Kerry has been trying to blame President Bush for this. Now, that it has come out the explosives disappeared before the onset of combat in Iraq, Kaptain Ketchup has egg on his face.

NBCNEWS: HUGE CACHE OF EXPLOSIVES VANISHED FROM SITE IN IRAQ -- AT LEAST 18 MONTHS AGO -- BEFORE TROOPS ARRIVED

The NYTIMES urgently reported on Monday how the Iraqi interim government has warned the United States and international nuclear inspectors that nearly 380 tons of powerful conventional explosives are now missing from one of Iraq's most sensitive former military installations.

Jumping on the TIMES exclusive, Dem presidential candidate John Kerry blasted the Bush administration for its failure to "guard those stockpiles."

In an election week rush:

**ABCNEWS Mentioned The Iraq Explosives Depot At Least 4 Times

**CBSNEWS Mentioned The Iraq Explosives Depot At Least 7 Times

**MSNBC Mentioned The Iraq Explosives Depot At Least 37 Times

**CNN Mentioned The Iraq Explosives Depot At Least 50 Times

But tonight, NBCNEWS reports: The 380 tons of powerful conventional explosives were already missing back in April 10, 2003 -- when U.S. troops arrived at the installation south of Baghdad!

An NBCNEWS crew embedded with troops moved in to secure the Al-Qaqaa weapons facility on April 10, 2003, one day after the liberation of Iraq. According to NBCNEWS, the HMX and RDX explosives were already missing when the American troops arrived.

The International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors last saw the explosives in January 2003 when they took an inventory and placed fresh seals on the bunkers.

It is not clear why the NYTIMES failed to report the cache had been missing for 18 months -- and was reportedly missing before troops even arrived.

Developing...

Drudge/NBC's punchline (not sure who to credit):

"It is not clear why the NYTIMES failed to report the cache had been missing for 18 months -- and was reportedly missing before troops even arrived."

Hoot. Of course, it's clear as can be to all of us, Drudge included... :)

So, do we have Kerry mole at the Pentagon who tells the AP:
ElBaradei's cover letter to the council said the HMX had been under IAEA seal and the RDX and PETN were "both subject to regular monitoring of stock levels."

"The presence of these amounts was verified by the IAEA in January 2003," he said. At the Pentagon, an official who monitors developments in Iraq said U.S.-led coalition troops had searched Al-Qaqaa in the immediate aftermath of the March 2003 invasion and confirmed that the explosives, under IAEA seal since 1991, were intact. Thereafter, the site was not secured by U.S. forces, the official said, also speaking on condition of anonymity.

NBC vs AP Or could the anonymous source be Rove's plant? Inquiring minds want to know. (and yes, I was lurking at DU based upon an upthread post, when I found this.)

Look what happened when the Blogosphere, FReepers included, took on Dan Rather. (No, that's not been adequately resolved at CBS, but it got out very quickly into the general public's consciousness that CBS lied.) The same thing can happen with this. If each one of us sent a couple emails here and there, that's a *lot* of emails.

We owe you for getting the truth out when the MSM tries to bury it. Sometimes FR gets there first, but Drudge plays an essential role in breaking these media embargoes.

Same with Rathergate. FreeRepublic started it, the bloggers took it much further, but without Drudge it's doubtful whether it would have broken into the evening news and the headlines.

We came.
We were too late.

Now we gotta expand the search.
iran and syria may be next... but right now... I am looking at south america and potentials for moving those 'materials' right here under our noses...

via our communist pals in Brazil, Venezuela, Columbia and Cuba...

they INTEND, to bring the war to us.
Anybody else NOT surprised we got there 18 mos. too late?

The NBC report does not make it clear that it is blowing a hole in the NYT story by establishing that the explosives were gone by the time our soldiers arrived. Why does NBC keep the point muddled and fail to ask how Kerry can fault Bush for this?

Loftus was insinuating that Clintoon had to make an appearance and that he will not commit to any further appearances given his weakened state. I gather he needs to walk a fine line here. His wife does not want Kerry to win in 04 and for that matter neither does the present Democratic party heads. But he must appear that he does hence the polemics on Bush's tax cuts etc.

I noticed this too. NBC had a real exclusive plus a big opportunity to blacken a rival news organizations eye, and they blew it.

Obviously their love of kerry got the better of their professional obligation to do their job. It took some sharp eyes to spot this.

Because the I.A.E.A actually inspected the explosives and allowed Saddam to keep them for "civilian construction" purposes. U.N. food for oil scandal part deaux?

And we trust them, why ? Saddam had a giant scam going in claiming weapons he didn't have and bribing nations to turn their backs, why in the world do we assume anything reported about his weapons status as true ?

'I'm way past tired of F'n blathering about restoring America's respect in the world. The last thing I care about is what the French and Germans think of this country. '

Let me get this straight.

France and Germany and Russia were selling weapons to Iraq right up to the week that we invaded.

The three countries were blocking all our attempts to invade as a coalition.

The three countries and sKerry insisted that the UN could safeguard the weapons already identified.

The weapons were already gone (to Syria) before we got there.

sKerry, France and Germany today called GWB incompetent for not safeguarding the weapons.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its time for Rove, Bush et. al. to take the gloves off and not only come out swinging against Kerry, but the NYT as well. Bush simply cannot wait for this story to be de-bunked by the MSM or even the New Media. Bush has to take Kerry to task ASAP on the campaign trail and make this incident part of his stump speech.

For example, say something to the effect that: Senator Kerry can't wait to declare American failure in Iraq. Even today, my opponent was claiming that my administration was incompetent because of the failure to prevent the dissapearance of high explosives from an Iraqi weapons site. Yet, as it turns out, the weapons stored at this site had dissapeared before our brave young men and women in arms ever invaded Iraq. It seems that Mr. Kerry and some in the media will go to any lengths to declare our efforts a failure.

Putting that aside, however, I find it incredible that Mr. Kerry is now so interested in securing weapons in Iraq that pose a danger to the United States. I could not agree more with the Senator that this was and remains a priority. Indeed, at one point the Senator agreed with me on this issuse. Sadly, just days ago Mr. Kerry indicated that he has changed his mind. According to the Senator, Iraq posed no danger to the United States. I know this has been a long campaign, but I sure do wish the Senator would make up his mind.

The fact that it is out there is all that the new media including Free Republic and Talk Radio and bloggers to take it from here. An interesting thing I noticed from the Drudge Radio thread last night. I didn't hear the show but somebody commented that Matt said he thinks the Bush team leaked the story to the NY Times. If so, it appears that Bush once again set up the MSM to trip over their own Bush hatred and go with their half-assed story. If so, this is brilliant.

I am confused! We have an NBC report that the explosives supposedly "lost by Bush" were already gone by the time we first got to Al Qaqaa. But we have an AP report from earlier in the day that a Pentagon official confirmed that "U.S.-led coalition troops had searched Al-Qaqaa in the immediate aftermath of the March 2003 invasion and confirmed that the explosives, under IAEA seal since 1991, were intact. Thereafter, the site was not secured by U.S. forces, the official said, also speaking on condition of anonymity."

Are we now SURE the weapons were gone from Al QaQaa when we got there? Or do we just have two conflicting reports?
