movie, "ZULU." I would also presume they are having their delusional kerry moment. Bush/Cheney 2004

These are the people who go around proclaiming to others that they are a christian. My first thought would be why are you telling me? Are they insecure in what they portray? A real christian doesn't have to go around in a religious fervor thumping the good book. One will be identified by their good works and not frantic verbal self- expression. Six Words in Response: Sola Fide, Sola Gratia, Sola Deo Gloria.

I can repeat them again if somehow these 'Methodists' don't get it.

Maybe thirty pieces of silver from the kerry kooks have greased some palms. As Abe said, better to remain silent and thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt. These are just some radicals and does not reflect on all methodists.Bush/Cheney 2004

That's fair. However, I think this is a great reason to go nondenominational. Go back to the Bible rather than constructs of man and hierarchical leadership that enforces corruption from the top down at some point.

Independent churches, as with the home churches in Acts, are the most stable and faithful way to go. Keep the accountability local but allow honest Christians from anywhere to encourage what is right.
