Is the Al Amriki Tape authentic or just a dirty trick?
The following is an excerpt from a column linked by Drudge:
Al Amriki issues several bursts of Arabic, mainly from the Koran, speaking the language well, but not as a native, say Arabic speakers who've heard the tape. And he's clearly a sophisticated news consumer - quoting sources ranging from BBC's Arabic language radio to US comedian Bill Maher.
US law enforcement agents have suggested it could be Adam Yahiye Gadahn, an Orange County native, suspected by the FBI to be working with Al Qaeda, possibly as a translator. According to Drudge: The CIA and FBI have authenticated a new al Qaeda videotape which warns of retribution for Americans electing Bush and Cheney..."What took place on September 11 was but the opening salvo of the global war on America and that our Lord willing, the magnitude and ferocity of what is coming your way will make you forget all about September 11," the man, whose face is covered by a headdress, warns in the video.
What probable effect might this revelation have on influencing voters?
What is the likelihood that the video is not produced by As-Sahab?
As to the second question:

Is it really that difficult to copy the logo from any prior video and then layer it over this one? I’m not impressed by the time it would take to “produce” this video, and as for “signature”, forgery of this type is not all that difficult.
As for the first question, if the tape is authentic and not just a dirty trick, would security moms be more likely then not to vote against Bush to ward off an attack? Or does the threat of even greater terrorist attacks draw security moms closer to the Presidents side for protection?
Looks like something an amateur Michael Moore would produce, but a jihadi video with a white guy in glasses talking in an American accent doesn't pass the sniff test to me. Sounds more like a left-wing fear tactic geared to influence the election.
I'm a security mom. I'll answer that....I wouldnt trust Kerry to protect my miniature schnauzers much less my children! (but I was voting for Bush anyway)

It smells like a dirty trick to me. How hard would it be for the dems to get some guy with a middle eastern accent to shoot a rant and have it released as a threat through the 'proper' channels. It's not hard at all. In fact, it's a piece of cake. The graphic overlay is a snap, as is coming up with the correct file format for that part of the world, shot on a camera known to be used in that area (so the resolution looks believable) and/or dubbed to an appropriate release format. This is a no brainer. After Forrest Gump, question everything. And I mean everything.
I think the tape is probably legit (at least in the sense that it's not made in the US) and for that reason Kerry is really scared because it might seal Bush's re-election. ABC claims they got it from reliable source in Pakistan known to have al-qaeda and taliban connections. ABC is not as bad as CBS or the NYT, of course. (Then again, who knows if they gave the CIA an original tape (which might still have fingerprints) or a copy?). Anyway, it makes sense that these thugs would want this given directly to American media and not al-jazeera because it's obviously intended for an American audience.
That being said, it's not legit with respect to the threats which are pretty much the same blathering hyperbole as always (9/11 was nothing compared to what's coming, streets flowing with blood, etc.). It ends:

I happen to have some respect for good, honest Muslims and the pretty remarkable civilization they once had, and I think they will believe as I do that Allah, in fact, will not be willing. Instead, the magnitude and ferocity of what's coming is what is in store for them.
I think that the terrorists should bear in mind that they cannot fully assess what the mood of the American people is by watching our media. All that provides is the elite's view. There is indeed a Silent Majority in the United States that will show up on Nov. 2.
That is what has the Left -- on both sides of the Atlantic -- behaving so hysterically.

I heard Novak predicting a Democrat victory on the radio today. That almost clinches a Republican win, I think. I believe this man's political prognostications are less than stellar in their accuracy. Another thing, the DUmmiecrats have consistently underestimated this president. According to the odds, no one elected to the presidency by the electoral college who did not win the popular vote has ever won re-election, except for GW. Also, the '02 election should have shown substantial Demo pickups in the House and Senate, and that did not happen. I also feel the Republicans are beginning to pull out of their funk as they ponder the possibility of Democrats controlling the Congress and the inevitable Stalinist purges they will try to initiate. Putting Democrats in charge of nat'l defense would be like putting child molesters in charge of day care.
