Today Show OBL Effect: The Missing Explosives that Didn't Bark
The Today Show - Weekend Edition | governsleast governsbest

Posted on 10/30/2004 5:31:48 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

A quick report on this Saturday morning's edition of The Today Show. I'll get into some details below, but here's all people really need to know. Time spent in crucial first half-hour discussing OBL tape: virtually all. Tim e spent discussing missing explosives: virtually none.

Joe Lockhart came on and tried to spin things as best he could, but you could see his heart wasn't in it. He knows that as long as the topic is OBL and the war on terror, his man is losing.

Mary Matalin was the first guest, and she emphasized the great strides W has made in the war against terror and OBL's networks.

When Campbell Brown then interviewed Joe Lockhart, she invited him to describe how the tape release could help Kerry. With a straight face, Lockhart claimed "I don't think we look at it in political terms. OBL doesn't have a vote here." Translation: we sure hope that this won't hurt us too badly in political terms.

Lockhart went on to assert that "there are two different philosophies - Pres. made his choice to divert attention from OBL and into Iraq - Kerry opposed that." Right. Opposed it by authorizing W to go to war against Iraq.

Ol' Joe managed to get in a last, dying shot on the explosives: "They [the terrorists] probably have 100s of tons of explosives because they weren't guarded."

Again, it really wasn't so much who said what. It's the fact that the OBL tape dominated the coverage that is important.

It is, in political terms, both offense and defense for W. Offense in that it puts the spotlight on terrorism, where W holds a huge lead over Kerry in the minds of the American people. Defense in that it knocks the missing weapons off the front pages.

A good morning for W on Today. It must have infuriated the powers-that-be at NBC. But what choice did they really have?

This is a great description of his appearance on Fox as well. He seemed positively listless about the whole thing. The internal polls must be gosh awful. Hehehehe.

Thanks for the thread!

Ol' Joe managed to get in a last, dying shot on the explosives: "They [the terrorists] probably have 100s of tons of explosives because they weren't guarded."

Note to Lockjaw: Since your guy OPPOSES going into Iraq, then the terrorists would have had access to ALL of it, wouldn't they, bonehead?!

Interesting that Alzhari probably goaded Osama into showing his face when the former claimed a recently that he was really in charge now. That plus Osama misreading the US population's reaction to the vid has probably ensured these guys will continue to be hunted down like the rats they are.Kerry's election was their only hope to creat Isalamic rule Malmo (the city in Sweden where Swedish police can no longer go) regions in every Western country.

I can see that the Kerry champaign is conceding the fact that it was NOT 380 TONS , but, 100 TONS now !!!!
Did everyone see that ? Lockheart is conceding now ( THE KERRY CHAMPAIN ) is admitting now, IN HIS OWN WORDS !! it was 100 TONS.
We need to make it a point now, that THEY ARE ADMITTING THAT IT WAS NOT 380 TONS, but, now, they are ADMITTING IT WAS 100 TONS.
So what is it Kerry ? DEMS ? MSMS ? LIBS ? ANTI WAR CROWDS ?
Were there NO WMDs ? or WAS THERE WMDs ? WAS IT 380 TONS ? or was it 100 TONS ? you can't have it both ways.

Well, at least the com-symps at NPR are still giving it the old college try.

Practically nothing on the OBL tape and still talking nytrogate and Halliburton.

Too bad for Kerry nobody listens to NPR.

More accurately, they have the explosives because Bill Clinton failed to stand up to the UN and Kerry's allies and allowed them to stockpile gazillions of tons of weapons in Iraq. Failure to act by a weak, indecisive President is the root of the problem.

Yep. The new OBL tape has put WoT and National Security as the up-front issue going into Tuesday.

[I still think the dems/Kerry/libs/MSM have one more bucket of mud to sling -- either tomorrow or Monday. Just expect anything---they don't even care how big the lie might be; just so it might swing a few votes. Expect anything, but expect another bucket of mud.]

Rather evident, the distain for the intelligence of many voters the Dimocrats have, but then looking at how successful they have been with the geriatric crowd on SS, and how they have been equally successful keeping the majority of blacks down on the plantations, listening to the Jacksons and Sharptons it's fairly obvious many can't read and comprehend. ;)

Yes. That 380 tons or 100 tons, whatever, was only a drop in the bucket. A FoxNews analyst earlier in the week said Saddam had around 1 million tons of such armaments.

Out of 1,000,000 tons, some 380 or 100 or maybe just 3 tons are missing. Dangerous and deadly, for sure, but relatively insignificant in the overall quantity.

One group of armaments were being destroyed shortly after the fall of Saddam's realm. The military said they were destroying 24/7, and even at that rate, it would take YEARS because the armaments were so unbelievably massive in quantity.

Lockhart was on F&F as well, and I heard none of the rhetoric we heard yesterday from the 'rats--the "Bush lost Bin Laden in Tora Bora" kind of stuff I was hearing yesterday from Kerry and his minions. Focus groups must have been as repulsed by it as we were.

It looks lilke Kerry lucked out BIG TIME.

When the totally phoney-baloney 'missing weapons' story came out,,,,Kerry made some political gains for a few days. Then as the story was being analyzed and being shown to be TOTALLY BOGUS--the Bin Laden video comes out--just as the Kerry campaign has decided that they have gotten as much mileage out of the BOGUS story as they could anyway.

The video has taken the phoney 'missing weapons' story off the front page--BEFORE it started back-firing on Kerry. It looks like he lucked out BIG TIME!

It's now 'yesterday's news'!!! Just look at how much the discussion on this topic has dried up on FreeRepublic. After the Pentagon briefing today,,,,the phoney-baloney weapons story (and Kerry's UNCONSCIONABLE and SHAMELSS use of the bogus story) should be getting huge coverage--and it's not--it's getting 'passing mention' now.

It's long forgotten that cynics on the Democratic Party side had concocted a cover story in case President Bush had gotten Bin Laden before the election. They'd have said it was his October Surprise and that our army or our CIA/FBI had had him all along. They’ve said President Bush had him stashed away for a campaign stunt. Now that Bin Laden is back the Democrat cynics want to have it both ways. Now, they want to say Bush has failed to catch him, and the president didn’t even have him stashed away to use as a campaign stunt. Bin Laden showed up spouting Michael Moore's rhetoric adding his endorsement of him for the Oscars, (Michael Moore the honored guest at the Democratic National Convention, is another example of how serious the Democrats are) and the Democrats would have us believe they're not frivolous on the matter of capturing Bin Laden and the War on Terror in general. They’re not playing politics with the war on terror. Before we got Saddam, Democrats taunted the president with “Where’s Saddam? You haven’t gotten him yet?” Then when we got Saddam, they changed the taunt to “You haven’t gotten Bin Laden. You let him flee from Tora Bora.” Can anyone imagine the Republican opposition in WW II taunting Roosevelt with “Where’s Tojo? You haven’t gotten Tojo yet.” Or how about the rant of “Where’s Hitler? You haven’t gotten Hitler yet.” And who today in his right mind listening to Senator Kerry’s contradictory and constantly changing remarks on the war on terror and the war in Iraq can believe he has got the gravitas to be president? We cannot lose this election to silly Democrats without rewarding them for being silly and in effect encourage our enemies.

Out of 1,000,000 tons, some 380 or 100 or maybe just 3 tons are missing. Dangerous and deadly, for sure, but relatively insignificant in the overall quantity.

That is not the real point. The real point is being ignored. The 'missing' tonnage, whatever figure it was, was the MOST DEADLY, the MOST ILLEGAL(per UN resolutions), the MOST DAMNING to France,Germany,Russia, and the UN, and to Kerry, who knows all too well exactly what transpired.

As he assures us, he is the most knowledgeable person on world affairs, seeing he has the ear of every enemy and despotic ruler around the world.

We have pictures of the munitions dumps, while the Russians were moving the stuff out in CONVOYS. We have testimony from the military that they saw them moving the stuff. It was headlines back in 2003! There was a list of what they were moving given in the news. We have the confession of a Russian TOP INSIDER on the exact plan, and who and when they executed it.

We have pictures of where they took the WMD's to.

And yet, the media continues to discuss the 'missing' explosives.

Blaming Putin is just another diversion. This plan was more a part of the organized crime branch of his government, something in place long before he took office, and one needs to put themself in his place to judge the decision (if he was even offered that choice, which we don't know).

Coalition forces are gonna bomb the crap out of IRAQ. You (russia) have TONS of WMD'S and related manufacturing, biological, chemical, nuclear related equipment you swapped for oil.

If the bunkers you put them in get hit, the damage will spread to your country, maybe eliminate it, or the world.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

To strengthen the point that weight doesn't matter,

Enough Biological weaponry to destroy the human population around the world, could be carried in two suitcases.

You can be sure, the Russian commander of this operation made sure these were removed and safely hidden.
