Wasn't there another part of that letter in which he got in a sly dig at the question about being "Aryan" that he was not descended from the Indians who originated the Indo-Aryan languages?
Yes. "I am not of Aryan extraction: that is Indo-iranian; as far as I am aware none of my ancestors spoke Hindustani, Persian, Gypsy, or any related dialects."
