Demo-nization Of Bush Recalls 1984 Election
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | October 25, 2004 | Jennifer Nelson, Special to SF Gate

The constant whining about how divided the country is and how divisive the political campaigns are this year is getting tiresome.

To listen to the Democrats, you would think that George W. Bush is the first Republican candidate they've ever disliked and that this is the first time this nation has faced a close election.

Does anyone remember 1984? Do you recall how much the Democrats hated Ronald Reagan?

...Robert Scheer, a contributing editor to the Los Angeles Times, admits to liking Reagan personally when he covered him before and during Reagan's governorship of California. However, at the time of Reagan's death, Scheer wrote in a column on his legacy, "Yet, looking back at his record, I am appalled that I warmed to the man as much as I did."

According to Scheer, "It also became increasingly clear that although the man wasn't unintelligent, his ability to mingle truth with fantasy was frightening. Reagan allowed AIDS to spread for the same reason he pointedly savaged programs to help the poor: He was genuinely convinced that government programs exacerbated problems -- unless they catered to the needs of the businessmen he had come to revere."

It infuriated the Left that Reagan was an unabashed champion of a strong American military, limited government and a free economy. Such comments as, "Here's my strategy on the Cold War: we win, they lose," and, "Government is like a baby: an alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other" greatly annoyed his critics.

Notice how they never mention how divided the country was under Clinton , who never got a majority vote, who was reviled so much by good people it led to , among other things (like impeachment) to the birth of this very site?

What a great article! Let's hope the outcome is the same for Bush as it was for Reagan.

The libs continue to overlook a major factor favoring both Presidents Reagan and Bush: they're personally very likable.

A lot of people are reluctant to vote against someone they like - particularly if it means voting for a paper facade like Kerry.

Ferrero said that if Reagan were elected it would "heighten the risk of war."

Ferrero was sounding very shrill on John Gibson's show yesterday.

"Here's my strategy on the Cold War: we win, they lose."

Sounds like a good plan we can apply to the war on terrorism.

And the close (stolen) election that Nixon did not contest.

A lot of the most vile hatred is coming from twentysomethings who are too young to remember Nixon and Reagan. Therefore, they will be doubly shocked (Or maybe I should say stuned) when Bush wins. Among the many other things they are ignorant of is the fact that there are a whole lot of people (Including many in their own age group) who do happen to like Bush.

"Reagan allowed AIDS to spread"

These gay dims are so transparent. His sexual proclivity trumped his knowledge of Reagan's greatness. Why do people let their sex life skew the most important decision a citizen can make?

There is something really wrong with the vilificating left. They just don't seem to have the slightest idea of what this country is about.

A Republican House, a Republican Senate, and a Republican Prsident. Where is the division???

Your country is united for Repubicans, and this whole division stance is a myth. The also undived 90% liberal press, pretends there is division and of course they blame it on Republicans.

It's all very laughable, and on Tuesday, this make believe division will once again be blown out of the water by the more than conservative electorate. As for the press, they'll just blame it all on Osama and say the people are just too plain scared to vote for DemocRATS. Watch and see.

I agree. They'll say Bush/Cheney got what they wanted, the fear vote. I see my Bush vote as a vote for the future.

The 1984 election is when I cancelled my subscriptions to NewsWeak and Slime.

Also, I stopped watching the evening Not News on ABC, NBC and CBS and their crappy morning shows.

I wanted to cancel our subscription to the San Francisco GayRhonicle, and my wife talked me into keep the Sunday delivery. (That went in 1992!).

The 1980's and early 1990's were lean and grim time periods for conservatives re getting the real news.
