Powerlineblog.org: We Just Got A Tip (Breaking Story on Kerry?)
Powerline ^ | 10/23/04

We just got a tip......that a major newspaper will break a front-page story Monday morning that could create a serious problem for the Kerry campaign. We don't yet have any details, but it relates to a foreign policy issue, and it will call into question--amazingly enough--John Kerry's truthfulness.

We'll watch for the story Sunday night and post it as soon as it becomes available.

Sounds like his Paris meeting. If what you say is true, and they can link both stories, this should be good.

Some toad posted a similar thing earlier in the week about our guy. Said that a high-ranking Kerry official said they have something on Bush and to "be afraid, be very afraid". Haven't seen it yet! I don't really buy into this stuff.

However, if it is indeed true, darn good for us.

My bad, it was Weekly World News, not National Enquirer.

I hate when unsubstantiated stuff like this comes up. Most times its just crap. If it was REALLY a big news item--SOMEONE would have put it out immediately. It just raises expectations (like the STOLEN HOUR thing,,,,like Slick's impeachment testimony,,,like the repeated 'October surprises')--and if those high expectations are not met, the story becomes a non-story--ending up being a net minus.

Or worse, NOTHING happens and the resulting disappointment can de-energize some support and supporters (i.e. Sinclair and Slick testimony mentioned above). We've been burned too many times already.

If there is something there--JUST PUT IT OUT! Don't give us this "I have a secret and I'm not telling yet" crap,,,,and more importantly, don't give the opposition time to prepare their spin with their well-thought out, tortured logic and phoney defenses!!!

JUST DO IT ASAP,,,don't heighten non-existent and/or false expectations.

Mike Krempasky at the Redstate blog has now added this tidbit:

Stay tuned for Monday morning, folks. A story will break that the Kerry campaign will have to respond to. Call it another chapter in the story of John Kerry making stuff up. And while RedStaters didn't write a single word of it - I'm proud to say that some folks involved in this site (and at least one other blogger) certainly pointed in the right direction. (More on that later)

My friend who I have been emailing all night (it is night for me in Singapore, actually one forty four in the morning) is thinking that this may be the story since the buzz on the Hill is that Kerry has been sending some foreign advisors to Hassad and the Mullocrats in Tehran...but he cautioned me that it could easily be something entirely different.

The story Monday may have the following words....Iraq, Paris, France, Oil, Coalition, Foreign, Policy, Plan, Treason, 1985, Discharge, or other words found in the Oxford Dictionary... Now there's a TIP!

I agree that we MUST not speculate. We must resist the strong urge because we could lessen the impact of something big and help to innoculate the charge beforehand.

People will be trolling these threads looking for something, anything to tip them off. Please let's not help them.

I await the news Monday. I shall say no more about this topic.

If the "story" is confirmed by enough reliable sources or a "smoking gun" then any of the majors would go with it.

The only item that comes to mind would be Kerry's discharge and subsequent hearings or {guessing here) an interview video with General Giap of the NVA saying Kerry's antiwar activities were crucial to continuing the war against the Americans.

Actually, I'm now thinking that we may be in a situation where both sides are holding off in introducing anything due to a working MAD (mutually assured destruction) strategery.

Who were the campaign officials Kerry sent to meet with Iran and Syria? How recent were those Kerry contacts? And what promises did Kerry make to those governments?

Then my friend (the hill staffer's) theory is probably wrong since while treasonous, John Kerry's emissaries to Syrian and Iran are nothing he's lied about...must be something else.

>>It's something that the Kerry campaign will be forced to address regarding a previous criticism of Bush's foreign policy<<

That won't be good enough for the "undecided." The "undecided" are not undecided about world events and anyone who thinks that's their problem is in for a rude awakening.

So the scandal has to be something more simple than the War...something more personal and dirtier like: Kerry is a Closet Lesbian.

Anything that requires people (especially the undecided) to think, will not work.

Former Clinton aids have been negoating with Syria. I haven't heard anything about this lately.

I think they are keeping it close to their chest and saving it for the October surprise to hit Bush over the head with it a week before elections.

Timing is everything....as they say.

There wouldn't be enough time left for Bush to do anything about it before the election.

Kerry might ride into the election on that horse.

Thank you...let's keep quiet and do not speculate. You can visit our friendly blogs, etc. but here we have DU's that are running around like Lawrence O"Donnell last night hyperventilating trying to find out info to take it to the enemy. Look what happened to Sinclair...we can wait a few hours..

The Bush campaign has the tape of Whoopi Goldberg at Radio City making sexual comments about Bush and John Kerry standing there saying she's a good patriotic Democrat

It's been around the internet for a while now that Kerry has people in Syria discussing their wmd's and what happened to Saddams.

This is a crock. If Kerry had people in Syria, we'd know about it.

And who are these "people"?

There's lots of crap on internet, and this is the biggest pile yet.
