Thanks for posting this thread. While it's another vanity, it's the most important vanity that we can post. There are campaign offices all over the country that need people right now. They need people to knock on doors, to make phone calls, to serve as poll watchers, to wave signs at intersections and precincts, to serve as runners on election day. There is still time for almost everyone to make and impact and walk the talk. For those who are in states where the presidential race is not competitive, there are other races that are very important. Volunteers can help give us a more conservative and Republican Congress. They can help give us more conservative and Republican state houses.

I'm in Louisiana, and I went with a group to walk precincts in our parish today. These are precincts that the campaigns have targetted as very important to the Republican US Senate candidate. President Bush will win Louisiana, but we're putting finishing touches on the victory for him and trying to give him a Republican senator.

Bill

You know, you reminded me of something. When we were living in our small Texas town, the GOP office was NEVER open. I drove by there dozens of times to offer help, etc. I guess offices in safe states are not busy. It will be wonderful for you to go to Colorado. They need you and it will be an awesome experience for you. You'll have a good time.

Blessings.

Volunteered at our local RNC office for phone work and/or door-to-door. (Depending on weather). I think I prefer door-to-door. I just like looking people in the eye.
This will happen Thursday 29 Oct, Friday 30 Oct and Monday, 1 November.

Everyone should volunteer at least once to help elect the millionaire lawyers (mostly) of the one and a half US political party to Congress, Senate and the White House so that they can pass legislation and appoint judges to raise our taxes and take away our civil rights. Hurray for Everything!

I forgot to mention that I'm in Missouri in a rural area. Judging by yard signs, we have about a 5:1 ratio of Bush vs. Kerry.
Our Republican Headquarters is a bustling busy happy place (cautiously optimistic) while the Democratic Office right across the street is locked up most of the time. (such as today)

He hasn't made it any easier, that's certain. I keep hoping it will backfire, but that's hard if it's not in the media.

We started our 72 hour get out the vote walks today, because we're old and decrepit and it will take that long to walk our precinct.

Here's what we handed out(along with a copy of Zell Miller's speech(bold and centering and different size prints not showing):

DOMESTIC POLICIES of President George W. Bush

MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS (2001-2003)

No Child Left Behind School Reform Law which makes schools test every child to be sure all are learning and provides a record level of funding to help any child who is not learning.
For example, Gainesville Elementary School in northeast Georgia is mostly Hispanic and 90 percent poor -- and this year 90 percent of its students passed state tests in reading and math.

Income Tax Cuts which have raised tax deductions for children and lowered tax rates for everyone and made taxes fairer for married people, and helped save the economy from the 2000-2001 economic downturn and the economic blow caused by the terrorist attacks on 9/11.

Medicare Reform and Prescription Drug Coverage starts in 15 months but offers a Medicare drug discount card now which senior citizens under Medicare can get by calling 1-800-MEDICARE (633-4227).

Ban on Partial Birth Abortion so that now it isn’t allowed to kill the baby during birth if the life of the mother is not threatened.

NEW PROPOSALS
to change many systems that were created for the world of yesterday, not tomorrow "so that all citizens are prepared…to make your own choices and pursue your own dreams."

JOBS
President Bush’s policies and tax relief have replaced 1.9 million jobs of the 2.5 million lost because of the economic downturn of 2000-2001 and the terrorist attacks on 9/11. Also his policies have allowed many people to create their own jobs and businesses which are not counted in the jobs figures, but which show up in the unemployment rate. Unemployment has dropped to 5.4% from a high of 6.4% last year and is now the same as the rate in August, 2001, just before the terrorist attacks on 9/11.

However, it isn’t enough yet, so to produce even more jobs --
“We will stand with workers in poor communities -- and those that have lost manufacturing, textile, and other jobs – by creating American opportunity zones. In these areas, we'll provide tax relief and other incentives to attract new business, and improve housing and job training to bring hope and work throughout all of America.”

To create more jobs in America, America must be the best place in the world to do business, by encouraging investment and expansion, by restraining federal spending, reducing regulation, making tax relief permanent and reforming and simplifying the tax code.
“To create jobs, we will make our country less dependent on foreign sources of energy.
To create jobs, we will expand trade and level the playing field to sell American goods and services across the globe.
And because small business owners create most new jobs in America, we must protect small business owners and workers from the explosion of frivolous lawsuits that threaten jobs across America.”

EDUCATION IS THE KEY TO GOOD JOBS
“I know that with the right skills, American workers can compete with anyone, anywhere in the world.”

(continued on back)

EDUCATION IS THE KEY TO GOOD JOBS
Because we are only beginning to see the benefits of No Child Left Behind School Reform, President Bush will double the number of people served by our principal job training program and
increase funding for community colleges
“In our high schools, we will fund early intervention programs to help students at risk. We will place a new focus on math and science.
By expanding Pell grants for low and middle income families, we will help more Americans start their career with a college diploma.”

Health Care and Health Insurance
America's children must have a healthy start in life. President Bush will lead an aggressive effort to enroll millions of poor children who are eligible but not signed up for the government's health insurance programs

More than half of the uninsured are small business employees and their families.
“In a new term, we must allow small firms to join together to purchase insurance at the discounts available to big companies.
We will offer a tax credit to encourage small businesses and their employees to set up health savings accounts (which you can take with you if you change jobs) and provide direct help for low-income Americans to purchase them.
We will ensure every poor county in America has a community or rural health center.”

“As I have traveled our country, I have met too many good doctors, especially OB-GYNS [specialists who deliver babies], who are being forced out of practice because of the high cost of lawsuits. To make health care more affordable and accessible, we must pass medical liability reform now, and make sure that health decisions are made by doctors and patients, not by bureaucrats…”

OWNERSHIP SOCIETY
Another priority for a new term is to build an ownership society, because ownership brings security, and dignity, and independence.
Thanks to President Bush’s policies, homeownership in America is at an all-time high, but he has set a goal of creating another 7 million new affordable homes.

And just as he wants our people to own their own homes and their own health savings accounts, he wants our younger workers to own a piece of their retirement savings.

“We will always keep the promise of Social Security for our older worker. However, many of our children and grandchildren understandably worry whether Social Security will be there when they need it. We must allow younger workers to save some of their payroll [F.I.C.A.] taxes in a personal account -- a nest egg you can call your own, and government can never take away.”

VALUES
“In this world of change, some things do not change: the values we try to live by, the institutions that give our lives meaning and purpose. Our society rests on a foundation of responsibility and character and family commitment.”

“Because family and work are sources of stability and dignity, I support welfare reform that strengthens family and requires work.
Because a caring society will value its weakest members, we must make a place for the unborn child. Because religious charities provide a safety net of mercy and compassion, our government must never discriminate against them.
Because the union of a man and woman deserves an honored place in our society, I support the protection of marriage against activist judges. And I will continue to appoint federal judges who know the difference between personal opinion and the strict interpretation of the law.”

FOREIGN POLICIES of PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH

MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS (2001-2004)

1. FREEDOM for AFGHANISTAN. The Taliban Government was removed from power in Afghanistan and Free Elections were held under the eyes of the United Nations on October 8, 2004. Women are going to school, getting care during childbirth, and voting in Afghanistan now.

2. RUSSIAN AMERICAN NUCLEAR REDUCTION TREATY signed in 2002 is dismantling thousands of nuclear weapons in Russia and here and allows the U.S. to build a missile defense system.

3. WAR ON TERROR. The world-wide effort has so far brought about the capture or death of thousands of al-Qaida terrorists and 70% of their leaders and the arrest of dozens of terrorist cell members in the U.S., which has so far prevented another large-scale terrorist strike on U.S. soil.

4. OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM ended Saddam Hussein’s dictatorship in IRAQ. Saddam is in jail and his evil sons are dead.

5. The Proliferation Security Initiative started by President Bush uncovered and stopped the Pakistani A.Q. Khan nuclear smuggling network. This initiative coordinates military action and police work of 15 countries, including the U.S., Japan, Britain, Russia, the Netherlands, France, Australia, and Germany, to stop the spread of nuclear weapons materials.

6. Libyan Disarmament: Libya’s entire nuclear program will soon be in our possession. Right after Saddam was caught last year, Mohamar Ghadaffi of Libya decided to give up all his nuclear weapons program materials. 48 huge crates are already at our nuclear facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, with more coming. Energy Secretary Abraham says Libya had 4,000 centrifuges and enough uranium hexafluoride gas to make several nuclear weapons per year.

President Bush’s Foreign Policy Positions:

North Korea:
President Clinton’s bilateral agreement on nuclear weapons with North Korea failed because the North Koreans didn’t keep their word, despite the huge payments to them in money and food aid. To decrease the threat of North Korean nukes to Alaska and Hawaii, Bush has set up missile defense systems in Alaska.

We now have multilateral talks with North Korea, including China, Russia, Japan, and South Korea because they have a stake in them and because China can put more pressure on dictator Kim Jong-Il than we can. If we start bilateral talks with North Korea, Kim Jong-Il will pull out of the multilateral talks.

Iran:
Iran must not be allowed to have nuclear weapons. The fanatical mullahs that rule Iran cannot be allowed to produce plutonium in the nuclear plant they are building, because they aid the terrorists.

We are working for a diplomatic solution with the British, the French, the Germans and the Russians, and through the U.N.’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). We also just sold an AWAC to Israel.

In 2003, President Bush formed a three-way alliance between the U. S., Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan called the Caspian Guard. Check Iran on a globe. We are boxing in Iran. The U.S. military is in Iraq and Afghanistan. We have alliances with Pakistan, Turkey, and the ‘Stans”. In fiscal 2003, $11.1 million went to Turkmenistan, part for border control.
This is to contain the mullahs until the people there can overthrow them. With half of the population in Iran now young people who yearn for freedom, we have great hope for Iran, if we can buy their blossoming revolution enough time with some diplomatic and military chess moves.

IRAQ:
Why We Couldn’t Wait:
1. The United Nations’ oil for food program with Saddam Hussein is under investigation for corruption. The U.N. sanctions against Saddam’s regime were unraveling due to this corruption. Saddam gave huge oil credit vouchers worth millions to companies in France and Russia in exchange for weapons materials. The will of the U.N. to keep Saddam in a box was undercut by this corruption.
2. Saddam kept plans and equipment for making chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, planning to restart his programs after sanctions were lifted. He didn’t cooperate with U.N. weapons inspectors.
3. Saddam used chemical weapons on the Iranians and the Kurds. In March, 2003, summer dust storms were coming; it was already over 90 degrees. The heat alone could kill our soldiers in their chemical suits. Confining soldiers in Kuwait and on ships through the summer would have been a morale breaker for our nation and our soldiers. President Bush had to decide whether waiting would increase the danger to America, or whether to trust our fate to a madman who wanted revenge for Gulf War I.
4. The 9/11 Commission Report documents Iraqi intelligence agents having direct contact with Osama bin Laden in Sudan in winter of 1994-95 and in Afghanistan in 1998, meetings arranged by the Egyptian Zawahiri, the most visible head of al Qaida now, who had ties of his own to Iraq.
Saddam paid $25,000 to families of suicide bombers, and harbored terrorists.
Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. admitted bin Laden loyalist, now leading terrorists in Iraq, fled Afghanistan wounded to Iraq in 2002 where he was given safe harbor and medical treatment.
CBS’s Leslie Stahl interviewed Abdul Rahman Yasin in Baghdad in 2002. Yasin aided mastermind Ramzi Yousef in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center.

What Went Wrong:
1. If Turkey had allowed the 101st to enter Iraq from the north, we would have had more troops in Baghdad at the fall of Baghdad
2. Before Gulf War I in 1991, Saddam sent his fighter jets to Iran, his enemy, for safekeeping.
The Duelfer report noted that unknown material from suspected WMD sites was trucked to Syria just before U.S. troops went into Iraq in 2003. If Syria does has some of Saddam’s weapons, is Syria’s President Assad waiting to see if Bush wins reelection before deciding to give them up?

What Went Right:
1. Planning and Special Forces prevented lethal Scud missile strikes on Israel and Kuwait, torching all the oil fields, and a pogrom against Kurds and Shiites. The world is better off with Saddam in a jail cell.
2. Thirty countries are in our coalition helping Iraq. Even Germany is providing financial aid to Iraq and training Iraqi troops and police officers in the United Arab Emirates. Russia, France, and Germany at the urging of the U.S. have forgiven 80 billion dollars worth of debt incurred by Iraq under Saddam Hussein.
3. The United Nations is helping register Iraqis for elections scheduled in late January.
4. The interim government in Iraq, under Prime Minister Allawi, has sovereignty now, and Iraq’s newly trainted troops are helping U.S. troops clean out foreign terrorists and Saddam loyalists in cities in the Sunni Triangle. Sumarra is now policed by newly trained Iraqi policemen and Fallujah is close to real containment now that the effort is backed by a legitimate Iraqi governing voice.
( Like Afghanistan, Iraq has been a balancing act -- between putting in so many of our own troops that we have greater control but enrage average citizens -- and using fewer troops to encourage freedom loving Iraqis to take control of their political system and their own security, which can be messier, but may be the only sure way to real freedom for Iraq, as it was for Afghanistan).
5. Schools and hospitals are all open and supplied. Over 150 newspapers are being printed. Electrical output exceeds amount before Saddam fell. Children are no longer in prisons. 12 year old girls are not being raped by Uday. Over 200,000 Saddam victims discovered in mass graves are getting proper burial.

President Bush believes the long-term solution to terrorism is to assist Middle Eastern countries to embrace freedom. This may be a long and difficult task, but may be the best insurance that young men in these regions will find better things to do in the future than coming here to blow up themselves and our children.

FOREIGN AFFAIRS - Senator Kerry’s positions:

Nuclear proliferation is the most dangerous problem on the planet. I would give nuclear fuel to Iran.

We need multilateral coalitions to deal with problems. I would hold bilateral talks with North Korea.

The president has always had the right of preemptive strike to defend America. Before we go to war we must have reasons and evidence that will meet a global test and hold up under international scrutiny.

I believe in a woman’s right to privacy. Mary Cheney is a lesbian, in case you didn’t already know.

I believed the intelligence before the war with Iraq that said they had weapons of mass destruction. Saddam was a deadly threat. It was the wrong war, at the wrong time, in the wrong place. It would be irresponsible for me to vote against the appropriations bill to fund supplies for the troops in Iraq and Afghanistatn. I voted for the $87 billion before I voted against it. I have always been consistent.

President Bush has offended our allies, while I would be diplomatic and not offend them.
The Saudi Arabian monarchy is corrupt. President Putin of Russia is a dictator trying to suppress free speech. Our allies in Iraq -- Britain, Italy, Poland and Australia -- are a coalition of the coerced and the bribed. Iraqi Prime Minister Allawi is a puppet.

Senator Kerry’s plan to win the peace in Iraq: “I would call a summit.”

STEM CELLS, some basic facts:

There is no ban on stem cell research in the U.S. Any privately funded group can do any kind of stem cell research.

President Bush was the first president to authorize taxpayer funding of stem cell research in America.
He limited this taxpayer funding to adult stem cells, fetal stem cells obtained from umbilical cord blood, and embryonic stem cell lines already in existence, which did not involve any further harvesting and killing of embryos. President Bush decided not to allow killing of embryos using taxpayer money.

Adult stem cell research has already yielded promising results. Research on embryonic stem cells so far has indicated there may be a high risk of tumors associated with use of these stem cells.

An embryo is a tiny human being in an early stage of development before he/she develops into a fetus. It has the full amount of DNA as an adult human and is a stage of development that comes after fertilization of the egg, the blastula stage (a ball of cells) and the gastrula stage (a ball of cells with one end pushed inward). Some religions are against destruction of embryos as they believe growing them and then killing them for research is slavery and murder.

Whatever your personal beliefs about embryonic stem cell research, you should consider when voting on PROPOSITION 71 whether California, still billions of dollars in debt, should be paying for new research of any kind when many vital programs have been cut to balance our budget. Should we go further in the hole so some people can make a political statement?

I'VE HEARD NOTHING FROM THE GOP.
