Well, to be fair with Chirac's deviousness, he largely engineered - or at least encouraged - the success of Le Pen. To Chirac, the results of April the 21st, 2002 must have been something as a divine surprise, as he would have had a tougher fight against Jospin.

That's a good point... I have heard that Chirac was considered deeply unattractive by a number of sectors of the French populace.

Yes, Le Pen has been extremely successful in rallying around him many fringe elements ranging from the traditional right to real neo-Nazi elements and even some Royalists. But this group cannot expand forever - some FN top men, among them Le Pen's own son-in-law, Samuel Maréchal, stated rather bluntly in various interviews that the future of the FN was not in the ballots but in the streets.

They know they don't stand a single chance of having 50,1% of the French electorate to cast votes in their favor. Their model is something between Hitler and Mussolini : rising to power either through a paramilitary coup (like Mussolini), or through a constitutional coup (like Hitler).

Given the large Muslim population in your country and those nearby, I get the feeling that if relations between the Muslim world and the West degenerate even further, we may well see something along those lines all across Europe if common people feel they must support or just give the nod to the extremists in order to survive.

We might actually have a similar problem with our "neighbor" to the south, although our situation with Mexico is technically more like the Albanians in Kosovo.

As for immigration, what baffles me the most is that the answer is not with new rules or new laws - just enforcing the current laws, whether in France or the US, would largely sanitize the situation. But no, our politicians don't want to be called anti-immigration, and they curry favors with movements which all but demand that there shouldn't be any control at all and that our democracies can absorb 6 billion more people overnight.

Attempting to "ERACISM" and suppress any form of prejudice or identity as the West has done is a recipie for disaster. Every other civilization in the world is quite nationalistic or ethnocentric. If we do not accept this reality, and we do not learn to defend ourselves, we are in for serious trouble.

Ever read America Balkanized? The author (Brett Nelson) is a little bit scary, but it's quite an excellent work that deals with the shortcomings and potential disasters of massive Third World immigration.

I think the ID and pictures of people voting should maybe be considered being verified and taken digitally to deter fraud, especially if the same face shows up voting 30 times.

~bump~

[snip] What's to stop the next foreign terrorist plotter from casting a tainted ballot in the nation he has sworn to destroy? Not much. According to the Franklin County Board of Elections, the Dispatch reports, the office simply "takes a person's word, that they're [sic.] a U.S. citizen."

In the battleground state of Wisconsin, the story is the same for those who are responsible for registering other people to vote. Not only do we regularly do nothing to verify the citizenship of people voting, but we also shrug our shoulders at the citizenship status of election workers. I recently obtained a disturbing set of investigative reports from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), outlining how the city of Racine neglects to ask deputy registrar applicants for identification or proof of citizenship. [snip]

As if they expect someone to say, "Oh no, me, I'm a MUslim terrorist who just contamined all the faucet and door handle with ricin". Don't be concerned when people start with the hallucinations and seizures.
