John Kerry spoke of his love for guns and hunting last night as he fought jibes of being a liberal. "I've hunted. I own guns. I go out and hunt. That's who I am," the Democrats' presidential candidate said in a TV interview shown today.
His comments followed a campaign by the powerful pro-shooting lobby to highlight his voting record in favour of gun control. Last week Mr Kerry staged a photo-opportunity in camouflage hunting gear and shot a duck for the cameras.
He said he was a lifelong hunter and accused Republicans of a smear campaign. "They can't stand the idea that a Democrat actually likes to hunt," he said.
"I've hunted since I was 11 or 12 years old... I've been bird hunting through my life. Used to hunt woodchucks as a kid."
Mr Kerry also defended his wife Teresa who said Laura Bush had never had "a real job", although the President's wife was once a teacher. "She misspoke, as many of us do in life," he told NBC News. "I think Americans love her because she's authentic."

You've got to admit, he's probably spent more time in camo this week than his entire "tour" in VietNam.

I'd be thrilled if he retired and became a wealthy world hunter for the rest of his life. He could send us post cards from interesting places. He might also soften his anti-gun stance.
The second amendment isn't about hunting, but I suspect that he knows that pretty well.

"I've hunted since I was 11 or 12 years old... I've been bird hunting through my life. Used to hunt woodchucks as a kid. Heck, in Nam when I needed to relax I'd pop off a few rounds from my trusty M-79 at farmers. Man those little guys could run if you didn't have a clean hit."

HE THINKS AMERICANS LOVE HER??? lmao!
Somebody needs to adjust Hunting Boy's medication.

He can afford the tax he voted to inflict on everyone for all guns & ammo. He's never been against guns. He just has an itty bitty problem with leaving them in the hands of commoners.

LOL! ROFLMAO!
He reminds me of me, the headline I mean. I was playing my soul music albums and it was annoying hubby. I said "Soul is my life!" and he's been teasing me ever since.
Maybe, sometime in mid-November, Jean Francios and I can go a-hunting, and listen to some fine soul music on the way!
Oh please, Almighty God, may it be so!
Ter-ray-zaa can bring the beer!

I never hunted (really) in my life and probably never will. I don't have the desire to do it. If I were running for Pres, I wouldn't hunt just to pander for votes. I'd just explain my pro-hunting postion and that would be it. Look at Kerry, though. He fakes like he's a hunter and nobody believes him. The man has no bottom.

"Hunting is my Life"
John Kerry's previous statement on Hunting
"I go out with my trusty 12-gauge double-barrel, crawl around on my stomach. I track and move and decoy and play games and try to outsmart them. You know, you kind of play the wind. That's hunting," said Kerry. (Craig Gilbert, "Bringing candidate to life," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 7/5/04)
=====================
HOWEVER, the Truth about John Kerrys Record for Hunters
John Kerry has the highest rating on the Humane Scorecard sponsored jointly by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the Fund for Animals. Both groups are firmly committed to ending hunting in this country.
HSUS website says sport hunting the killing of wild animals as recreation is fundamentally at odds with the values of a humane, just and caring society (emphasis added). (www.hsus.org/ace/12035; viewed 7/5/04).
Heidi Prescott, the National Director of the Fund for Animals, said in a 1995 speech that the Fund for Animals is unalterably opposed to the killing of animals for sport (emphasis added). (Speech by Heidi Prescott to the 4th Annual Governors Symposium on North Americas Hunting Heritage, August 1995)
John Kerry was endorsed by and received an A rating from the League of Conservation Voters. This environmental extremist group supports anti-hunters in Congress.
Kerry also has a 100% voting record with the anti-gun Brady Campaign.
John Kerry received an F rating from the NRA and a 0% rating from Gun Owners of America in their most recent rankings of legislators.
Kerrys campaign says he agrees with the view that there is no personal constitutional right, under the Second Amendment, to own or use a gun.
Kerry made his feelings about hunters known when he said I dont want to be the candidate of the NRA in this country.
Unlike 60% of the U.S. Congress, John Kerry is not, and has never been, a member of the Congressional Sportsmens Caucus. The Caucus describes its membership as open to Congressmen and Senators who are sportsmen or who support the concept of sustained use and wildlife management, even if they do not themselves take to the fields and waters to fish, hunt or trap.
Kerry, who has missed more than 2/3 of his Senate votes this year, came back to the Senate to help kill the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. During the debate, he voted for Senator Kennedys amendment to the bill which would have outlawed many center-fire rifle cartridges that hunters regularly use.
John Kerry cosponsored the Roadless Area Conservation Act in the Senate with other enemies of hunters like Barbara Boxer, Charles Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton. The bill, if passed, would have greatly restricted access to our National Forest system by hunters, fishermen, and other recreational users.
