Firefighter who cast ballots illegally to serve 10 days in jail (Party affiliation not mentioned)

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) A former Anderson firefighter who pleaded guilty to perjury and vote fraud has been sentenced to ten days in jail.

Fifty-eight-year-old Ronny Douglas voted in Anderson in 2000, 2002 and 2003, even though he lived several miles away in Pendleton. Authorities said he used the address of a rental property he owns in Anderson.

Most of his 18 month sentence will be served on probation.

A judge also ordered that Douglas not participate in any political activity, except for voting.

Defense attorney Bob Cowles said Douglas got caught up in a long-time practice in Madison County, voting illegally in city elections to maintain his rank and position with the department.

This also was posted on Townhall and Newsmax, but I didn't see it here. I'm sure it was an oversight to leave out the party afflition.

The Anderson Herald-Bulletin did mention the party affilition, however. Key excerpt:

Chief Deputy Prosecutor Mike Chambers said public servants are held to a higher standard and that Douglas should be cooperating with the FBI and Indiana State Police in their investigation into voter fraud in Madison County.

“The fact is the man lived in Pendleton and voted in the Anderson city election,” Chambers said. “As a good Democrat, he felt the need to vote in the city election.”

Chicago area, voter fraud, no mention of the party. Why state the obvious and insult your reader's intelligence?

You are right. If they don't mention the party, it is obvious which one it is. The dirt bags are going to destroy all freedoms.

Perjury is a felony. A 10 day sentence?

It's for the DU lurkers. Actually, Anderson is pretty far from here, it's between Muncie and Indianapolis.

He should be convicted of a felony and be fired from the job he holds paid for by the public he has shown such disrespect for.

Personally I think people who hold civil service jobs should not be permitted to vote in elections in which they have a financial interest. ie, city firefighters, cops, garbage collectors, school teachers, and such..... should not be alowed to vote for the mayor or town council.

This Indiana story is closer to home. I just posted it five minutes ago. Extended voting hours ordered for election in East Chicago (More vote fraud)

Ten days? Almost sounds worth the risk of getting caught. I assumed that such a crime would be 10 years at least.

I'm going to say something here, and some may disagree, but that's okay.

Voting is NOT an absolute RIGHT, because it is contingent on certain things, such as, you can't vote (legally) if you have been convicted of a felony and you are in prison or you are on parole. Voting is a privelege, much like driving is. If you get caught drunk driving, your privilege of driving is revoked. If you get caught committing voter fraud, your voting privileges should also be revoked.

I have always been told that voting is a privilege, and it is stated as such on the back of my voter registration card.

“The fact is the man lived in Pendleton and voted in the Anderson city election,” Chambers said. “As a good Democrat, he felt the need to vote in the city election.”

So this means ALL "good" Democrats vote multiple times. What does that say about the BAD democrats?

A Democrat. From Anderson, IN.

For those not familiar with the demographics of the Hoosier state, Anderson is, well, a hive of ignorance and stupidity.

(No offense to any Anderson FReepers intended, BTW.)

But seriously, many of the Andersonians I've met have been running on less than all cylinders. A few cards short of a full deck. Not the sharpest tools in the shed. You get the picture.

;-D

"Pendleton is a northeastern suburb of Indianapolis."

Don't confuse the issue with the facts. : )
