Im waiting for confirmation before I blast this out to the world.
I concur. Especially since the claim has no source and there's no such release on the Libertarian Party web site.
This better not be a CBS moment.
It's starting to smell like one. Big time.
Waiting for confirmation of sources.....Always a good choice.
I am one more libertarian (small "L")who will be voting for Bush. Let the left be the idiots who vote for Nader and shoot themselves in the foot.
I dunno. In 1990 or thereabouts, I reregistered Libertarian in California out of disgust for George I and his failure to read his own lips. It quickly came to my attention that the Libertarian party (at least in CA) was run by a bunch of moonbats who seemed mostly concerned with being able to puff their doobies free of government sanction.
I came home to the Republicans pretty quickly.
That said, Hospers sounds like his head is screwed on pretty well. His letter sounds like what I thought the Libertarian party would be like.
It's been nearly an hour since the initial posting and no credible source has been cited apart from an AOL address (yeah...like no-one claiming to be someone else can get an AOL address, right?).
This thing is starting to smell like Bravo Sierra.
It ain't just the Californian Liberalitarians...
Powerful paragraph- really makes the case against sKerry and the Demoncraps. This is a lot of the reason why I wouldn't dream of voting for Lurch.
Thanks for supporting this president! From a dem site (not DU, btw):
There are four third-party candidates, not just Nader. While Cobb (Green) is on the ballot in barely more than half the states, and mostly states where the outcome is not in doubt, Peroutka and Nader are on in 3/4 or so, and Badnarik (Libertarian) is on the ballot everywhere except NH and OK, including every battleground state except NH. (YMMV on NH as a battleground).
A poll on Ohio that is a 3-way Bush Kerry Nader is just wrong, because (accuracy depends on litigation) Nader is not on the ballot in Ohio, but Badnarik the Libertarian (whose draw is very different than Nader's) is there and drawing votes.
These bad three-way polls selectively damage the Kerry campaign, because they show a 3-way with Nader competing with Kerry for votes, but fail to show Peroutka selectively scooping up conservatives, and Badnarik doing the Libertarian thing. It is worthwhile for Kerry supporters to call for competent polling where the pollees are given correct lists of the candidates: Honest polling helps Kerry.

Re: More Bad Polling (none / 0)
Good comment. Badnarik's vote totals may surprise everyone.

Sent an email to the aol address informing him of this thread and that people were doing a "Cite, please" on the endorsement-
BTW if you websearch on the aol email address one hit comes up on what looks like an Objectivist site.
Um, yahoo search lists only one John Hospers living in CA. If anyone wants to call him up and confirm that would be nice, though I'd bet he wouldn't like to be swarmed with phone calls .
Kerry may get his very own French Revolution over here. :>) People are very sick of lawyers hijacking our system.
I endorse and will cast my vote for Mr. Badnarik.
However, given the astounding ineptitude of Republicans and the even more astounding criminality of DemocRATs I fully expect Mr. Kerry to claim the White House in a few short days.
Perhaps my use of the Free Republic Search engine is incompetent, but I am unable to find more than a few posts on the topic of Hugo Chavez and the Venezuelan elections which I believe will be the paradigm for our election in November.
Yet to hear from Harry "blame America first" Browne.
"johnjhospers" is currently online on AIM. I'm afraid I don't have the nerve to IM him... not that it's really him.
Any takers?? lol
Why does this letter look familiar?? Isn't this a compilation of quotes from others??
There is a difference between Democrats and Republicans. For all of GWB's many faults, and his many failures as a (compassionate) conservative, only a fool could support the LP in this election.
Can't improve on this.
I hope so. there is only 9 days left till the election. I hope a great portion of Americans who have been sleeping wake up and vote for W. We need/want a landslide. Looks like Hawaii, NJ, MN are starting to wake up.
Sure would like some AUTHENTICATION on this...
Funny you should post that.
I just got an email from the aol email address which gave me the same phone number and confirmed that he wrote the endorsement. (But, of course, that isn't exactly an ironclad authentication...)
I gave him the URL of this thread and asked him if he'd care to discuss with us.
Will check later to see if there is any type of authentication for this post...
Yea, you've got a point...Jimmy Carter watching over both. Could be some similarities. There were some posts.
Mr. Badnarik, as I remember has run for a few offices, but never won. Young, Good looking, programmer, who instructs a lot for a living. Nothing wrong, but not much of a candidate. So you are really doing is voting against W...obvious.
I wasn't aware of that. Are you saying the Libertarian will not strike first when he knows a fist is coming at his face? Will a Libertarian shoot first if someone points a loaded pistol at him and knows they are going to pull the trigger?
Thanks for your work in contacting Dr. Hospers.
From what I know of him, this letter fits his worldview.
L. (not H.) Ron Hubbard was a totalitarian--never anything close to a libertarian in any sense, even if he tried to cloak himself that way.
The Libertarian Party itself has lurched over to the looney, Bill Maherish, hedonistic side, and abandoned their rational, ethical individualism and laissez faire capitalism foundations.
I'm thrilled to hear Dr. Hospers endorse President Bush.
There's only one difference between Kerry's politics and Hillary's--Hillary is a better politician. She hasn't been as rabidly anti-war recently as Kerry has, because she knows the country is basically conservative. But make no mistake, if Hillary had her way, the UN (headed by her sock puppet husband) would rule the world, and US taxpayers would pay a global income tax. US sovereignty would be gone, its borders would disappear, and the Constitution would be replaced by a global constitution, drafted by a delegation from all nations including Syria, Iran, North Korea and a newly created Palestinian State. Hillary has been planning this all of her adult life, and given the chance, she will do her damnedest to make it happen.
But after listening to all of the local rhetoric, I got burned out. The ideas sound good on paper, but do not pass with people in general. I got tired of supporting something that no one took seriously (even LP members) and STILL having Slick Willie elected twice. Besides, the guy who was running for senate from New Mexico that year looked like grampa Munster. There were a few other reasons but that was a big one for me.
I will vote for LP when the S. Texas dems run unnopposed in the judgeships and I still read some of their stuff, but I am an "ex".
It's nice that he sees that dividing and conquering has been helping the left in this country for far to long
You're both confused. H. (Humberto) Ron Hubbard was the less renowned brother of L. Ron Hubbard, who along with Lyndon LaRouche's kid brother, Irving, went on to found the Liberace Party (wanting to bring more flash to U.S. politics).
Meantime, John Hospers went on to found a world famous medical center in Baltimore.
No need to thank me!
See my #85. I believe that clears it up once and for all. :-)
Are you really that ignorant, or do you just play a twit on FR?
And it's L. Ron Hubbard, compounding the idiocy of your post.
I sent an email to firstname.lastname@example.org, and the person with that address confirmed that he did write the letter, and he gave me his phone number if anyone wants to confirm that it is him. Thanks for the post, Y2!
Now that we are pretty sure that he wrote this, where might it be published? According to wikipedia, he is an editor of Liberty magazine which I've never heard of.
Who did Dr. Hopser release this too?? (media source?) Why isn't it on his or the Libertarian websites??
I too, have been an LP activist in the past, and I'll be voting for Dubya. I like and respect him. K*rr* scares me. I think he'd be a great Canadian Prime Minister.
I did not ask. I only asked if he was the author. The text of his letter is this:
Yes, I did write the letter. My e-mail address is email@example.com, And my phone number (LA directory) is [delted by me], in case anyone wants it for verification.
This kindof letter wouldn't be put on the libertarian website if its true anyway.
Who did Dr. Hopser release this too?? (media source?)
See reply #88
Why isn't it on his or the Libertarian websites??
You're kidding right?
I sent an e-mail to that address and got a "Delivery Failed" notification. His mailbox must be full.
Plenty of us libertarians are supporting Bush. As far as I know, most or all of the prominent Randians are on board as well. In other words, all of us who have a grain of common sense -- and John Hospers has enough common sense to sustain an entire university philosophy department singlehandedly -- are supporting W this year. There will be time enough for libertarians to argue with conservatives about drug legalization, etc. AFTER we have first rescued civilization from the evils threatening it from without (Islamofascism) and within (the modern Democratic Party and its media wing). Even we fanatics have priorities.
Couldn't have said it better.
I feel vindicated.
So what the heck is his name? The article is cited Hospers while the email is Hopsers, I'd hardly think Hospers would take that AOL name unless someone had the other and having a Hopsers take credit for the letter under the current circumstances is pretty fishy...
The suspense is killing me!
I'm seeing the letter on a few blog sites now...all with no source verification. [YIKES]
